Like most Blades fans , I am more than happy and not a little surprised by our excellent start to the season and for a number of reasons .

These include the style of play , the standard of recruitment and the general feeling of commitment and togetherness which I never expected to see at this early stage , especially from a group of of players so recently brought in and / or were subjected to the soul destroying experiences of last season .

Another major factor is that of looking at the subs bench , many of which are homegrown , and not having to think “ Christ , I hope we don’t have to bring any of them on “ . In this respect , I give you the likes of Max Lowe , Larouci and Slimane not to mention certain others .

By contrast , today when both Gilchrist and Rak Saki both highly rated by their PL fans were visibly fading , we were able to introduce Seriki and Brooks who with no disrespect to their predecessors contributions , brought about an immediate improvement and others such as Shackleton and Marsh would have almost certainly made positive contributions had they been called upon to do so.

At the moment I’m happy with the results and the fact that we have a number of academy players in and around the first team.

I’m not overly impressed with the style of play, although we’ve changed formation since Hecky were still playing a fairly slow brand of football and are reliant on a star player.

If it keeps getting results though I’m not that bothered.

Wilder gets the best out of the players.

We saw Fleck / Norwood / Basham play well in the premier league and look like premier league players. When in reality they weren’t at the level. Wilder gets the best out of the players by designing simple tactics to get the best out of the players.

Peck / Femi / Arblaster / Brooks 12 months ago were all deemed nowhere near our first team. We had Hecky whose job was a youth manager and he couldn’t or didn’t have the faith in the young lads. 12 months on it’s a different story and one we hope we continue.

I’m sure that the 4 you mentioned were all on Hecky’s radar but the situation is slightly different. For a start, a year is a long time for those 4 with regards to their physical and tactical development. We were in the Premier League then which makes the step even bigger. Arblaster was loaned out to gain him the experience to be able to step up. Brooks played a few Premier League games and probably wasn’t ready. Peck was on the fringes but fell off the radar for 3 months and didn’t Femi go on a loan to a lower level and hardly got a game.
It could be that Wilder is just benefiting from being here at the right time
