If we get this right.....

It’s not just replacing the defenders it’s a system that leaves us very exposed. Very Keegan
I think the system can work but the middle 3 need to be able to defend. You certainly can't play O'Hare and Hamer. It's debateable against the better teams whether you can play either of them in the midfield in that system.

Our expected goals will have been far higher than theirs. If we can tighten uo but keep the same creativity, we'll be ok
XG only really tells half the story. If an attacker has a shot and is not pressured or closed down then it's a lot easier to score. It makes difficult chances easier. I really don't like it being used as a performance indicator.

The system also needs to be adaptable. There was no plan B yesterday…

And there was no plan A either.

I've said elsewhere. The system needs tweaks and bodies, not the self destruct button.

The stats yesterday were crackers. They only touched the ball 18 times in our area. Compared to our 48 in theres. We 'won' 3-1 on xG (Yes, I know).

I need to see our transfers and 5/6 more games before jumping in 2 feet either way.
The problem is that it’s a system designed solely for being in possession. When we lost possession we lost everything because there was simply no defensive aspect at all

Criminal management at 4:1 not to change anything other than personnel. I'm really not sure how the lack of depth in defence and midfield isn't glaringly obvious. I mean, 1 brand new midfielder on the bench to potential replace one of 3 but we obviously didn't want to bring him on. 1 LWB and 1 CB. Why wasn't Curtis (who isn't good enough) on the bench, for example. Seriki was always going off and McCallum is bad and totally one-footed.

As we didn't, this team will drop to 15000 attendances, Helmy and Rosen will have to explain this to their investors why a 92point squad, is now a relegation squad in 3 months.

Agreed, I think even to set up so attacking was naïve. But hopefully he’ll learn

We were fucking amazing with the ball…and absolutely dire without it.
We were so focused on scoring the perfect goal (as we did), our positional sense went AWOL when we had to defend.

Leicester have not addressed their defensive problems, awful Westergaard etc, perhaps they'll sack Marti after one game

It's going to be absolutely amazing to watch. That first half of football (defending aside), was at times breathtaking. I get people are pissed off with the scoreline, but there are definitely positives to be taken from that. We all know we need 2 centre halves and a ball winning midfielder (I'll add a right back and right winger to that as well), but you can see what Selles is trying to do. Put Vini and Anel in that side and I think we win comfortably. Well now see how much the board wants us to win promotion, as our season now rests on them. No more £300k Bulgarian experiments, we need proper championship hardened players. We get them in (and currently it's a big 'if') and we could be in for a very good/exciting season!! UTB
About 5 players fast and big

we conceded 4 which is humiliating and being on Sky as well

that could have easily been 7 or 8

what a fkin shambles that defence was - like watching kids in the playground
They had 5 shots on target… me thinks you’re being a tad dramatic. Defence was poor but first half was one of the most exciting bits of football I’ve seen at the lane in the last few years.

Listening to Selles he knew exactly what went wrong and didn’t shy away from what it needs to fix it. He’s a risk but if he can get the players to play how he wants it could turn out very well (or it could go to shit 🤷‍♂️)

Hamer was an absolute disgrace.

Clearly doesnt want to be playing in the new system and I'll be amazed if hes still at the club at the end of August.

But putting zero effort in is unforgivable.
I agree. My conclusion is that Hamer doesn't/can't/won't play with his back to goal. While ever he insists on dropping into our back two rather than playing further forward to be an outlet for the vertical pass he might as well be on the bench.

After seeing this weekends results and performances, this league is there for the taking. Our fate lays in the next few weeks of the transfer window. The underlaying stats from yesterday prove we aren't that far away
