The new signings vs old favourites .

Evans - good feet and looks tidy in possession (will prove a good signing)
Holmes - far too early to tell.
Leonard - not played enough games and has been pretty anonymous.(again too early to tell)
Wilson - After watching him elsewhere - I don't think he will be a hit here (hope to be proven wrong)

I would put Lenny ahead of Leonard at the minute though.. think he was harshly dropped imo as he had started to look the part.

Don't think Leonard has had a run in what would be his best midfield berth, defensive anchor in central mid.
 
I had a bird once who was shit in bed. I went on 2 dates with her, never shagged her but I knew she would probably be shit, so I stopped phoning her.
 
It is early days, and they do need time to bed it, which is why it's a bit odd that Wilder was throwing them all in and keeping Duffy and Sharp sat on the bench all game in the last few weeks rather than easing them in gently among the established players.
 
Like anything else, some players can do the biz at certain clubs and not other clubs. All that matters is what they do in our time for us

Well we don't appear to lose every time he plays, so probably yes.

With Fleck suspended v QPR we will probably see Duffy Evans and then Leonard doing the 'Fleck role. I'm excited by that

And the name of the player who was affordable, as good as Coutts, and available is......?
 
Whilst I don't agree entirely with the OP, I can see exactly where zablade is coming from.

Of all the new recruits, I don't see a single one who is significantly better than any of the players who gained us promotion and furthermore, if that very same team were to turn out for the next match I'd be more than happy ( albeit they can't because of injuries etc )

For my money, that eleven plus Brooks as sub is still the best line up for us and, given CW's previous track record on signings it's a bit of a surprise.

To be clear, I'm not saying the new recruits are no good but I am saying that none of them represent a significant improvement.

Ricky Holmes was easily our best player at Wolves. Evans has been terrific. The other two haven’t impressed in 3 games. That hardly merits the negative reaction you’ve posted here.

It’s impossiblt to make significant improvement on our budget. Building more squad depth is the best he can do.
 
So, our central midfield:
  • Coutts is a great all-round defensive midfielder that has few weaknesses
  • Duffy is our best player 'in the hole', competent at close quarters and delivering the final killer pass.
  • Fleck is strong in a tackle, has a decent range of passes, covers short distances quickly and is good at converting defence to attack.
  • Lundstram is a good physical presence has an absolute sniper of a long-range pass. Great for switching play and bypassing players on the pitch.
  • Evans is very accomplished on the ball which suits our passing game and is excellent at playing attacking players into space with mid-range passes 'round the corner'.
  • Holmes is fast, direct and will cause midfielders and defenders a headache. Think an older, wiser Brooks but with a bit more gamesmanship (and hair).
  • Not seen much of Leonard but I imagine he's in the mix to offer some extra coal in the engine room.
When Coutts comes back into the fray I think it will be a case of him offering a different option to the group rather than the group moulding round him.

You're forgetting the Summer signings (or maybe you're not). Stearman, Stevens and arguably Baldock have all been improvements on Wright, Lafferty and Freeman. It would be pretty hard to top the midfield three of Duffy, Fleck and Coutts simply because they were so good. But Lee Evans has certainly improved the team given he's replaced Lundstram in the line-up. Up front we've got a bit more depth, and I'm pretty pleased to have Donaldson in. I don't think that's bad at all.
