seriously micky adams would be ok by me

The bookies now have GS at heavy odds-on for Wales.

I hope they are wrong but they have clearly heard something.

Adams is a hoofball merchant. We've had enough of that. Wilder is a novice. Neither would even be mentioned if they were not Blades. The same goes for Pesky and Holdsworth.

It would be criminal not to at least approach Steve Coppell. His Reading team played some of the best football the Championship has ever seen. He did not spend a fortune. He plucked quality players from nowhere in Wenger-like fashion

He's retired: So did Frank Sinatra; about 50 times!

He won't come up North - Bollocks - He's from Skelmersdale!

He's a bottler - A myth - look how long he stayed at Reading and Palace!

Coppell is a couple of classes (at least) ahead of the sentimental candidates suggested above. The other sensible choice is SOD.

It'll be a temporary until after Xmas, probably Pembo (if he doesn't leave with Speed to be his assistant at Wales). Failing that, I can see Ronny Reid taking the reins until the interview processes are done.

Likely Candidates, for me, are:

Micky Adams
Tony Adams
Phil Parkinson
David Holdsworth (which would be my bet)
Chris Morgan
Chris Wilder
Craig Short
Shaun Murphy
Lucketti
Neil Shipperley

What we have to remember is, we are no longer 1 of the big boys, we are an average club, with average Players with an over inflated ambition/ego. When the fans stop saying, not good enough him and not fit to wear the shirt the other then we will have come back down to our level.

We have an awful name in football now after our crying to the authorities over this, that and the other. Bad losers and Players as well as Managers will look at this and not bother with us. We are Cheap and Nasty and nothing will change until the powers that have literally crippled this club GO!

Ok, Rant over and I apologise for it..... It is my opinion also, nothing official

Not exactly a list to inspire you with confidence. :)

I'd love for us to offer the job to Hughton, but i'm sure he'll be sniffing around a premiership club. One of them is sure to sack their manager within the next month. Wigan possibly?

If it happens that we need a new manager, and I hope don't, then I hope we advertise it or at least limit a caretaker to the rest of the season

In all honesty i don't think speed will leave, on the other hand i dont think i would mind if he did.
Shame but i just dont think he will be a good manager, i wanted Blackie to go, but was worried when Speed signed because i thought it would just be the same style as blackie.

I dont agree with Hughton, i think he just had a low premiership squad with him which was to good for championship whatever manager. I dont think they were anything special when we played him last year.

Not surprised,

Betting has been closed on the Job tonight with Speed being 3-1 against for the last 2 days.

With the WFA staying in the Hotel and rumours that the club have accepted a compensation deal of £1m and the permission he can speak to the WFA from Monday. The only thing that will prevent this is someone from the club saying to the lad, We are a better prospect (not likely as they take his funding away).

This is dire circumstances. We have dropped so far in such a short space of time, I should renew as always come March but if , as touted, Smegson is the 1 to replace him, I will NOT be renewing, nor will I attend another game while he is in charge!

Just for added measure:

BOTH Kevin McCabe and Trevor Birch have denied an approach from the Wales FA.

I'm sorry guys but the bookies don't close their books unless they get solid proof of confirmation! Someone (probably Speed himself) has told them he's going!

They closed and re-opened them a couple of times before Gary accepted the job at the lane.

The club won't be able to afford big compensation so I would have thought that,if they believe Speed is going, they will already have approached an out of work manager or a manager in the lower/non leagues. He needs to be in place quickly so he can assess the squad and plan January

Holdsworth ?- too inexperienced
Wilder?- Done a good job at Oxford
Brown ? - seems to be an ideal fit
Megson? no no no no no
Hill?- great knowledge of lower leagues,a step too big for him?
Short? - no experience

Not an obvious choice except for Brown I believe however Leicester took a gamble with Nigel Pearson and it worked so this might put Holdsworth and Short into the equation

Phil Brown and Steve Parkin please ,as should have been appointed after Blackwell.

I'd say Phil Brown would be the front runner, and he doesn't really inspire me that much. None of the other names on this thread inspire me either....and if it ends up being Megson, expect a mass revolt!!

Just the mere mention of Smegson has made an immediate response in a negative fashion. The chances are the Club have put this out for a reaction. The likelihood therefore is unlikely as if there wasn't enough uncertainty around the finances etc. Gambling on someone the crowd simply see as a PIG is probably certain Financial suicide and probably would lead to very ugly scenes at BDTBL. And they thought the Students marches were bad, they should get ready with the way they are acting.

Clegg is a political figure that can hide behind the government. The board can't, they will just have to thank their starts that I can't get into the meeting next Saturday. I sooooo wish I could just to crack the egg to the public

If it ended up being him, I'd hand my fucking season ticket back.

Honest question - Why do you rate him/them so highly? Is it 'cos Steve Parkin lives in Worksop (or somewhere closeby)?!! Is he a drinking buddy?!

Whenever I see Brown on telly he comes across as a smarmy know it all. Weren't Hull super-lucky to get where they did under him? Those comments about talking a suicide candidate down from the humber bridge made me want to puke... So he's got a lot of work to do to convince me.

What about an up and coming manager like: Andy Scott or Paul Tisdale?

I suppose we need a renowned wheeler dealer to sort this squad out...

We need someone who knows the lower leagues very well, because a)That's the only place we'll be able to buy players from and b) we'll probably be playing down there fairly shortly...:(

Agree with that Highbury. If we end up having to replace Speed, we need someone in who knows exactly what he's doing, a bit of experience....if only Sir Neil was available!

Phil Browns record is superb both as a manager and as an assistant ,Parkin has United at heart and is also an excellent manager on his own. As for being smarmy I think you will find 99.9% of people involved in football are unfortunately.

Cheers for the response Sitwell, have never met any football managers in person myself. Perhaps Brown's media facing side (KC stadium singalongs etc) could be toned down. I can see the advantages of having an experienced management duo in if GS does leave us.

I am not a Sam Ellis fan either (even though he is the antithesis of Brown - ie dour to the point of bolshy) so would like to see a fresh break there as well.

Oddly enough I find myself thinking Phil Brown wouldn't be a bad idea although I can't see him coming the Blades simply because we don't have money to spend.

I interviewed Bassett once; bloody hell that man had a power about him. Very nervous but he was a good bloke and gave me free tickets to the Wolves game. I also interviewed Ashley Cole; turns out he's a very polite bloke.
