We now have three things to thank Bryan Robson for.

Apparently, it was because he personally went to chat to James Beattie that saw the dodgy dressing goal machine sign for us.

Also don't forget that Robson signed Billy Sharp. It might have been solely to placate the fans, but he came back. It was our Messiah Neil Warnock who had the vision and foresight and sold him. Robson, for whatever reason, and it just might have been that Billy can score, brought him back to the Lane. Admittedly Robson hardly brought out the best in Billy, but still, at least he's here now to bang in more goals.

Robson also got Gary Speed to come to the Lane, and he's proving to be very much worth his place.
So as much as he got slated, would those three players be here if it hadn't been for Bryan Robson?

(Oh, hang on, there are four things to thank Robson for, the most important one being that he's not here any more.:D)

Him going brought out the best in the players he bought.

Billy Sharp says this.........

Hat-trick hero Billy Sharp paid tribute to boss Kevin Blackwell for keeping faith with him after the 3-0 win over QPR.
The Blades bounced back from their opening-day loss at Birmingham to register their first Championship points of the season and Sharp admits Blackwell's belief has helped him reproduce his best form.

Sharp struggled to get into the side after Bryan Robson brought him back from Scunthorpe last summer but he is loving life under Blackwell.

"The gaffer has shown so much faith and belief in me since taking over and that's been a real help," he told The Star.

"He's believed in me, played me and because he's done that it's given me the confidence to go out there and play my own game."

Sharp added: "I came to the club on a real high and, although last year didn't quite go as planned, I got myself back into the team and got a few goals towards the end.

"But this us definitely my best ever day in the Blades shirt and the best we've played since I came back."

I think we're getting ahead of ourself RE Billy Sharp.

Let's hope the goals continue though so he can prove me wrong.

I thought you were an optimist Robbie?

Only occasionally.

I am hopeful Billy comes good, and bangs them, makes me look a fool in saying that he can't cut it..... but he still has a long way to go.

When he first came, I thought he would smash them home all time, many performances later made me realise, not so much.

Robson didn't actually sign Billy Sharp. Terry Robinson sorted the deal out about a week before Robson arrived but it wasn't announced 'til we had a manager in place. Apparently so anyway :)

It wouldn't have mattered if Robson bought the entire Man U or Chelski squad fo us. He'd have still nearly got us relegated.

The only thing I will ever thank him for is when he stops breathing.

Robson is a big enough name in the football world to be able to attract the kind of players that wouldn't be interested if he wasn't the manager; i think this has been proved beyond a doubt at every club he has been at.

The problem is that he is awful at every other aspect of management apart from being able to convince good players to join his clubs.

He would have been an awesome director of football (as long as his remit was limited to selling the club to potential players) but he seems to still harbour the belief that he can be successful in the hot seat.

I doubt KB will be able to attract players of the same profile but he seems to be able to get far more out of the players then Robbo and for me that is much more important.

"The only thing I will ever thank him for is when he stops breathing."

Whatever ur feelings on the Robbo situation, saying u wish him dead is taking it way , way , way over the top. You ought to be ashamed of urself.

Your opinion would have more effect if you had used better language.

ur?? u?? urself??

If people tried it could make their point come across so much better.

:)

hes still makes a good point forgetting his grammar/spelling mate :)

Gone slightly off topic here.... Good point raised by Clarkebhoy and all Silverfox means is that his point would have more effect and more coverage if text speak wasn't used, nothing was said about the validity/quality of the point.

We always discourage the use of text speak for a number of reasons, one of these being that we have many readers who aren't fluent in "txt speak" and/or who don't have english as their first language.

Can we please get back on topic and not fill the thread with more that detracts from the actual points made? I've removed some posts I'd assume you don't mind removing as they are merely misunderstanding and nothing to do with the topic!

I think we all agree on one thing and that was Bryan Robson was a nob.

He was a brilliant player, a great servant to the England football team but absolutely useless as a football manager. His tactics were dull, lifeless and unadventurous to say the least but to say you want him to die is way, way, way over the top.

To say you want the drunken driver who mowed down half your family at a bus stop dead, fair enough, understandable reaction.

To say you want the jumped-up little prick gangsta wannabe dead who stuck a knife in your teenage son, fair enough, understandable reaction.

And what about the bloke who took your child from a playground . . . . .

But a useless twat who was wank at managing your team because he was , allegedly, cough, pissed all the time? Please.

On a side note, do look at the players Robson managed to attract. Warnock would not have attracted Beattie, Speed etc. Robson made a £4M signing. In the Premier league season transfer window the board threw money (by our standards anyway) at Warnock and look at the signings he made. He was like a kid let loose in a sweet shop with a fiver, didn't know what to spend it on next. Or couldn't attract decent players because of who he was.

Lets let it go, Robson was/is wank, will probably never manage again and we are in better shape than we were this time last season. Blackwell may not be the answer but at least we're on the up again.

We're also in a lot better shape than that shower of shit over in S6.

Up the Blades

I think Robson would be a better Scout/Figure Head for a club. I know McCabe offered him that role before he left, and i think he'd have done well at it as i believe he can spot a good player.

Unfortunately, not a manager.

............look at the players Robson managed to attract...........

The point I was trying to make. If you look back at some of my older posts you would see I never wanted Robson at this club, like this one, and this one shows I wasn't too happy once we'd got him. I was just trying to point out that he did have a small positive effect on us, even if he buggered an entire season up.

I also think, like Sotonblade, that Robson would have served us very well as a chief scout. He has a very good eye for a player, but is neither use nor ornament as a manager, and I firmly believe that he'll never manage again.

And I don't want him dead, but I'd like to see him given one last shot at management if and when Brrian Laws sees sense and quits/gets sacked.

Sorry SV, I do understand the points you were making and that my post reiterated some of those points, I just wanted to expand on it for people who the original point may have gone sailing over their head and threatened to turn this thread into some vile anti-Robson rant.

I wasn't clear enough, I knew you got the point I was trying to make, but as you say there are a few chuckleheads who would like to see the man strung up by the left nad. All he did was balls up a season, he didn't kill anybody.

PMSL at you lot. You gonna tell on me for not being nice.

Robson in a money grabbing arse-hole, he took our club knowhere. Just cos he signed a few players doesn't make me like him in any way.

Sorry if it offends but the mans a tosser and i never said I wanted him to die, but if he did I for one wouldn't be bothered in the slightest.
