So they are all your so called "proper footballers" then apart from Done. You use the term so should we take it as that?

Despite your best Jeremy Paxman endeavours, Boo. I've already explained myself clearly. If you'd care to make your point, I might be able to address it. At the moment you're running all around it like a demented Matty...

Ah yes, the two things I have got wrong in my entire tenure as the "go to" guru on here....

As you well know, you New Year Mischief Maker, I pubicly repented on the Tufty issue. As for David, he has a glorious career ahead of him...it's just a matter of time... :)

A Proper Happy New Year to you. May Tufty nibble your Nuts in May...
You are like a cross between one of those phillibusting m.p's and Timmy mallet

It didn't against Walsall, and there'll be a couple more like that this season you can bet.

Yes, like all football teams (including the very best) we will be beaten again now and then, no doubt before the end of the season. Just as we would if we "smashed it in the box", but rather more often with the latter (non-Tuftyball) tactic, I suspect.

That would be filibustering, I believe, but an interesting comparison, provided you're interested in bizarre comparisons, of course...

I believe you're new to the forum? Good afternoon, I'm Pinchy, pleased to make your acquaintance.

Coutts ,duffy and Fleck all gave the ball away cheaply on occasions yesterday ,we are in division 3 and this will happen but they are by far the best 3 midfielders , individually and as a unit in the division ,personally I reckon they could play as a 3 in the league above. All teams at every level will struggle to break down a 10 man defence on the 18 yard line ,purely because it means there are 15-20 players battling for space in a small area ,we tried every different method ,shooting ,passing running with the ball and finally getting a cross in from the byline until we broke through. If Clarke had converted the easy early chance we would have won comfortably ,but well done the midfield and wing backs for showing patience and ingenuity unlike some fans.

Smashing it in the box resulted in our goal yesterday... a nice ricochet off their defender and Freeman was there to pounce.

Agreed about David's career. My car looks fucking loppy....

:)

It didn't mate, Couttsy, quality player that he is, made a great run forward, found some space in the way very good footballers can, got to the byline almost in the penalty area and quite deliberately played it in hard and low. As a result they had a lot less time to react. It was far from "smashing it in the box". That's not what intelligent players do.

Anyway, I'm happy with the way we are going about accumulating more points than anyone else in the league. If Tufty thinks "smashing it into the box" would effect an improvement I'm sure that's what we'll see. It sounds a little too much like hoof for my comfort, so I'm not expecting a change anytime soon.

Or, passing it into the box resulted in the goal, just as we tried numerous occasions during the match, first half especially. Thankfully the opposition had been worn down by the time we scored.

Do you think the players deliberately don't score in the first 15, or at any other given time?

No. Not sure how you got to that either.

We should start the game fast and intense. The longer the game goes at 0-0 the deeper the opposition get and the harder it is for us to break them down.

They remind me of Man City and Arsenal at the minute. On many occasions they have struggled to break down the away team before winning it in the final few minutes. Good thing is, we still win the games (with the exception of Walsall)

Whilst it might be predictable that teams turn up and park their bus, there's no harm in sitting back and see what they offer before committing oneself and ones team.

Meanwhile, the good run of form continues.

Absolutely. I'm glad this comes from you, mate, rather than me. Perhaps they'll listen now....

First minute or ninetieth and every minute in between. All are available and any goal counts equally. I'm pretty sure Tufty and the lads would much sooner score both earlier and more frequently. I'm equally sure that Tufty will have that at the forefront of his mind in the next few weeks. I'm quite certain he won't be changing radically the method of play that has brought us the best results in the league up to now.

There's some arrogant patronising fuckers on here. Why all this shit talk about part time fans every time we get a decent crowd.I don't have a season ticket but go to most games but sit in different seats. It could've been me you was talking about. I hope it is me the next game and I annoy you to fuck.
Did you spend the last two games talking shit? If so it may well have been you.

Personally I don't think it was you as they openly talked about how rubbish it was and that they thought we were supposed to be playing well. These guys have every right to spout their ignorant shit at the game just as I have my right to post what I think of it on here.

I'd guess it's the professionals judgement as to whether to smash it in or look for (another) precise pass to feet. It all depends on what they can see. Doing either all the time just takes away an option. But any suggestion that smashing it in is never the "right" option is bizarre.

yes he could have launched it from when he won the ball back but went down the line and then crossed it

I've actually sat down most of the day. Certainly have done no running.

But that panic is only in the crowd and doesn't help. Happily Tufty and the players (unlike the numpties in the crowd) don't panic. They don't (unlike the numpties) lose patience. They don't (happily) follow your advice and just "smash it in the box" (dear, oh dear). They keep playing their football. The 'oppo' tire. Gaps appear. We score. They are not happy with the 0-0 because they don't get it.

bullshit !!!

of course 1st or 90th - what we don't seem to be learning is how to break teams down who park the bus.

patience is fine, and our fitness is now very good, but something is missing. My opinion is a sniffer in the box to compliment Billy.

Many threads are now about who plays with Billy - solve that and we score sooner, stuff other teams and get comfortable scores lines.

bullshit !!!
Just looked at your previous postings and most are 'bullshit' 'total crap' or some other really helpful in depth addition to a debate ,however I did find this one.
No passion, don't want to see Coutts ever again. Different types of players but given the option sooner have Hammond on the pitch. Not great but at least as you say theres some effort.

Bullshit I would say :)

Ironically, for once, there was very little that might be thought contentious in what I wrote!...

If only it were imaginary. In fact it's an organised, determined 11 athletic professionals force field, with its sensors tuned to "dontletthefuckersintbox". Our patient, probing, passing football actually weakens the force field, pass by pass by pass. It works. It doesn't matter when it works. You get all 90+ of the available minutes.
Very logical Dr Spock

After all that "patient and meticulous build up play" it took a leap of faith from Coutts to run with the ball, to the byline and cross the fucker..........job done.

When Coutts crossed the ball they had ten men in the box to our four. The fact that he hit it hard and low gave the defenders no time to react and caused the mistake. One went to head it, got in the way of the other bloke who then scuffed his clearance and it fell to Freeman. Nowt wrong with getting it into the box as long as its a quality delivery.

Sometimes on here it does have the feel of a very snooty wine tasting club, who sneer at people who like a nice pint of frothy beer now and again.
I love BDTBL when it's full, whether it be with the overly critical or the happy clapper, the part timer or the bloke who's had a season ticket for 40 years. Bramall lane is a broad church and I relish the different opinions sat round me.

If we did just aimlessly lump it into the box every time we had the ball outside their box yesterday, the 'gerritintbox'ers would probably have been left frustrated.

Case in point - The Shrewsbury game where we were 2-1 up with a couple of minutes to go against 9 men, yet the knucklescrapers were still getting on the players back for running the clock down.

Learning here - Do not give the crowd what they demand.
