Am I reading to much into this???
I cant help thinking that Billy will end up being that 4th person, all the talk of youth, pushing them through, using the academy etc, and the talk of more outs than ins....?

Our top striker retires from playing ? I hope not yet.

i think theres every chance of billy ending up as one of the team

No, not a defensive coach
We need a coach to direct our forwards to be able to reccognise where the opponents goal is

Hope not, it's a tough job, having a foot in both camps, and something people struggle with, going from being one of the lads, to being seen to have an input on team selection etc

Maybe when he hangs up his boots

There’s a long way between player and first team coach. If he wants to do it once he hangs up his boots I’d imagine not for a few more years then I’d expect united to find a place for him amongst the academy staff where he can get all his badges and learn his trade. He’d be an invaluable asset with his experience and feel for the club but like all development he’ll need a proper progression pathway.

Plenty to offer on the pitch. Still 😉.

Do not be surprised if some club is still paying him a wage as a player in 3 years time.

Billy is an instinct striker - not something you can teach easily. Other clubs would pay for that without a shadow of a doubt.

He could quite easily stay local - Donny (again) or chesterfield - perhaps kick his coaching career off too as a player/coach.

He'll stay in football for me - it's in his blood.

Has become much more than that.

I don't know about anyone else but I'd hate Billy to leave us for another club. He is Mr Sheffield United.
As mentioned above let's hope he can stay fit as a fiddle for a while yet.
Look at Ibrahimovic he's 40 and still going strong. Billy just needs better service. Let's hope McCall can help coach that into players.

I don't think you can compare Zlatan with Billy, Zlatan is getting away with age because he's pure class.

Bang on...We simply can’t just let him leave, when he hangs up his boots...You simply couldn’t buy his experience and his influence on younger players.

That's a good shout. Still got a few years left in him to bang a few more goals in before he thinks about stepping into a management role.

I think Jack Lester’s fills that slot.
I can see mentoring roles for Billy, Didzy and Bash, especially as the pressure for them to play two full games a week gets to be too intense?

That leaves a gap for a full time defence coach. Who is the Scandi lad at Huddersfield? Ex Blade.

Has he ever shown any inclination to coach? Not as far as I'm aware.

Ben Osborn for me

Is billy even doing his coaching badges

Apart from running his own football schools in Sheffield you mean?

Not really the same thing though, albeit that's great. Has he done any badges? I can't recall ever seeing/hearing anyone mentioning being mentored by him. Not a criticism, but coaching is not for a lot of footballers.

I don't disagree - he certainly has concentrated on maintaining his playing career by getting very fit. Wouldn't surprise me if he's contacted the best example of this: James Milner for advice. Also, the one up top that Slav liked meant Billy had to put himself about more, and although not the best, he at least stuck to the task for the teams sake.

The hecky style of 2 up top may see Billy paired with jebbo or brewster - i am sure both could learn a lot from the master goal poacher. There's life in the "old" dog yet ;)
