It also makes pure sense financially. Arguably from a playing perspective if we reinvested even half his transfer fee in new players.

Doesn't come across as the sort to agitate for a move iibh. Now whether that applies to his agents is another matter.

I agree with you that if he wants out then our position is slightly weakened IF he is the sort of prick that would spit his dummy out. I don't honestly see that.

FWIW I think he wants to go as doesn't want another season in The Champ, not anything to do with The Blades in general, but will be reasonable re our valuation of him and wouldn't spit the dummy out if no one meets our valuation of him.

Re his agents as well bare in mind they don't get paid either if he doesn't move on so no point rocking the boat to try and get us to accept a pathetic offer.
 
If the club is offered what United paid for him, they will accept reluctantly. I’m aware that some fans reckon he has a 35m release clause in his contract.
It could be true but I think the Prince will settle for pragmatism. Thats sad, because Berge is only just getting started.
 
Money back on Berge. Sign Wallace at the end of his contract.

I'm not saying we shouldn't sell him but I used to always think, well if we invest a chunk of that fee we may be better off overall. We never did and that's why never seem to profit from these sales.

I've supported the blades since 1964, and all I have ever seen, we always sell our best players and it does result in relegation eventually, we don't reinvest the money on quality players only 2nd rate. I've noticed a story today that the money will be reinvested with the sale of players, it won't be reinvested in players.

Yes, we get a few promotions, cup runs, but we have not won a major trophy since 1925

This city of ours should have two clubs in the top leagues, winning trophies, the support is fantastic for the way the directors treat the fans.

One minute they say they don't have to sell players, then the next minute, they will reinvest player sales into new players. There a joke club, taking the fans for a ride.

It's madness selling Berge as was selling, Mick Jones, Alan Birchenall, Tony Currie, Geoff Salmons, Brian Deane, and many more I could name. You build teams around quality players, not 2nd rate players

We had Berge, and we got relegated.
 
Hope he stays but if we get 18+ we should sell and spend at least 10-12 of that on replacing him + another position. I would say the MGW gap as well but that will be hard to cover with only 5 mill. Will have to be really smart and shop overseas in countries where generally they tend to be more technically gifted (most of europe).

You don't get relegated with quality players and I am speaking facts over 50 years of watching the blades, even when I lived in Basingstoke, travelling up and down the country, putting money into the blades revival fund for players.

The investment didn't last long, just one season, and now they want to recoup the money.

Tony Currie was sold to Leeds in 1976, and Alan Woodward was nearly at the end of his career, we also sold Geoff Salmons to Stoke, we started selling our quality players, and ended up in the 4th Division, but got promoted back to the 3rd division in 1982, with Keith Edwards and Colin Morris quality players
 
I’m all for selling as long as it was spent on improving our team BUT fuck accepting less than what we paid for him and also fuck selling him to Leeds. The thought of MGW at forest and Berge there makes me sick.

Its the Sheffield united way , it always has been , I stopped going for 6 seasons when they sold Deane and Fjørtoft on the same day , its my Son to blame for wanting to go to watch football , so i had to take him to the lane just in case his mates took him to the sty , just couldn't have that in the family 🐷🐽🤣

TC was sold after we got relegation!! Woody wasnt even 30 yet also it wasnt near the end of his career. He left us for USA mainly for personal reasons, still played pro football until 1981

Every club ends up selling players. Good players approaching their peak will always be desirable to clubs in higher divisions with bigger resources. It’s how football works. You mention Brian Deane - where did we sign him from?

Do you think Dortmund are “taking the fans for a ride” because they sold Haaland?
 
I've no problem with us selling players, providing we get good fees, it's how football works. A club like ours will always cede players to bigger clubs and as long as we aren't taken for a ride financially then so be it. I do take issue when it goes into a financial black hole with little to show for it. That's why I'll never get the clamour to sell on the promises (usually empty) to reinvest.

Berge will go - I think he's a fantastic talent on his day. I'd love us to keep him until January to give him, and us, a good chance to see how the season is going.

All clubs do sell players, but seem to have a replacement, we sell all our best players and don't replace, that's why we ended up in the fourth division, and we will again.

Yes, Brian Deane came from Doncaster Rovers, but we was in the third division, and Doncaster in the fourth division, we are supposed to have money from the premium league, but we still want to sell our best players.

Dortmund sold Harrland for a very large fee, and replaced him straight away, we don't do that, the money goes elsewhere
 
If we lose Sander and go straight in for O’Brien would soften the blow nicely
 
Like others have said we should only sell him if we get our money back AT LEAST. then we should be able to do what bournemouth did and invest most of it on some quality players for this division

We were in the relegation struggle up to Jokanovic getting the bullet

If it wasn't for Berge, Sharp and MGW being central to almost everything we had in an attacking sense we would probably have made no recovery at all last season

MGW has already gone back
Berge likely to go
And how long can Sharp keep going?
