I know this has been discussed on quite a few of the more generic transfer/rumour threads but considering how key this signing will be this summer I thought it may be worth having a thread of it's own on the subject.

Forum Police/@Lynz/Foxy feel free to delete if there's too much crossover with other threads.

First off a simple poll on what everyone would prefer. Hendo for another year on loan or we finally look to get a more long term option.

If we went for Hendo on loan again IMO we need another No2. Who realistically could we get for this role that improve Moore?

If we go for a more long term, permanent solution then what are the realistic options?

Options mentioned so far if Hendo doesn't return.

Cakir
Bayindar
Etheridge
Ramsdale
Hart
Forster
Johnstone

Any others???

Alban lafont
Dragowski
Though my choice would be either dragowski (big ask being at fiorentina) or ramsdale.

Freddie Woodman would be decent. Still really young, one of the best in championship and Newcastle don’t need him.

Is Verrips not the answer to the number 2? We went through a lot of hassle to sign the lad, and he was highly rated similar to the Turkish keeper were linked with

I'm sure Moore will move on over the summer. Either way, a big upgrade on him is required as he's not even close to Prem standard (closer to L1 IMHO) and the #2 would be guaranteed at least 2 games if Henderson rejoins (which I think will happen).
I'm surprised it's been Moore rather than Verrips on the bench in recent games.
Other options to consider would be Krul and Gunn (funnily both Norwich knobheads!)

As much as it would be great to have a long term solution at GK, I genuinely don’t feel like we could find a better keeper than hendo. So I would do everything I could to get him back, even if it’s only for another year.

it’s one position we can’t afford a swing and a miss at imo.

We definitely need a permanent goalkeeper solution soon. I still can’t see Hendo being Man U number 1 anytime soon though, so I guess that option should be open for as long as we need it, especially if we get European football.

I’m yet to see anything from this Ramsdale that would make me want to spend too much money on him. Maybe looking down to the championship could be an option.

I like the look of that Sam Johnstone at West Brom but unfortunately that will be a no go should they come up to the Premier League.

I agree. It seemed a really risky signing with his contract dispute so CW must have been keen to have him but he's hardly featured at all. Surely if he was worth the hassle he would've at least started the 2 games vs Man U or is his contract dispute still ongoing?

If it isn't, and he still didn't feature, then maybe CW doesn't think he's either good enough or ready yet.

Both would be ok IMO. I can't stand Krul and I still remember Gunn's antics a couple of seasons ago but get the impression that they are the sort of twats you hate if they're on the opposition but probably love if they play for you. A bit like Hendo really.

Totally agree. I really can't see the reasoning behind loads wanting Ramsdale back if Hendo doesn't resign. I get his stats are ok and he's an ex player but having watched loads of matches this season, especially after the restart, I really don't see the appeal. He looks decent at commanding his area but his shot stopping looks ropey at best.

I think we all need to come to the realisation that if Hendo doesn't come back then we are looking at a downgrade in that department unless CW can pull another rabbit out of the hat.

Quite like Dubravka tbh. If their takeover goes through and they sign a new keeper I wouldn't be adverse to testing if he wants to move elsewhere to stay as a No1.

I think they signed Verrips as a last minute third choice, because he was relatively experienced and most importantly, available for free. It was a low risk signing, the fact that he hasn’t been able to unseat Simon Moore would suggest he’s unlikely to be a long term goalkeeping solution.

I think we need to resign Henderson on loan again next season and keep any available transfer funds to strengthen in other areas

I agree and voted accordingly but at some point we are going to have to find a decent, Prem level keeper as we aren't going to be able to keep loaning Hendo year after year.

He'll either unseat DDG and realise his dream or he'll get fed up and demand a transfer at which part we aren't part of the equation anyway.

I've no doubt that IF he was available for say £50m the board would find the transfer fee but he's already on £75k a week. The rumour is that Man U are going to offer him £100k a week to keep him sweet for another year knowing another club will pick up a chunk of that via another loan. Unless he loves it here that much that he'd take about a 50% pay cut then it's an absolute non starter.

Say DDG finds form again next season and banishes all doubt about him being Man U's No1. Hendo will quite rightly ask to leave next summer especially if he's spent the summer at the Euro's with England as No1. The fee is £50m (probably nearer £80m if he's done well at the Euro's). Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle (with the Saudi money) plus Liverpool or Man City if their keepers fancy a new challenge could all offer the fee plus £200k a week wages.

Unfortunately the window for us getting Hendo on a perm has long since sailed. The only viable option would have been to offer them £20m last summer with a buy back clause although again wages would have still been a problem.

Darlow could be a surprise addition. Gone from England u21 with Ward at Forest as a young’ un, to stagnation and free transfer at Newcastle.

A lot of good potential keepers listed here as a more permanent solution. Is Butland any good these days? It wasn’t long ago he was linked with the England role but stuck it out at Stoke, not followed him so maybe his form has dipped with their form over the years.

Thank goodness no Bladey Blade suggested a return for George Long, especially after last night's horror show.
By all accounts he's meant to be a smashing lad but how he's playing in the Champ is beyond me. I said it when he left Utd and will say it again - I've seen better keepers playing at National League North standard.

Bit of a busted flush sadly, to the point where I’d rather we signed Joe Hart than him.

Butland is an interesting one. Was being linked with top Premier League clubs 3 years ago and Stoke were asking for £20m+. Now they'd probably give him away. His fall has been even faster than Joe Hart's. Stoke fans seem to think he hasn't ever fully recovered from injury and now his confidence is shot.

I would hope that Man U, having seen Henderson play in League One, then Championship, and now Premier League, would be happy for him to play Premier League with Europa League next season.

I think Darlow has another year on his contract?

Also fits in the category of Keepers who've not played much football in 2-3 years (Ruddy/Hennessey/Ward/Button etc). Hard to judge their current ability and I'd have reservations about them as our #1.

I think Newcastle will be looking to move him on in the summer and either sign a new keeper (Takeover dependant) or promote Woodman to number 2, but he would want to go somewhere and be first choice.
