He got put on the transfer list originally, so while last year he might have been injured he obviously has a brilliant attitude to turn things around and impress Wilder and all the fans.
 
He was injured almost all last season.

He was originally transfer listed when he had only been playing as a full back. CW’s revolution in moving him to wing back has revitalised his career, he’s found his perfect role.

Much the same happend with Bash, a competent if unspectacular defensive midfielder, a so so centre back in a back four, but an outstanding right sided defender in a back three with license to get forward and play.
 
Surely 'losing' his place was down to injury, so there was little he could do than accept that he'd be replaced? As was mentioned above, was injured for over half a year, so hardly likely to moan and complain. As for the 'loyalty' bit, a tad romantic but each to their own.
I'm sure the club took care of him, after all, he's a valued member of staff.

Freeman offers something a little different. He fits into Wilder's plans perfectly and gives us more attacking threat. We now have the perfect example of competition for places, so it will prove interesting to see just how hard Baldock works to give him the edge. Test of character is what I think it's called.

I agree with you.

I said last season that losing Freeman cost us nearly as much as losing Coutts.

His ability to get forward and make things happen means we are a much greater threat when he is on the field as illustrated by his 11.goals the year before last.

Same with Coutts, hasn't complained even though Wilder dropped him for the last 10 months.
 
He got 10 goals and 5 assists in league one.

We missed that contribution massively last season. I like Baldock a lot, but think he’s more of a traditional full back and doesn’t offer the same attacking threat as Freeman, although his goal against Swansea was very well taken.

Freeman has already directly contributed to 3 goals this season (in 4 games). Last season Baldock directly contributed to 2 in over 30 games. I don’t think it’s too much to say that we missed Freeman as much as Coutts last season.

Wilder transfer listed Freeman (and Coutts) and accepted he'd have to play Brayford, as he was the highest paid player. When Clough showed interest in Brayford, plan B was presumably Basham at RB.

Brayford played against Bolton A, Rochdale H and Southend H, but KF came back in on 20/8/16 for Millwall A.

Both deserve credit for making up and KF especially for being one of our most important players from that point on.
 
Extremely underrated player. His positional sense, attacking runs and technique in particular are very very good. He always looks one of our most dangerous attacking players.

As the OP says as well, his attitude seems absolutely outstanding.

I managed to convince myself last season that Baldock was the better player in that position. Wrong. When Freeman came back I realised what we'd been missing.

Freeman has that x factor. It's hard to tell just what makes him so effective. He's always in the right place at the right time and he has a great understanding with the players around him, especially Sharp. Baldock is a very good player but he'll do well to get in the team at the moment.

Just because Wilder transfer listed them doesn't mean he didn't think there was a player in each of them. I personally think Wilder was just putting his foot up their arses. I remember interviews where Wilder was saying everyone has a clean slate and if they work hard enough then they'll be involved with us.

McCabe never once considered selling him, despite presumably every top club in Europe offering him sensational MUNNEH for his services...
 
As much as I like Baldock, Freeman is much better option, but who says can’t have good back up players...starting to look like a force with healthy competition for places all over the squad
 
I remember when Freeman was put on the transfer list in 2016 and this was my post:

"I always liked Freeman. Not sure about his defending but He always looked good when attacking and I always thought he would have been better as a wide mid field player."

I like to think this was reasonably far sighted. It is well before the days of us playing wing backs but he now seems to be great going forward and is able to do the defensive stuff as well!

No idea, very odd.

Fleck didn't make the bench against Bristol after a two week break. Four sleeps later and he starts against Birmingham.

I really hope Freeman's back for Saturday.
