Bye Alan wish you all the best it was nice watching you play, an all time great.

Wow, my Dad, in his mid 50s, can only remember the tail end of Hodgy's career at the Lane so for him to have still been in the game until now is incredible! I had no idea he was still coaching until that feature on The Football League Show last year.

What a marvelous servant to football, a great role model and example. Woodward, Reece, Badger, Jones, Birchenall, Bernard Shaw, Mallender, Munks, Hodgy, seems like yesterday....err...no it dunt

And Montgomery.

Has he retired yet?

When I was autograph hunting outside the old players entrance in John Street during the 1970-71 season, Hodgy was always approachable and friendly to the young fans, never refusing requests for his autographs and he often would pat their heads (mine too!)

The sort of player who can rightly be called a legend, may he have a happy retirement.

Hodgy was between the sticks when I first started watching the red & white wizards in 1970. I always remember that when he either caught the ball or made a save, his first move was to try and send Len Badger on his way up the right wing to start a counter attack.

Although he was replaced by John Hope the following season, Hodgy still went on to bigger and better things in his coaching career and it is a true measure of his talents that he has carried this on until into his seventies.

A true legend of Sheffield United, I salute you Hodgy and wish you a long and happy retirement.
