I may have Berge tinted glasses on but now he’s fit he is our best player ....by a distance.
Just hope we get money back when goes but doubt it ...
Good luck Sander please don’t sign for someone in the Championship / bottom 6 Premier

No Berge tinted glasses on mate, you can just spot a good footballer when you see one, something I think alot of our fans struggle with.

What if Berge, turns round to Hecky and says I want to stay and will take a wage cut to play for you.

Very unlikely I know.

I'd like to think at the very least we'll sign some midfielders before he leaves, so at least we'll know who his replacement is and how much worse off we are.

If not, and we basically go in to pre-season with only Fleck and Norwood (and Osborn although it's not his best position), that could be suicidal.

Based on every cloud having a silver lining, Berge has played well enough recently and stayed fit to command a fee hopefully in the region of what we paid for him. Whereas six months ago it seemed likely we’d be making a clear loss on selling him.

I'll be worried if we sell Berge. We already lost MGW - those are two massively big holes to fill.
On top of that, I don't have any faith in Fleck, he literally offers nothing imo. Can't pass, can't shoot, can't defend - I honestly struggle to see how he gets into the team week in and week out.
I would do everything to hold on to Berge for one more year and try my best to find replacements for MGW and Jimmy.

I still don't think we've seen the best of him, not by a long way. I was critical earlier on in the season but we've seen as its gone on that he's got better as he got in tune with his team mates and carved out a role for himself that might not have existed if not for all the "strikers" being injured.

Mitigating factors for him are by and large joining midway through the prem season into a system that nobody else plays, covid and being in a foreign country largely on your own, getting a bad injury and then having to work his way back where it's only the back end of this season that we've started to see what he's capable of

A fully fit, fully integrated and slightly more aggressive Sander Berge in the Championship (is maybe wishful thinking) but could be massive for us if we can keep him for one more season and try and get us up. If a team as poor as Luton can make the play offs ahead of what's a bog average division, a fully fit Berge, Brewster, Bogle and a couple of handy additions could be all it needs to tip the balance next time round.

Aside from MGW, there's nobody leaving (yet) that we're bothered about letting go of either.

Perhaps he/we have found his true roll but we have to be realistic Berge and MGW are worth too much for us to keep.

I wouldn't be surprised if a bid came and he departed. But I wouldn't rule out him staying.

A club would still need to meet our fee whatever that is this summer to start with.

If he stays another season, forget getting any money back on him - contract will be too short

Could Raphael Holzhauser of Beerschot be an ok Berge replacement? Plays at CAM, only 2cm shorter than Berge, 4 gls and 7 assists in a relegation season. Out of contract this coming season
PurpleRain what are your thoughts?

No.

Couple of reasons.

1. He doesn't work hard enough and is a luxury player. He's not physically aggressive enough and the English game would not suit him.

2. He just signed for OHL.

After watching fairly extensively there are two players I'd consider from the sister clubs. I'll omit Coulibaly because I only saw him in short cameos coming back from injury.

Sebaoui - 10 appearances, 3 goals, but always wanted the ball. A bit Duffy like. Who, in only their second sub appearance, after only 20 minutes of pro football picks up the ball and slams away an injury time equalising penalty? He has a good temperament. @purple rain possibly disagrees if he's ready but I see elements of Gibbs-White in him too.

Secoure - 10 games, 2 goals. Centre forward for Chateauroux. Just broke through. 20, rangy, 6'4". Not looking to sign a new deal. Bags of potential, though we do have similar strikers.

It'll be interesting to see where he goes. I suspect Arsenal will come back in with a similar offer of around £15m and we will go for it.
I really do wish him well, a top lad and undoubted ability. He just needs to believe in himself far more.
No chance he's going top half prem , he ain't good enough

If Holzhauser plays like in the 20-21 season and with a pacey striker in front of him with who he can connect he would be one of the best players in the Championship. But his form and desire faded last season because he was playing in a poor side and promises to strengthen the team and challenge for a top 8 place were not met. That has affected his game mentality negatively which I can understand. Talent wise he would certainly have his place in the championship. But will not happen since he signed for another Belgian club. The shareholder is not taking the opportunities to sign players across the clubs. Tissoudali is the best example, he should always have ended up at United and not at Gent.

Berge can be as good as he wants to be. Always feel like he's got several gears to go up and playing in a better side gives him that chance. If Brewster was worth £23M after a decent half season in the Championship, Berge has to be worth £10M more than than surely?

There’s no way he’s going if we don’t get the money back we spent on him, HRH has shown that we don’t sell on the cheap or first offer that comes in, Sander has also shown his commitment to the club, so if the value isn’t met I’d expect him here for another year.

if McCabe had been chairman he’d have gone by now.

The fact Sander has stayed this year and not pushed for a transfer (unlike Ramsdale) has shown the type of character he is. We won’t sell for cheap but I wouldn’t blame him if he said he wanted to leave for a top 10 Prem side. He’d be outstanding with better players around him.

He aint good enough seems to mean he doesn't do the meat and potatoes work to some people, when your top half you don't need to do that work.
Agreed. I don’t see what part of his game isn’t at that level?

He’s already miles above players like Elneny and Winks, who are regulars in top 6 sides

If anything we have shown Berge the way to play. He has never been a CDM or playmaker. As an attacking midfielder he is unreal

We may not have exactly shown him the way to play , but our current management team have certainly got much more out him than the previous ones ever did .

The same applies to both Brewster and Bogle before their unfortunate injuries , and JLT . All coincidences ? I don’t think so .

The result of a very capable and dedicated management team doing what they are good at ?. Much more likely imo and I can’t think of another one remotely within our reach who I would rather have on board .
