Had we been losing that would have been a red card. Their player would have been writhing around, holding his knee and screaming like a little girl. As it was they were losing, couldn't afford the wasted time so miracle of miracles, the lad got up relatively quickly and suffered no lasting injury. He completed the 90 minutes, no harm done.

Gilchrist had a really good game, and was guilty of no more than a mistimed tackle caused by tired legs. He cramped up straight away and was subbed because he was fucked, not to save him getting booked again. I've seen a few crying about him tackling like that in other threads, suggests to me that you've forgotten that football at this level is a contact sport. Premier League red card, Championship a yellow at worst. Really refreshing to see that, he's on loan from Chelsea but late in the game was fighting like fuck for the Blades. That'll do for me so rather than take snidy digs at the lad, be thankful that he didn't roll over like some of you fuckers would.

It was a red, I would have been fuming if someone had made that tackle on one of our players.

I hope Gilchrist apologised properly to the player he took out, and learnt something from it.

Haha, are you 9? How should he 'apologise properly'? Send him some flowers and promise that he'll never, ever, ever do it again?

But it’s not a contact sport at any level? Where can you in the Laws of the game, punch, pull, push, trip or kick someone. He received a yellow which showed it wasn’t allowed.

There was no punching, pulling or tripping and all it was was a mistimed tackle. No malice, simply a commitment to win the ball by a player with tired legs. Thankfully the referee saw that and didn't overreact. Sadly a few on here love the drama and can't wait to throw their arms in the air in horror. I honestly think they've been brainwashed by all things Premier League and don't really understand certain aspects of the game at all levels

I agree it was a foul, but definitely not the crime of the century.

I guess the lucky thing was that the referee had one look at it unlike the super slow mo freeze frame of VAR, again with decisions like that in real time they do look a lot worse than what they are, if he had a Morgan reputation it probably would have been a red but the referee played what he saw and for me yellow was correct, but there would have been certain referees where that would have been a red

Kozluk said “yeah it looks bad slowed down but you can make anything look bad in slow motion” 🤣

Anyone got a clip of it? I was at the game and sat fairly low down so couldn’t see it.
This is the problem with being at the game - you don't get a second chance to see anything. Don't think it's in any of the highlights.

From what I saw of the tackle it could easily been a red. Not so sure about the no malice. He jumped into the tackle at full belt and was late. I haven't been brainwashed either.

Same way Ainsworth should have apologised to Whitehouse, when you take challenges like that, you risk the safety (and careers) of a player.

Gilchrist went for the ball, Ainsworth was in his 'look at me I'm ten ton' period and went for the man. Fucking shameful to compare the two to be honest. You should delete the post.

So are you saying Gilchrist is like that Cunt?

Have a word

I’m saying a dangerous tackle is a dangerous tackle. Obviously Ainsworth’s was worse, as were the repercussions, but my point is that if you may a tackle that puts someone at risk, you should make the effort to apologise at full time, and hopefully not repeat the mistake.

Be honest with yourself: If a Hull player had made that tackle on say Arblaster, an apology at 90 minutes would be the absolute least you would expect.

Ainsworth played the man, no attempt whatsoever to play the ball and as Pollington said, that makes him a cunt. As to Gilchrist he mistimed a tackle, didn't harm the Hull player in any way, shape or form so no need to grovel. The yellow card was sufficient.

If one of ours got challenged like that, I hope we'd have enough character to get up, crack on and concentrate on the football, not keep a list of who needs to apologise to us after the game.

I understand your point, about the intent and the lack of ramifications in this case - and I’m sorry if the Ainsworth comparison has offended you. Ultimately though, the intent is irrelevant; it’s all about the risk.

Mistimed or malicious; the risk of serious injury is the main issue, for me. As I mentioned I would have apoplectic had a similar challenge been made on Arblaster, as I expect 99% of blades would be too.

Be a few refs marking his card after that. Hope he doesn’t repeat, seemed out of character

Sod apologising, however it was a silly, unnecessary and reckless lunge that could have easily took us down to 10 at a critical time.
I assume CW has had a word

I apologise if I do something that risks seriously hurting someone, even if it was accidental. I'm not sure someone who is hurt will be that comforted by it being an accident. I don't see intent as the point really when it comes to doing something dangerous.

I've done tackles like that one and apologised, and would appreciate one when I'm on the receiving end. Lot of people see apologising as a sign of weakness though.
