Team For Sunday

I would think that barring any knocks, he'll start with the side that started the 2nd half v Oxford with the new players on the bench. Can't see him not playing Wilson after he scored the winner last week, can't see him leaving out Scougall after he got MOTM last week, the only exception I can think would be to bring in Clarke for either Done or less likely Sharp to give us more of a physical presence.

So :-

Moore
Freeman, Wilson, Wright, O'Connell
Basham, Coutts
Duffy, Scougs, Done/Clarke
Sharp

Think we will look at a similar team to Oxford.

Moore
Freeman Wilson Wright O'connell
Coutts Basham Fleck
Lavery Sharp Done

Last home game Scougall looked like he got a bad injury, which is why Id leave him out, other than that I thought he was MOTM last week, not sure if he played against Leicester u23's either.

Thought O'Connell last week was solid at LB, and dont think bringing in new players we signed yesterday into the team for defence straight away would be a good idea, let them settle first, even though the defence is still finding its strings.

Wright is a clear leader, and was solid last week, should start and play again, exactly what we need at the back.

Clarke to stay on bench, shame as id play him over Sharp, hes not been great so far this season... but hes our captain.

And really, just keep Hussey and Duffy as far away from the team possible, our weakest links and obvious improvements last week when Hussey came off at half time.

Other than that, I think the new lads will feature on bench with:

Clarke
Hussey
Scougs
Duffy
Chapman
Lafferty
Ethan Ebanks-Landell

I'm not convinced that the signing of Lafferty means we won't need to endure Hussey any more (I know I may be being a bit harsh given he's only had a few games but we have to admit, he's been consistently awful) and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him on the left side of midfield with orders to get back and support the defence as often as required whilst using "the best left foot in the division" to feed balls into the box when we attack.

Who's choice then? Not Wilder's.

O'Connell and Wilson are the wrong way round for a start and have we played 4321 at all? I'd expect either Coutts or Fleck to play a bit further forward if he's going for that selection of players.
Bb you are so right mate. Seen right through me with that about Wilson and O'Connell. I must learn NOT TO SPELL WILSON WITH A W, R, I, G, H, T AS WELL. Your technical and tactical knowledge are far better than mine, obviously, but the personnel is who I think will play, the formation a little bit of how I would like to see them formulated. Its all about opinions. If I've misunderstood and it affects your sensibilities, I apologise

Lol, must have been hallucinating.

I'd go for Sharp and Done in a 2 man front 3 with Coutt's, Fleck and Basham forming the duo in the middle.
5 Overlapping centerbacks which consist of Wilson will be revitalised by our now confident No.1; Moore, Kenny, Tracey, Kelly and Jags.

That should please Wilder, Adkins, Clough, Wilson, Warnock and Bassett.

Will be..

Moore.

Freeman, Wright, Wilson, O'Connell

Duffy, Coutts, Basham, Scougall

Done, Sharp.

Apart from getting the CBs the wrong way round I suspect you're spot on with a view to giving Lavery a run in the second half if he's fit enough.

Fuck knows! Where's Morsy going to fit in?

Moore
Freeman Wilson Wright Lafferty
Coutts Fleck
Duffy Done Lavery
Sharp

Would start with that. Don't think he will though.

I'd go for:

............................Moore
Freeman - Ebanks - O'Connell - Lafferty
.................Coutts.........Fleck.........
Duffy...................Done...........Lavery
..............,............Sharp

Ramsdale, Wright, Wilson, Hussey, Scougall, Basham, Clarke

Have you been to The Lane this season, or are you still protesting?

I'd go with 5 at the back

Moore
Freeman Wilson Wright O'Connell Lafferty
Coutts Bash Scougall
Sharp Done

Wright has to be in there for now, for me. Need some leadership at the back. So either JO'C or Lafferty at left-back, would be Lafferty but maybe Wilder will go with JO'C as Lafferty has just arrived.

Midfield will include Duffy and Fleck. Leaving Bash or Coutts to partner Fleck and Lavery or Scougall as the wide players...if it's Scougs then I expect it'll be 4-2-3-1 but if it's Lavery it could be that or 4-4-2. Don't expect Lavey to start though, maybe give him 45 mins depending on how things are going.

Moore
Freeman Wilson Wright Lafferty
Basham Fleck
Duffy Sharp Scougs
Done

Is my guess.

Longer term I'd like to work JO'C in instead of Wright and Lavery instead of Scougs, possibly Clarke instead of Done. EEL should only start if Wilson loses form.

I'd start with, assuming all fit and not on a ban:-

Moore
Freeman-EEF-O'Connel-Lafferty
Duffy-Basham-Coutts-Fleck
Clarke-Lavery

FFS Wilder stop pissing about with one up top and the other striker 20 yard deep, get 'um both up top, on the shoulders of the opposing centre halves. Clarke will do all the dirty work and win all headers, Lavery will reap all the rewards behind the defence <easy>. Let's start punching a few holes in the oppo defence instead fannying about trying to be too f***ing clever. We're in the third division, we don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Our midfield is too shit to play 4-4-2, Fleck isn't a wide man, and lumping it up for Clarke to win headers is a stupid tactic that doesn't work as he's not a target man, just happens to be quite tall. It's not re-inventing the wheel we need to do, it's playing to people's strengths.

Please indulge me on this formation

3 4 2 1

Moore......... Wilson Wright O'Connell ............ Freeman Basham Coutts Lafferty ...... Duffy Lavery ..... sharp

Subs Long EEL Fleck Chapman Clarke

Freeman and Lafferty to play as wing backs to make 5 when defending and 5 when attacking

Results today have put us back in the drop zone, third from bottom, a draw tomorrow would lift us out, a win would take us to around 15th.

A draw tomorrow would still leave us in the bottom four as Southend have a better Goal difference

Clarke might win a few headers but he has no idea how to direct the headers. Sharp has to start as is a far better all round forward than Clarke

Yep, just answered on the other thread, just looked at BBC final score and tables. Terrible!

Moore
Freeman / wright / Wilson / oconnell

Basham / Coutts

Duffy Done Scougall

Sharp

Bench

Long (no Ramsdale), Lafferty, Ebanks landell, Fleck, Clark, Lavery, Chapman

Clarke is the best target man in the division, if Wilder wants to make the most effective use of him he plays a striker partner alongside him, not 20 yards back in some deep lying role (imo Lavery or Done's pace would be best the match to Clarke's brawn).

Clarke is not a fucking target man and never has been, you're completely clueless if you think he is. All his best work over his entire career has been done with the ball on the ground facing towards goal. Sure, he'll score headers if we provide him with good crosses and can win a few flick ons, but that's not making the most of his abilities. If we play to Clarke's strengths, he gets the ball in or around the area and sticks it in the net, regardless of whether he's on his own or in a front, 2 or 3.

If we use him as a target man then obviously he should have somebody up with him, but we shouldn't be playing him as a bloody target man in the first place (and if he's the best in the division there can't be a single other team playing with one).
