The likelihood of promotion from here

Phipps comment about Three transfer windows tells you all you need to know. Not only have they given up on this season, they have at least written off a top two challenge for next season.

The season ticket sales will be interesting cos unless they come up with some very good deals for current holders I can't see us getting anywhere near the figures of the last two years.

I've reviewed data from the previous 5 seasons to assess our chances of getting into the Play-offs from our current - 9th - position.

At a similar stage of the season this is what transpired:

2014/15......8th placed team made it into the top 6 but didn't get promoted
2013/14......7th placed team made it but didn't get promoted
2012/13......8th placed team (Yeovil) made it and won promotion
2011/12......Top 6 didn't change
2010/11......7th and 8th placed team made it and neither won promotion

Whilst statistically it looks bleak, we are a mere two points off sixth place and our league form since the Coventry game - when Adkins changed his approach - has been good (4 wins, 3 draws and one defeat). A continuation of our points return over the last 8 games would see us comfortably into the top 6.

Promotion is a long shot but Adkins has adapted and made us into a team that's hard to beat - no bad thing if we do make it to the Play-offs.

Whatever people think about the club's current governance, inquests can wait and this is surely a time to get fully behind OUR team to give them the best possible chance of promotion rather than spouting nonsense about protests.
How many teams who were in 9th (as we are) made it into the Top 6? Could be statistically impossible.

That's fucked my day up; I'm going to be spending too much time contemplating the concept of 'statistically impossible'.

Our chances of promotion? Slim

Our chances of survival in an increasingly strong 2nd division with a board unwilling to spend the considerable amount needed to buy a virtually new team?

Non-existent.

Agreed. Three transfer windows to sort out a team capable of promotion in the third tier is just about the least ambitious statement I've ever heard.

Appreciate that but we will still need significant investment on the recruitment side if it were to miraculously happen. Championship players cost a lot more than they did the last time we were there and we still have the same right fisted outlook from upstairs.

I don't think we're equipped.

If we were to get promotion this season, and I would only rate our chances as around 20%, I think money would be made available from both Mc and HRH, after all the idea of the Prince having a stake in sufc was so he could become associated with a top UK football team and raise his personal standing throughout the Arab world.

You dont have to be Einstein to figure out that we will be at least 20% down on season ticket if we dont go up.
Its for sure I'll one of the 80% who do.
Anyway its fast approaching Friday tea time beer o'clock so fuck em all!

Getting promoted would be worth somewhere between £5-10m, depending on how much our gates increase and what sponsorship we get. I think when we went down we lost £5m a year in TV money alone.
Spent wisely, there's no reason why that alone shouldn't keep us up. Add a bit of investment and we should be fine.
No guarantees of course but some of the teams in the championship aren't all that. We should be able to finish above three of them.

Strangely I think this might be our best chance.

Our record against the top teams is not a write off. We've got experience on and off the pitch.

Looks like Wigan might kick on to the autos, and we'd be in the mix with beatable teams.

But I think it'll be close, and the fans really could make a difference either way. Negativity will reduce our chances.

So the fans will either win or lose promotion according to you?

On numbers alone we should be top of the league

Our positivity against Swindon hardly helped last time around.

It's time to stop insinuating that our lowly position has anything to do with the fans and time to starting directing your ire in the direction it belongs.

Thing is BoHo, that I simply cannot remember a time when this board wasnt full of finger crossing posts about keeping in touch, being there or thereabouts, just need to strengthen during the JTW/make use of the loan window (but dont forget the 93 day rule!), are coming into form at the right time, have a nice run of fixtures coming up, the pitches will start drying out etc etc etc and whilst I don't argue with the points I'm just tired of it. I'm tired of having to finger cross and wish our way to promotion. I'm tired of the way we start with Auto as the target then conveniently drop it when we are bang average yet again. I'm tired of having to pretend that the push for 50th place is somehing good, something to be excited and happy about. I'm tired of endless promises of free beer tomorrow.

I'm tired.

And I'm sick and tired of the "want it now" brigade insisting we get promoted every season and whining like schoolgirls when we don't.

There's plenty of Jam on the table right now and it's about time you jolly well realised it instead of bringing us all down every post. Knobber.

It don't matter a jot what we think. The only people who know if we're gonna mount a push for promotion are those 11 muppets on the field.
We are merely the bemused bystanders.

It would be the shittest promotion season I can remember, and I would be worried about how we'd survive in the Championship. But I'd still party all night and into the next day if we won at Wembley

I would probably push the boat out and join you in a half of mild ;)

Post of the season

How do you know the board have thrown the towel in.Adkins and phipps explained the situation, that's not throwing the towel in!! We failed in the window, that's gone(as Adkins said). There is plenty to play for and I bet loan players will come in to assist, get real!!!

I will believe the loan players coming in when I actually see them standing in our full kit, on the pitch, with the ref just about to blow the whistle to start the match and I've then taken the precaution of asking my mate to smack me in the face to make sure I haven't dreamed it !! o_O

Sorry for being such a cynical old bastard and I hope I'm proven wrong, but our season is over early ( again ) and it all depends next season on being able to get rid of about 15 more players in the summer and recruit about 9 / 10 decent quality.

I just don't think they've got the stomach / balls / know how / scouting set-up for it to be honest ........

How would you know your mate smacking you in the face wasn't part of your dream?

I would think that it would need at least 2 really good loan players in the next couple of weeks to get even a slim chance of promotion and secure my season ticket renewal for next year. If the club realised many more would have the same view it might sharpen the club's focus. Having a poll on here that said that most people would renew no matter what happened will not have helped.

I've come back from Greece (Wolves) and Geneva (Burnley). Wouldn't flog down from Bristol to see this lot this year.

Well put that man.protest will prove nothing apart from people looking like pillocks.
The simular pillocks that would jump on the bandwagon down to Wembley in the play off final.

I'm happy to stand by my demand for promotion every single season we're in the third tier of English football, given the resources and facilities at the disposal of this Club.

Anything else is evidence of gross incompetence at the Club; either Board level, management level, or both.

Once we're in the Championship, I'm happy to settle for playing good, exciting, entertaining football and not getting relegated. :D

I don't feel the need to have the delusion that we should be in the top 3 teams in Europe like our deluded set of piggy neighbours ......
