The Jess Ennis Stand - no more?

My problem is that any of them could have gone to McCabe privatly and said look if you sign him the shit will hit the fan and I'll go to the papers and make a big fuss about it and make it clear why Im leaving but they didnt, they did it through the papers

A PUBLIC story, with them being PUBLICALLY linked with it. In the case of Jess Ennis, through nothing she did or asked for. In that situation, Blades or not, I'd be in press making PUBLIC statements distancing myself from them. And by the way, her statement said, 'remove my name, IF he signs.'

Frankly, you're looking in the wrong place for the villains of this fiasco, the club and those that run it got the whole sorry saga wrong from beginning to end.

Aaaaaah, it all makes sense now.

Now I know why Redbrik didn't get in touch with me (when they promised they would) when a house I enquired about was removed from the market and then subsequently went back on. Then rang me (missed call) and told me it had been removed from the market again when I rang them back.

Too busy piss-farting about with a sponsorship deal to sell houses.
I wouldn't deal with an outfit that can't spell brick

Lets just all be pleased that someone who shouldn't have been on our stands in the first place is now removed and we are now making money out of the new company on it, everyone's happy now surely. Lets put the sorry fucking Ched episode behind us once and for all.

Don't get me started on the absolute scum that incompetent vile lying duplicitous bastard parasitic filthy scum that are Estate Agents.
Thanks goodness there's an internet based company based in Sheffield that will put you on Zoopla/Rightmove etc for £70 for 3 months.
It doesn't take any expertise to show someone your car or your house.
I'm off for lie down.

Second hand car sales on the shirt.
Estate Agent on the Stands.
We just need a payday lender bank to sponsor the ground

Totally whored the club, then.

Too busy for the day to day business.

I didn't mind the stand being named after her but I think it should have been named after a former player instead.

they could have easily hid but they wanted their names in the papers for cheap publicity. They should have just done what Red Tooth did what Nikes donw with FIFA and just said we are aware of the situation and are following it closely , we will comment when and if there is something to comment on.

As it was they dragged our club through the mud unnescserily

Jess does not need cheap publicity and she did not ask the stand to be named after her
Charlie Webster she is not

1, They've every right to an opinion.
2, They've every right to air that opinion.
3, They cannot hide. The media-savvy anti-Ched campaign would have sought their support, and failing that, painted these people as rape normalisers.

All this antipathy is hopelessly misplaced.

Disagree mate .....

All three could and should have had the conversation and discussions with the board behind closed doors, given their opinion, which they certainly are entitled to and if asked by the press .... "no comment" is a useful phrase !!

They all chose to go "high profile", in the press / media, to the detriment of the Club and therefore deserve no respect or consideration, indeed many believe that all three were "cashing in" on the free publicity to raise their own profile. The Club is bigger than Webster, Holland, Ennis and Evans !!

They couldn't hide. They were focused on by the anti Ched campaign. If they had done nothing, they would have been portrayed as condoning rape. They had to make a commercial decision as to what was best for their business/reputation. And - shock horror - they may actually have felt strongly about the issue.

"No comment" is the phrase that comes to mind ...... it can be used when approached by the press / media as well as the police !!
They chose to comment, many believe to raise their own profile and take advantage of the publicity.

What you really mean is you wanted the club to sign Ched and no one should have made a negative comment on the signing of a convicted rapist out on license. Am I warm? I am sure that Jess, Charlie Webster and John Holland car sales care deeply about your mock disappointment in their standpoint based purely on it not agreeing with your own.

I'm sure poor Charlie is happy ...... she got Tyson's autograph didn't she ........

If Sky had vox-popped me outside the ground I'd not have said "no-comment". I'd have said United were being bloody stupid.

These people weren't paid employees of United so had the same right to say their bit without holding a party line.

They could have said that JD, then followed it on with i don't think they/we should sign him, nothing uneasy about that. What they didn't have to do is threaten the club publicly, they could have done this behind closed doors and come up with all sorts infront of the media before threatening the club we support.

I see what you're saying, but I didn't think what they were threatening the club with was very much. It was just a bit of additional bad PR in the context of a mountain of the stuff that was coming our way anyway if we proceeded. It was also the logical corollary of publicly opposing the signing. Once their opinion was stated, they'd have had to follow it through.

I just wish their reading of the situation had been matched in the boardroom.

Suspicious you are with the ways of the darkside.

Yep she made a mistake. Does that mean she has to keep silent when she disagrees with something as fundamental as the club she supports signing a convicted rapist? Really? Does her opinion not count any longer because she once got starry eyed? You never done something that's a bit silly and wished you hadn't later? That's all she did.

You can argue about what she did and why she did regards Ched but her opinion is as valid as yours and mine. I'm guessing you wish he had come back to play yes?

It was all one huge clusterfuck that could and should have been sorted much much sooner one way or another.

Seriously? Now if you'd said protecting their image/reputation/assets I could agree. But an Olympic gold medallist, darling of the media and most of the country raising her profile on the back of a story about a convicted rapist? Nonsense of the highest order.

As I have said elsewhere. Those who wanted Evans back and think these people were to blame for it not happening are looking for villains in the wrong place.

1: Appointing Robson
2: Not sacking Robson after the first match.
3: Not sacking Robson after the second match.
4: Not sacking Robson after ......
There could have been a few more before you even got to number one mate, like having thoughts about Robson, contemplating the fucker, drinking with the twat, sitting in the same room as the Rudolph looking shite piece, the list is fucking endless with that twat. Come to think of it, is he in that thread yet? He must be surely:rolleyes:

Not this shit again.

1. She never asked for it to be named after her. We did it and she had no real option but to smile and agree.
2. She doesn't really support a football team, but would identify with us as born nearby. He other half is a big Blade.
3. She voluntary gave her name and time to back the club and the local community. She makes nothing from being associated with us whilst we get free publicity.
4. She had every right to not wanted to be associated with a club who would employ a convicted unrepentant rapist. On a personal level, I completely agree with her stance and I'd also have been having nothing to do with the club. On a professional level, she relies on sponsorship to allow her to train and live a comfortable life, as do all pro athletes. Being associated with Chedgate could have lost her sponsors.

Anyway, can we just move on? She has, and good luck to her in Rio.

I'd give you several likes if I could. Great post.

And indeed, she might have worried it would cost her money.

Still, I'm surprised by the coverage the removal of her name is getting in the press. They obviously think any sniff of the Ched Evans story sells papers.

It's off season, there's very little football news at the moment. Especially, in terms of gossip.
