The return of mardy Chris

The poster who introduced this "love/hate the manager" phenomenon was talking about the man , not his style of football.

When you look back - after decades - style is just one small element in the reputation of the man.

I too was brought up on the lovely aspirational pure football of Harris with his small squad of highly talented players ,
but also enjoyed the "get it in the box" of Harry when the club was on its knees with weak-minded players , whom Harry replaced with some who had a "backbone".

Both men enjoy peerless reputations as 'Blades' because they gave so much to the club , in different circumstances , in different decades.

IMO the vast majority of proper Blades would recognise their different approaches were born of necessity and each brought rewards which have yet to be surpassed in my 67 years.

Wilder comes close , but football today is so financially different to the 70s & 90s , that comparisons are almost impossible.
However , I will never forget the run from 2016-20.
Nothing can take that away.
sorry keen but i didnt like dave bassetts style of football and it wasnt just get it in to the box type of football it was kick and run boot it up in the air and as far as you can type of football loved bassett as a person but hated his style of football we will agree to disagree on this one utb ftp ⚔️⚔️⚔️

The return of mardy Chris last night

ITS NEVER HIS FAULT

Coaching your centre backs to hoof the ball down the channel for two strikers who played like they were wearing lead boots - Not Chris’s fault

Bad line up - Not Chris’s fault

Best player on the bench -Not Chris’s fault

Dropping our best CB the past 2 games (bindon) for one who has been injured all week - Not Chris’s fault

Taking the best CM on the pitch off Soumare for your son in law who should be playing in the U21’s to build up fitness Not Chris’s fault

Then he has the cheek to chuck mcguiness under the bus when he was legged over for the goal

You played him Chris when he was half fit

I like wilder but not ham sandwhich wilder if he carries on like this we may aswell put Paul Mcsheffrey in charge

No Excuses though bar the stomach bug that he’s been blaming all week

You’ve been itching for that , fquite for past few weeks

Ooooops fat fingers on small keyboard
,if wilder won trophies and prem titles you’d still hate him he’s on to loser with your ( I know he won’t win prem , he may not get us their ) but every game he wins I think of your mug faces dropping and knarling walking out of ground with nowt to say , but then again you probably don’t go or your a pig
Tin hat on but who gives a monkeys ⚔️

As an experienced manager I'm a great believer in the mantra "public praise and private criticism"

You obviously aren't but personally I can't see how tearing anyone apart in public is going to improve their performance.

I think last night was about Wilder telling the board that he wants new players despite having said earlier in the week "everything is for the benefit of the football club" and "if we have to go with what we've got, then that's what we'll do".

I'm guessing (and it is a guess) that in the recent meetings the board have said something along the lines of "if we look like pushing on in January we'll look to support you but if we're not looking like making a serious push then we'll wait until summer and have a full review then"

As I said it's a guess, but it would make perfect sense to me and the last two games haven't looked like a team that's seriously capable of pushing on so I conclude that the thread title is pretty much on the money.
What is the benefit of pretending to the reporter that it was a great performance and he is very happy with the players? He has done loads of praising the players, even in defeat, but this one he obviously felt was different. No one thrown under a bus, and I would be surprised if any of the players was happy with their performance or surprised by his reaction.

I think people are blowing it out of all proportion, probably due to their own agendas.

What Wilder said was spot on and he's every right to say it.
I can't tell you how much I prefer that ownership of the situation to Selles talking technical nonsense in monotone, broken English.

The squad doesn't lack talent, but it does lack heart. We could really use 3/4 players from the old school (I can't believe how spoiled we were with Baldock, JOC, Egan, Basham, Fleck, Sharp, McGoldrick etc.)
Spot on

What is the benefit of slagging off the players in public?

By all means do it in private when it's deserved (which it was on Friday) but doing it in public is likely to cause more harm than good.

Also, if you don't think that McGuiness was thrown under the bus I suggest that you have another listen.

At least I heard him say yesterday that none of it was good good enough, "including me", so I guess that's a good step forward now that he's calmed down a bit.

What is the purpose of performative outrage

It turned the Boro fans agaist him , it turned large swathes agaknst him in the prem and a percentage last year

Its Boring

Let's be honest we were utterly dreadful 2nd half. With the same players that in the 1st half fluffed 3 good opportunities at least to take the lead.

We were the better team in the 1st. And I expected we would up our levels 2nd half. But I did also think Leicester would.

So I think it was fair to criticise like he did and hope to illicit some response. He's praised them recently for good performances.

Given we have seen an upturn of form as of late. Perhaps we see if this works first? Generally speaking wilder is considered a good man manager.
Best one we have

Ancient Greek philosopher and Brazilian midfielder.

Indeed but he was was a creative midfielder (and before that a forward). I don't really see the Binden comparison.

Edit: The Brazilian not the Greek. The Greek didn't write anything down and died of Hemlock poisoning. Again, not sure where our Tyler fits in.

Because if he glosses over it and says they were great he sounds like nigel adkins in front of the punters to use his parlance.

Lots of endeavour.

I have no problem with wilder not treating us, and the players, as idiots.

Much like appearing on a football forum with a different username every 6 months pretending to be someone else?

FACT.

One man’s boring is another man’s entertainment

It’s all relative Thomas they taught me that in Zurich on my UEFA B license course

No worries ,
We're barely disagreeing ,
As a person , we both loved him for his contribution to the club.
It doesn't matter too much that you hated his style and I found it crude but exciting.
In my lifetime , he's a clear 2nd after Harris , with Colin trailing in Wilder's wake.

Fallowfield on the theory of relativity, is there no end to his wisdom.
