Tempering the enthusiasm

Really encouraging stuff on Friday night and a refreshing change in our approach play. We have reason to be optimistic but I think it's important not to get carried away after one game. DW is trying to modernise the way we play and develop an ethos that will leave a lasting legacy so this could be a long and steep learning curve for everyone involved. The signs are promising but there will be off days as well.

What's most important is getting it right for the long term benefit of the football club. The club has been getting it wrong for a number of years now but I think they might just have found the man to bring about evolution on the pitch. If that first game is anything to go by then we should all be buying into what they're trying to do and that means being patient. There will be days when things don't click quite as well as they did in that game but as long as we have more days like that than not, we will do very well.

A good start to the season and it looks like we will be playing a passing game, I'm sure we tried the same thing two years ago with Wilson
Still I think Weir has a lot more about him than Wilson and we are at least signing players of the right sort of age rather than old journeymen on a last pay day. It remains to be seen if McCabe and his cronies can leave Weir to look after the football side of things and resist the temptation to cash in on any player that shows a bit of promise.

People getting far too carried away. I like Weir, but then i liked him before the season even started. You can tell he's got summat about him. But we played 1 game against 10 men for nearly the entire match. Plus, against a team who have just lost a lot of key players and are starting again pretty much from scratch.

As usual, it's fingers crossed time that McClown doesn't destroy all the good work in a flash by flogging the (by now really rather dowdy unpolished) silverware. I'd already trust Weir to get us promoted within 2 or 3 years. I wouldn't trust Big Kev to cash an old ladies pension giro without "investing" it on magic beans, somewhere between his house and the post office.
