The player management of Jebbison

This is when Hecky was questioned on it. His words are "Will's been doing well, aswell". That is not as bad as 2+2=5

Agreed its not as bad as some make out. And he explained his decision. Would I do differently?....yes I probably would have brought Will on earlier. A 3 min cameo isn't going give him a chance to use his pace. I would also have given Jebbison a run. Yes he is raw. But he does have pace and covers a lot of ground. Would it change the result probably not, though it might give a breather to those we are relying on keeping us going.

MGW puts in an effort every game but I thought he was physically tired in the first half even. If we lose him or Billy we will struggle.

Just because a player does well on loan in a different system at another team doesn't mean they will work in our system. There's something not right here and it was mentioned when he first came back that he was struggling with our training. When he got a chance previously, we saw what happened. Ignore the panicky pass, but his general game was not fitting into how we play. I suspect his lack of opportunity might be largely down to what's going on in training.

He's contracted to Sheffield United and we're suffering an injury crisis, especially up front.

Not an ideal situation for the lad but circumstances dictate.

Not much more to add really.
Exactly this. It’s only half a season and we need numbers. What if Billy gets injured or sent off?

If Jebbison doesn’t like it, he can opt not to cash his substantial pay cheque every month.

Its the exact same as what Slav did to Brewster at the start of the season

Just constantly playing sharp is not good for the long term future of the club he is 36 isn't as good as most people suggest and stops the pathway for the future players to come through

Not only is it not good for the long term squad it doesn't make sense to run sharp into the ground and play him every minute when we need players fresh

We're not concerned, right now, with the long term future of the club.
There's a short term opportunity that we can make the play-offs and get promoted. That has to be where all of our immediate focus lies.
If we take our shot and miss then sure, in the summer, let's look at our medium & long term plans. But let's at least take that shot with our best players.

I take your point. Which I fully understand. I've sometimes referred to us as an "always striving club". Each & every season, striving to stay in a division or striving to get in another. Partly, the play offs have created that for many many clubs. I think it's increasingly difficult to develop a strategy to introduce youngsters into a squad in a controlled, strategic way - because we're all always striving - and need to keep playing experienced (sometimes journeymen) players.

Later in the same interview...

Interviewer: "Big moment for him [Osula], clearly, getting his debut..."
Heckingbottom: "Yeah, we'll get him his shirt, get it signed. Big moment, debut"

We're probably both half right 🙂

It’s unbelievable how dense some of our fans are , he was brought back due to striker injuries and just incase we had anymore. When he did come on the other week he got thrown under the bus for a poor pass.He is clearly not ready ,heckingbottom is an intelligent bloke and knows them youngsters inside out.
I agree. But, the question was about player management. If the said player who was brought back to step in, should the crisis worsen, be required, does he have the minutes over the last 6 weeks to appropriately step up? Is he capable? If he’s not capable, we should have left him at Burton.

Is there a risk in such situation to this player then getting injured, as a result of lack minutes?

Is there a risk to playing 36 year old Billy Sharp for 90 minutes, twice a week and not allowing the said back up some chance to get some minutes and Sharp, a rest and a decreased probability of him being injured?

I don’t think anybody here necessarily knows the answers to these questions, but it’s worth raising. Especially at a time where our fitness and conditioning seems to have fallen off a cliff, there’s cause for query.

Maybe that's what Hecky wanted.
Yes Andy I was thinking on the same lines.
Maybe Jebbo is not showing enough in training and pushing another young lad in front of him might give him a kick up the arse and get the response Hecki is looking for.
Osula is a talent in is own right and has more natural talent than Jebbo.
Hard work has got him this far! He needs to work even harder to become a regular
learning his trade as he goes.

Since Borussia Dortmund offered* £30m for him he's just turned up for training and booted the balls down the banking every day and generally been a pain in the arse.

*This might be made up
I’ve seen that happen - fetching the balls back up and down those slippery wet banks has been the reason for all these injuries

Hecky has told Stu and Jack to tie elastic to them so they come back easily

If we were 14th and going nowhere then your argument might hold some water.

But in the current situation, there are 9 matches remaining of the regular season. It is possible to finish second or top 6. While that is the case you play the team that has best chance of winning and like it or not, that involves playing 36 year old Billy Sharp, the highest goal scorer at this level this century.

You can argue it is in the best interests long term. If you play your best team in the short term now for the next 9 matches then you have a chance to go up which in terms gives you cash to improve the Academy and the Training ground. I just wish even before building they can secure a site sooner rather than later as the procurement period seems to be taking an awful long time. I can appreciate it's not the same as heading down Aldi/Lidl/Tesco/Asda for the weekly shop but you'd like to think by season's end we have the land at least.

Let's also not forget Jebbison has barely even trained with the first team. He was playing in the U18s a year back. He wasn't even a regular in the U23s last season. Great if we can fast track him but he also needs training and his skills to be built up. Comes on today, scores the winner - YHIHF!

Last night is probably one that the Sharp critics will love as he didn't really do much at all.
Thing is we had a lot of good possession but we didn't exactly turn it into opportunities. Sharp had that decent shot wide but how many saves did the keeper have to make?

Hecky bungled the subs badly last night as everyone could see, but good clutching with the reverse psychology!
Of course he did. Our best spell in the second half was when he brought Hourihane on.

He should have bought 2 kids on early though and we'd have won 7.0. No one seems to consider that a tired Billy or MGW may still ve a significantly better football than an academy player.

The romantic notion of Academy players coming in and showing up established first teamers is a very rare occurrence.

I understand blooding them in, but you can’t rely on them consistently.

It really boils down to, they’re unknown so they’ve got to be great. In my opinion.

Remember someone on here claiming Seriki - who’d never played a game for us at this time, being better than Baldock!?

Absurdity.

And there we have it folks. It’s finally coming to bite us on the arse.

Well not using Jebbo or anyone else has meant we have probably fucked Sharp for the rest of the season.

Fortunately we won today so there isn't a thread about the outrageous treatment of Osula and how he will 100% leave in the summer.
