Following on from the England v NZ ODI's would Blades be happy to see us win, lose or draw if both teams have a go at winning like the cricket or is winning the be all and end all?

I think we could get to the end of October without being in the top four without grumbles if we watched exciting games.

Does anyone think we could stretch it out to Xmas?

Winning is the most important thing. Exciting attacking football and winning would be ideal.

We can't win every game but we can at least show far more positive intent than we did last season.

don't know what you are on about as per the cricket but i think if you have a go and play with a bit of style you can endure worse results for longer as the fans will put up with it .. as a manager you have to 'bank' goodwill from the fans for the hard times. i don't think NC would have lasted as long if it wasn't for his FA cup exploits last year

I keep hearing from pundits that Newcastle fans tolerate seasons of not winning anything as long as their team plays exciting football.

And I have always wondered if that's bollox and perhaps they might be happy with ugly wins and a trophy.

What I want to see next year is the Blades bossing games. Instead of Clough's nervy, timid perhaps we're not good enough approach I want to see us taking It to other teams and showing them who the big boys are in League 1.
The frustration last year came from beating the top sides and going under to the likes of Fleetwood, Crewe and Yeovil. This year I want us to say " if you're shite we'll wup you".

what i was saying is that they will tolerate it 'for longer'.. in the end though as Arsenal have found. you have to win 'something'.. Newcastle is a naughty example Hillmorton ;) those clowns would cheer a donkey if it had black and white on :D

The cricket has been fantastic but there have been times when you are watching and thinking the players have lost leave of their senses. The way Morgan, Roy and Stokes just gave up their wickets trying to hit every single ball to the boundary was just stupid when all we needed was 8 an over. We ended up at 44 for 5. If it had not been for Bairstow the result would have been an embarrassment. Bairstow, ably assisted by Billings and Rashid and all respecting good balls, played the right attacking game with some caution and still hit the run rate without flinging their bats at every ball.

Football is much the same. Attack all out for 90 minutes and you'll watch some great games but you'll lose a lot more than you win!

There's a time to get men in the opposition box and there's a time to defend your keeper. Clough's team never quite defended their keeper despite extreme caution and rarely got numbers in the opposition box; the result was boring and unsuccessful football.

Possibly a poor comparison? NZ are an absolute credit - not resorting to sledging, gamemanship etc. You could tell the way both sides embraced each other at the end that all the games so far have been played in 'the right spirit'.

However...

NZ lost. I think you'll see a very different attitude in The Ashes. Australia are born winners and don't mind getting under the skin of their opponents and fans. Related to United, if we were to play a thuggish, bully-boy team (MKD, Swindon, Barnsley etc.) all this 'After you, Claude' bollocks goes out the window. Fuck pretty, entertaining football. Just beat them.
