The Jess Ennis Stand - no more?

Is everybody abusing him because he is a pig fan or is there some other reason as well?
Abusing him because he deserves it. Targeting and slating Sheffield United for removing Jess' name from the stand "because she made a stand against the club wanting to resign rapist Ched Evans".
He's also now being hounded out on Facebook to the point where the Mirror have removed his name from the article. Pressure is being put on Jim and Sela from the fans to ban Sheffield Eagles from using Bramall Lane as the journalists father owns them

What about his kids? Have we found out if he has any and have we threatened them yet.

Sweet Jesus I was wrong. OFAC

Yes, I do.

I have no idea what the size of her contract with Santander is and I haven't looked it up but I would have thought it is very likely that Ennis-Hill is referred to as 'an Ambassador' for the bank or something equally suggestive that she in some way now represents them.

Ambassadors say what their government wants them to say - its called diplomatic language. I dare say brand ambassadors are required do the same.

Again and of course I am not party to their contract but such was Jessica E-H's public image and so tied into Santander's Brand was it - at the time Ched Evans was released from gaol - that I think it is naive to think that the bank didn't give her a script to read from regards her stance on the sordid affair.

Yet she is an intelligent woman, with a degree in Psychology from a Russell Group university, whatever she might have thought on the Evans matter, if she thought anything about it at all......I'm sure she knows what side her bread is buttered.

After all she has already been intelligent enough to bury her own opinions about Santander bank in order to pocket their pesetas.

I'm sure nobody here thinks that she thinks, Santander have the best mortgages, savings accounts, cashpoint distribution and friendliest staff in the business.......

........................that's why I think she said what the Santander P.R. department told her to about SUFC's recruitment crisis.

Making up shit like that...writing for the mirror......being a pig. He got what he deserved.i abused on Facebook this morning for good measure.he won't be writing about the mighty blades again anytime soon. Fellow blades.feel free to let James whaling known your thoughts on his piss poor journalism

Lets just all be pleased that someone who shouldn't have been on our stands in the first place is now removed and we are now making money out of the new company on it, everyone's happy now surely. Lets put the sorry fucking Ched episode behind us once and for all.

Oh if only. Today's press.

Yep she made a mistake. Does that mean she has to keep silent when she disagrees with something as fundamental as the club she supports signing a convicted rapist? Really? Does her opinion not count any longer because she once got starry eyed? You never done something that's a bit silly and wished you hadn't later? That's all she did.

You can argue about what she did and why she did regards Ched but her opinion is as valid as yours and mine. I'm guessing you wish he had come back to play yes?

So she wasn't aware of Tysons rape conviction and, what that meant, when she obtained his autograph ?, presumably as a starry eyed adult. Made herself look very silly in the interview on channel 4. As for supporting the club, how does she do that exactly ?, one or two appearances at home games every season ?. All these celeb supporters hardly ever seen at the Lane anyway. Anyway, new name for stand, Ched thing in the past. We move on.

Eagles shouldn't be on our million quid pitch anyway

I don't think she made a mistake at all ..... I think she saw an opportunity to raise her own profile and didn't consider the fact that it would harm the Club in the process. She is very much more "high profile" as a supporter than, say you or I and therefore she must consider the implications of her opening her mouth in the media circus !! Her conversation with the Board should have been behind closed doors at that stage. Mercenary comes to mind.

And yes ..... I would have taken him back if he was cleared of the charge on appeal.

Seriously? Now if you'd said protecting their image/reputation/assets I could agree. But an Olympic gold medallist, darling of the media and most of the country raising her profile on the back of a story about a convicted rapist? Nonsense of the highest order.

As I have said elsewhere. Those who wanted Evans back and think these people were to blame for it not happening are looking for villains in the wrong place.

I'm not looking for a villain at all ..... simply responding to the OP. I maintain that all three should have kept their opinions behind closed doors with the Board at that stage.

Can't speak for certain for any of them. But I'd wager a hefty sum that at least two of the three were coming under heavy pressure from those with a vested/finance interest to go public. And if you put me in that situation where livelihood and reputation were at stake, even as a die-hard Blade I'd go public and certainly say what JE said. Especially given how badly the club handled it.

Not sure why this thread has got so heated.

It's obvious that we should eschew the Redbrik shilling and name it after a a famous ex player.

I think "Ched Evans End" has a certain ring to it.

In which case she could have said " following discussions with my sponsors I would like to make the following clear" ........ We would than have been aware of where the pressure was coming from.
Sorry mate ..... I'm not having a go at you and I see the point you're making but I don't like my Club being pushed around by people who have nothing to do with the Club and certainly don't have the Club's best interests at heart eg. man hating harpies, people with political agendas. I'm not saying that the Club handled the situation as well as they could have, they clearly didn't, but our Club was used and that leaves a bad taste.

If they were used, it was because the club put itself into a position where those involved could use it or had to. My gripe has never been about anyone but JE, who was thrust into this by the club, used by the club (to borrow your phrase) and then gets abuse and threats from the fans when trying to protect income and reputation. No excuse or justification in my book

totally agree darth, one should,nt wash ones dirty linen in public, this could and should have been done descretly without needing to involve
the gutter press

It's off season, there's very little football news at the moment. Especially, in terms of gossip.

Indeed, but for example it was on the main front page of the Guardian website for a time (not just the football section). If no football news, none goes up there. They obviously think this is of general interest, presumably to all the people who got in a hot sweaty bother over the Ched Evans stuff.

Now all we need to do is take the statue of the Wednesday player down from the car park.

I presume this means Derek Dooley ? if so then disgraceful comment

When you or everyone who liked it has done one one thousandth of the service that man did for United or the city of Sheffield then you can criticise it.

Looking at some of the names who liked the post I am not surprised.

Some People say Dooley did a good job at United. Others say different. I don't know which is true.

What I do know is:

- Dooley played for Wednesday
- Dooley managed Wednesday
- Dooley never played for or managed United
- Dooley was a life long Wednesdayite, even after they fired him on Christmas Eve
- Dooleys family are all Wednesdayites. His grandson hasaconviction for hooliganism at a Wednesday match
- Dooleys is the only statue in the country at a football ground that is not of a player or a manager

Even if he was the greatest executive of all time - and I doubt that - there was no reason to build a statue of him at the Lane. There are 50 Blades players I'd have honoured before him.

And if people think he served both clubs and is deserving of a statue as a result, fine. Stick it in the town centre.

I'm not worried about his Wendy connection or his family. But you're right, for a paid football club executive to have a statue is bizarre.

He will have done good things for United, but ultimately it was his friendship with Kevin McCabe that sees his image cast in bronze.

I don't care about the Wednesday connections, but I think the notion that he did wonders for us is a myth.

It's now been repeated so often that must accept it as fact.

if Dooley was known for anything it was for the steadfastness and stoicism he showed having lost his leg.

That is why they told stories about him in assembly.

Personally, I'm against football ground statuary - its jump on the bandwagon ubiquity having diminished its intent, its artistic quality usually debased. They've sprouted up in every club car-park like tattoos have in Armthorpe.

But some of the comments above are downright churlish.

How many times did he pay and go through the Turnstyles to support United .............................. just wondering

Or was he being paid everyday "in service" - ya know, like a job

Some of them, Pop Alco,

It wasn't a response to your post that precedes mine immediately.

I think what you wrote there is a truthful comment on human perception and propaganda generally and I really don't particularly know what Derek Dooley did for the club either.

Erect a monument to anyone and you attract detractors.

Be it, Churchill, Slim, Whacko Jacko or Sir Tom Finney. Would the commentators who don't want the graven image of a former Wednesday player at Bramall Lane object to statues of Jesus in church because he was Jewish?

URGENT ps, I'm not accusing anyone of racism or sectarianism btw.
