Here we go. NC has started to develop his recipe for the future for our club.

Given a little while, he has looked at the capabilities of the squad which he inherited and has decided who he wants to keep and who he wants rid of. Sometimes pragmatism holds sway and he has to give a bit to gain a bit, but I fully understand the choices he has made, i.e. to reduce the size of the squad and release certain players. ( possibly with the exception of Taylor, but who knows what the lad was like behind the scenes?). And then to add better quality.

He has created some slack within the budget to invest in new players. Brayford, Harris, Scougall and Paynter are all needed positionally and are focused acquisitions. Surely our outgoings under Clough far outweigh our incomings and further acquisitions are possible within the budget.. We should wish McMahon well, he has done well in his time here but will probably benefit from the move.

For us fans, the first series of new signings by NC give us an idea of the capability of our new manager, in particular to attract good players. Obviously there are still certain budget restrictions, but I hope these lads can play the ball and show their skillls. If they add real quality to the squad, that's all we ask.

Fingers crossed.

Woodwardfan I agree with your sentiment, players like Brayford and Harris should be just right for us. If they do as Clough wants then we'll have two very exciting, attacking fullbacks/ wingers getting up and down the flanks. Bergen Blade has made some excellent points about this for some time and it really can add another dimension.

The other lad from Scotland seems to be one for the future.

But we need a striker, the target man to put the ball in the back of the net. So as you said, the construction has started

TC10 If there were outstanding feuds and handbags from Blades Mad, I suggest you leave them there. Many of us on here never used Blades Mad because of the childish in fighting on there. Lets not turn this site into another blades mad!

I'm new on here. Chose this forum over blades mad because a lot of the threads on there become farcical. Surprised how differing opinions can get so personal......anyhow
I agree with woodward, apart from getting in a goal scorer I think Clough has addressed the right areas of the squad shrewdly and not panic signed players. The foundations are being played in a positive way. What a breath of fresh air brayford is. The lad obviously loves playing footy and it shows a glimpse of what cloughs man management skills are

Still think we need another striker myself.

Absolutely

Whilst NC has now gone some way to give us a different dimension going forward down the flanks and hopefully strengthen the team defensively at the same time, we still lack the ability to find the back of the net from our front men

Despite NC's comment that whilst he is still looking for a striker. he doesn't feel it is essential, I beg to differ and feel its a must.

For me its simple, we just don't score enough goals and is the main reason we sit in the bottom 4 now

There is no point getting a decent striker in until the supply improves, and although I understand the need for a good striker, I think we need to keep in mind that it's not like Porter has been missing his normal open goals recently or how did he miss that moments. We did get a lot of crosses in against Bradford, however the quality was quite woeful at times. Having 2 overlapping fullbacks will help this, either by fullbacks with better quality crosses or because the overlapping fullback allows the winger more space to get better crosses in. Also note I believe Paynter has more nous than Porter to find space in the box.

In the striking department we have Paynter, Porter, Miller, Baxter, Wonderkid ( canm't spell his name) and Murphy can play up top.

I agree with Sheffielder that it's more about the supply. If we play with the same adventure as the Bradford match and get that many numbers in the box, the goals will surely come. Just a bit more care and better understanding between players is needed to capitalise on situations.

It seems to me Brayford has come because he likes NC way of playing and has great respect for him. If that is how our squad developes then we have the best potential since Warnock left. I was neither for or against Warnock but players respected him just look how players have followed him round the clubs he has been at.
If NC builds loyalty in the players then we are on to a winner.

Well WW, you've got one thing right, he OP is so lame but not a bad excuse coming from you.

My post was showing total respect for this board and it's poster, by pointing out your posting 'style' and raison d'etre.

I could not care less whether you 'flounce' from this board or not and you know the stalking issue is your over active imagination playing up again.

Have you managed to come to terms with the fact that NC had nothing to do with the appointment of Mel Brannigan yet or do you still persist in your theory that NC is now 'Mr SUFC heading up the triumvirate of power at the Lane'?- your words

As soon as that mistake was exposed, by it being pointed out that, in interview NC told all and sundry that he had no idea he (Brannigan) was being interviewed, you stopped posting- and here you are now spouting similar drivel.

As I have said before, I will challenge incorrect facts and dodgy postulations and, if you choose to stop posting so be it.

If you continue S42 users will soon get to see you for what you are.

My original response was just a heads up to all on here.

I don't think you need to tell everyone what another poster is like. Its a bit like shouting out from the audience at a Jeremy Kyle show (I have watched it do to bringing back workers on a boat from the Lincs offshore windfarm). I'm sure if a poster is all you say we can work that out for ourselves. Seconly the post wasn't that incisive but it started a discussion along the line the poster WW wanted it to. That's what its about, its a forum, therefore a discussion from people with a similar interest can progress. Lets hope without too much slagging off the posters which Bladesmad has descended into. Slasher Clapper etc.. I look forward to hearing what you have to say on the subjects TC I'm not interested in your opinion of another poster.

As regards the top post I don't think we have seen the start of NC yet. He is doing what he did at Derby first and steadying the ship. He realises he can't do wholesale changes as it would take to long to gell and could cause relegation. His long term plan will involve young players and the Academy supplemented with quality potential signings and signings that give us what we need in the present. Secondly I think he will be hands on with the academy and the development squads U18, U21. The club have stated he goes to as many as he can. Which if this works brings a culture with it which can help the club long term. That is what NC is about. At the moment its about survival he hasn't got it the way he wants it yet.

We need a striker badly. Ok we have all those players who can play up front, but none of them look like scoring on a regular basis. We need a quality goalscorer next season, it makes sense to try to get one in now. But i wouldn't just get one in to make up the numbers, it needs to be someone who is likely to be in the first team next season too, otherwise may as well stick with what we have already. Maybe move Porter on or Miller out on loan to see if he can get a run of games if we get one in.

I hope we give this manager a least three transfer windows to build a team something we haven't done since Warnocks days, this is going to require patience from the supporters though. If we stop up this season I think we then have to cool expectations for next season, I don't see us as automatic contenders until at least the 2015 / 2016 season.

Good post Woody. (don't know what went on with the 'arguing-missed that fortunately)

Anyhow, Clough has stated the players coming on have got to be better than whats here and whilst I agree, we desperately need a striker, it seems likely that we'll be getting some 'once promising youth' in.

As we all know we've not had much luck with them in the past. Let's hope Cloughy can pick a winner that can hit the ground running...we need goals!

UTB!

Clough knows what players we need. I just hope they are right players that keep is in the league.

Surely Clough as higher expectations, I don't want to see another throwaway season.
We have got to always be aiming for playoffs at least whilst we are in good financial shape and a strong following.

Cool expectations? We are in League 1 ....we should be expecting promotion from this shocking division every season we are in it. Anything less than play offs is failure.

"IF we stop up"??

Mate if we go down Clough's position would be untenable, he won't get second transfer window let alone three. Also promotion is an absolute must next season whichever division we are in, nothing less would be acceptable.
