There's been continual discussion in the shoutbox about who's to blame for the mess that we've made of the start to the season. The board? Clough? The squad? Big Jimmy P?

Fact is, everyone of them is culpable.

Clough - he's brought in dross and mediocrity. His pre-season was ridiculous. His selections have been baffling. Our performances have been continually below standard.

The board - whether there's money to spend or not, it's not been spent on key areas. We've sold our best player and not replaced. Our transfer deadline attempts were as pathetic as ever.

The players - not one of them can say they've had a consistently good set of games. They're off-form and have ultimately been the ones to blame for performances such as the one today.

Quite simply, we're an embarrassment. And there are no excuses to be had. Either show our hand this coming week or start to turn off the lights because there's gonna be very few left in the ground next season to warrant them being on.

It would be nice, just for once, if this would be the springboard for a sensible debate about our shortcomings. However, I fear there is little chance of that happening.

Yep, these threads are always reactionary and don't offer any real debate sadly

Ha, really? I think it's a fairly reasoned OP where I state what I believe has gone wrong with the season thus far.

Meanwhile Swiss, your response is glib and sarcastic.

There is always room for improvement and during the last week there has been cause for concern.

Dishing Blame out without being in possession of full facts of any situation is dangerous. We can all sit here and imagine what's happening at boardroom / managerial level in the club but without someone coming out and saying "yeah, errrm sorry but we took the money and put it in McCabes personal account" then conjecture is all it remains.

I won't sit here and say that venting about poor results achieves little, often it is a release of emotions that is required. However, some of the stuff that has been written the last couple of matches non both sides of the "knocker/clapper" fence has been neigh on ridiculous.

Generally when these types of threads get posted within 30 mins of a heavy defeat you don't get reasoned debate, you get a reaction. There are three or four threads on the new posts section all just thrown on since the full time whistle.

We lose 1 in 7 and the threads of the misgivings and blame are posted. That's fine. I just can't really see myself discussing the finer points of your OP for a few days

I will invariably defend the board (and that's without full possession of facts). I believe they spent last season and have backed Nigel this season. But, if there is money available, rather than Nigel be cautious with bids, we should push the boat out and both ensure he gets his targets (or we suggest better ones to tell the truth).

Otherwise we'll be left behind yet again.

As I alluded to in the shoutbox the spine of the team is sub-standard. It could do with almost a new player for every key position.

I don't know who's fault that is. But we have recruited poorly. Higdon/Basham = big wages/little output. Oh and Andy Butler.

Well don't then. You don't have to respond to every post. Come back in a few days...

But, and not to beat the drum that many have been beating all season, it is one defeat in 7, but it's been coming and in that run we have rarely played well.

We can bury our heads in the sand and chant "one in seven, one in seven, one in seven..." but it doesn't change the fact that we should be doing much much better and there needs to be evaluation of what the root cause is.

Reminds me of the blackwell days. We're 6th, what's everyone moaning about....well

But this is the point. Whether we deserved to be there or not that was the record. were achieving that by being average.

I may come back to this thread in a few days when things calm down a little

Looking forward to Nigels reaction.

I would be kicking the bowl of oranges at the players that is for sure.

Why on earth can't you debate it rationally now? The people being critical in this thread are offering reasoned arguments as to what their concerns are and where we may improve.

Why can't you explain why or where you disagree?

people can put up with a defeat but we got fucking mullered. i'm worried it looks like a trend beginning

I know he's a young lad but I've really not been impressed with McGahey so far. He certainly shouldn't be starting automatically for a team looking for promotion, anyway.

A trend by definition has to start with a single result but in a sample size of one it cannot "look" to be a trend just like the win on Tuesday came after being two down. You can't in that instance state a case for a trend of us winning when being in that position.

ooh.. kin 'ell get me a lawyer.. :D
actually by definition a trend (v) is 'a change or development in a general direction' (you started it sorry).. trends don't have to merely consider 'results'. trends can refer to a number of parameters.. the trend i am talking about is that we are playing crap, look unbalanced and are toothless up front seeing as we didn't buy a striker
ahh but we're sixth.. that was the excuse the blackwell ites used to come out with and i got murdered on here for suggesting that we were a busted flush and it would all go tits up because we were crap
so . the overall trend is that we are shipping goals and look toothless up front.. never a good combination IME

Love reading your comment Raul, while having your Avatar in my left-field vision :)
