Team v Bristol Rovers

Must win game, if only for confidence reasons. I'd normally bench a bunch of players but certain key elements need something, so I'd probably stick similar to the Palace game except rest Stevens and McGoldrick, start Lowe and Brewdog

There is no point resting anyone. Arguably a win would do more good than a rest. The line up should be the majority of the first team, with a win at all costs attitude.

Stick with Ramsdale, he needs a clean sheet (not guaranteed but he'll never get that boost sat on the bench).

Playing Bogle and Lowe shouldn't harm our chances. He'll likely rest Egan and Bash but playing anything other than these 2 out of the 3 would be a risk.

Brewster has to play but needs service. Que Norwood and Fleck, tell them it has all been a very bad dream, and to do what they used to do.

Sharp can get some game time in this one.

As always, I'd like to see Burke at some stage, he makes things happen with his pace, and should be too much for L1 defenders.

Verrips
Rodwell - Jagielka - Robinson
Bogle - Norwood - Fleck - Lowe
Brewster - Hackford- Burke

Up for t’cup?......The first time I’ve really looked forward to a 3rd cup tie in ages. Think it was probably when we used start in the 1st round, that being still in the hat for early January was such a thrill.

Not fair to taint Bogle, Verrips and Hackford with the rest of the shower. Prefer Ramsdale, Lundstram and McBurnie to suffer the ignominy.

In any normal circumstance, you'd play a weakened side. This is not a normal circumstance.

We need our best XI out there and to treat this no different from a league game.

Let's go out and try and hammer them and hopefully it might build a bit of confidence. It's desperately needed.

We can use 5 subs. Pick a squad that is a mixture of youth and experience. The experienced players that will be required on Tuesday don't need to play the full match.

This has got ‘cup upset’ written all over it so I’m not really fussed who he plays

Options are limited. Chalk Mousset off. He'll probably be kept out of the limelight. I'll assume we don't risk Robinson or McBurnie. I'll assume Rodwell is still MIA and not sure where Jags fits as I'm benching Ampadu and starting Egan.

Pick whatever team we largely foresee playing against Newcastle. Getting a win would breed confidence and allow them to go again on the back of a win vs the Barcodes.

Some pace and mobility up front. Sharp back from covid and perhaps unlucky to miss out. I think he'd be ok in front of McGoldrick's vision and with some unsettling pace alongside him. Limited options in midfield so allow them to redeem themselves and play 3-4-1-2. Possible to go to 4-3-1-2 without subs. Lunny still suspended or on his way so misses out. Spot on the bench for Zac Brunt and Antwoine Hackford. I think the FA Cup is 7 subs:

Ramsdale
Basham Egan Stevens
Baldock Norwood Fleck Osborn
McGoldrick
Brewster Burke

Subs: Verrips, Bogle, Lowe, Ampadu, Brunt, Sharp, Hackford

I don't see how this a confidence boosting match for the first team.
Beating a bottom half league 1 side will hardly have their chest puffed out.
If they don't smash them confidence will be even lower.
I'd play a second string team, and use it to let them push for a 1st team place.

Ordinarily yes to the first part of that, but we're not having an ordinary season. These players have basically lost every game for six months and have no opportunity to do anything as a team off the pitch to lighten the mood either. It would be crazy to think that a win over Bristol Rovers will kickstart our season but I can't see how it'd be a bad thing for the players to remember what not-losing feels like. Just win a damn game, I don't care who it's against at this point. Conversely I can't see how getting knocked out by a League One team is any more shameful than being literally the worst team in top flight history, either.

Anyone know presser times?

I also don't even know who the fucks available atm

Ramsdale
Bogle Basham Egan Lowe
Norwood Ampadu Fleck
Brewster Hackford Burke

Just something different based around the Palace squad, 4-3-3
