The sliding Besic

Strangest one was when he moved out of the way of an opposition player, he was in step in range, and circled around the back of him so he could slide in.

Odd.
Perhaps he can only tackle when he is sliding in!

Never seen a player slide into tackles so often. A strange performance, I think he would be a high risk of a red card in the Premier League sliding into challenges like that.
this narrative really needs to end

he never got red card for everton or national team (except bad behaviour)... he gets yellow, he chills out

i told you he loves chasing people around and tackle them, didnt i

He didn't even get a yellow tonight, bloke behind me kept ripping into him to the point where you just want him to shut his gob.

Watched him all night, thought his positional play was very good, constantly busy protecting the back 4.

He had a solid ok if underwhelming game
BUT remember that the position of playing holding midfielder is a often underwhelming, often underrated position.
As Adkins would say they do a lot of work that no one else noticed.

didnt watch the game, so cant comment on his performance, but this type of game is not really where you can impress... reading your comments, it looks like sheffield utd didnt play well, they were hardly motivated and its usually like that in cup games, especially in this lesser cup

premiership games is where i, as well as you, need to see him to give some judgement

however, was he fit, he said in his press conference that he came fit, so id like to know if hes good to go in premiership games

I was not that impressed - see my report. Constantly going to floor - he did make a few decent tackles but often he had to tackle after overunning the ball. Technically thought he was poor. Heard a few praising him and Morrison. We had no control of the game at all - they were 2/3rd of our midfield (Norwood was another - granted Freeman came on and Osborn played further forward) but when we created next to nothing - did not keep the ball or go with runners, let alone win much of the loose stuff (save a few Besic slides that were silly) then not sure how they can be praised too much.

If he tackles like that in the Prem he will get a lot of cards.

He breaks up opposition play, it’s his job

In the Prem clever defenders stay on their feet as long as possible. Sliding tackles are usually required when someone has made an error of judgment beforehand.

Kante is a perfect example of this. Also a DM but hardly ever goes to ground.

Looking forward to seeing him against top opposition. An aggressive defensive midfielder who protects the back four is hardly conducive to a league cup 2nd round home tie against a side the division below.

We’re going to need to get stuck in and upset a few at some point this year, maybe even Saturday.

To “get stuck in” in a league full of snowflakes in suicidal from our point of view. The Prem is trying to eliminate the art of tackling. So some loon running around doing sliding tackles all over the place is going to come to the referee’s attention very quickly indeed.

Can you imagine Maddison on the pitch at the same time as Besic

The "snowflake" Premiership referee would never take his whistle out of his mouth, Madison would hit the deck like a sack of spuds just at the air disturbance caused as his "sliding tackle" approached !! o_O;)

UTB & FTP

Lundstram needs to watch himself as well.
Be a shame for him to miss games through suspension after the hard yards he's put in to earn his chance.
Not yet a convert but got a lot of respect for the way he's uncomplainingly got on with it for 2 years.

Wilder needs to discourage that from his game as quickly as possible. You cannot go about sliding in as frequently as he seems to want to in the Premier League as we’ll be asking for trouble.

I know Wilder likes players who aren’t afraid to put a hard and fair challenge in but with the theatrics in the Premier League and the speed of thought of a lot of opposition players it needs to be discouraged in favour of staying on your feet.
