How long is Oconnell and Clarke out for? And while we all like to see or new guys I think that's a bit harsh on Freeman.

O'Connell played on Tuesday he'll be fit for Sunday assuming wilder keeps the Done Sharp partnership Clarke will be on the bench reckon it could be something like this
................Moore
EEL Wilson O'Connell Lafferty
.........Basham Fleck
..Duffy.......Sharp........Lavery
...................Done

Chapman is on international duty. Not sure if Lafferty is in Northern Ireland's squad . I also can't see Lavery playing as he hasnt had a pre season at all

My guess

Moore
Freeman
Lafferty/O Connell
Wilson
Wright

Duffy
Basham
Coutts
Scougall/ Done

Sharp
Done/Clarke

Not my choice but my guess

Once Lavery is match-fit I'd play him wide in a 4-4-2. Until then:

3-5-2.

----------------Moore
--------EEL - Wright -Wilson
Basham---Fleck --Coutts---Lafferty
-----------------Duffy
-----------Sharp--Clarke

O'Connel needs to wait for one of the other CBs to prove themselves unworthy now before getting another crack.
Basham impressed as RWB last season, so gets the nod ahead of Freeman.
Scougall, Lavery and Done all capable of making an impact off the bench.

Jake Wright in a 3 man back four would be asking for trouble, he's nowhere near quick enough go play that role

No idea what the team will be...

- But I would like to think that Chapman has done enough in the patches he had to be given a start.
- Lafferty should definitely start at Left back.
- Freeman showings have been the main positive of the season so far, and it would be harsh to drop him
- And i'd assume Fleck will be back.
- I'd imagine we'd not rush to change the entire back 4 again.
- lavery and EEL most likely start on the bench as they havn't been playing

So potentially;

Moore
Freeman, Wright, Wilson, Lafferty
Basham Fleck
Duffy Coutts Chapman
Sharp

Has Lavery really had ZERO pre-season??

It'll be interesting to see what side he puts out, especially with Coutts and Fleck both available.

I predict this:

Moore

Freeman Wilson Wright O'Connell

Coutts Basham Fleck

Duffy Scougall

Sharp

I'd go with this:

Moore

E-Landell Wilson Wright O'Connell

Coutts Basham Fleck

Chapman Sharp Lavery

Don't think it's the sort of game where there'll be much space and time on the ball, so I'd leave Duffy out, and Chapman and Lavery are more suited to those attacking wide positions anyway. I'd play Ebanks-Landell to give us more physicality and keep O'Connell there partly for the same reason and partly because he did well there against Oxford. Might be a bit early for Lavery but Scougall could replace him after 60/70 minutes.

Joking aside, those bloody Blades. Those magnificent bloody Blades.

Ricky, you fool, Chapman's away with England under 20s. Shocking that he'll be unavailable due to that but hey ho. So it's Done in for him. What it should do is improve Lavery's chances of starting.

Might also change my line up prediction, think he might start Done ahead of Duffy. Can't see him dropping Scougall.

Long term I think the idea will be to have 2 or maybe even all of Done, Scougall and Lavery chasing down defenders so they aren't given time to settle on the ball so can't pick out a pass. Then it's up to Basham and Fleck to win the 2nd ball.

Will be..

Moore.

Freeman, Wright, Wilson, O'Connell

Duffy, Coutts, Basham, Scougall

Done, Sharp.

As far as pressing goes they're three very good players to use as the attacking midfield trio in a 4-2-3-1. Just don't think there's quite enough ability there to go with it.

Totally agree. The work rate and short range speed is not in question but when they actually get the ball is where things often go wrong

My team would be:

- - - - - - - -- - - - - - Moore
Freeman - Eba-La - - - - Wright - - - O'Connell
- - - - - - - - Basham - - - Fleck
- Duffy - - - - - - - - Scougall - - - -- - Lavery
- - - - - - - -- - - - - - Sharp

Subs: Long, Wilson, Lafferty, Whiteman, Coutts, Clarke, Done

  • Maybe a bit harsh to drop Wilson but I didn't think him and Wright coped very well with Oxford's front 2 in the 1st half... I think Wilder will have to quickly find and then settle on his first choice CB pairing
  • The 3 behind Sharp would have enough pace to give them something to think about with ball over top/in behind them...
  • 4 6 footers in the team for attacking/defending set pieces
  • I'd start Lavery as I've got a feeling he may score on debut - maybe he'll only last an hour but I think it's worth a try
  • Hard to choose between Fleck and Coutts....

UTB!!

this is my team

Moore...........Freeman Wilson O'Connell Lafferty........................ Basham Coutts................... Duffy Scougal Done.............. Sharp

Subs............ Long, Fleck, Chapman, Clarke, Wright,

Playing u23s against pigs on Tuesday

Ramsdale............. Charlesworth EEL Semple Hussey................ Reed J Wallace................. Whiteman Brookes Lavery ..... Hall

Every 1st team squad player is involved.

For me -

--------------------Moore----------------------

Freeman - Wilson - Wright - Lafferty

--------------Basham - Coutts--------------

Duffy ------------ Sharp --------Scougall

---------------------Done----------------------

So, same as last week with Lafferty in for Hussey. The other new lads can scrap it out.

...................Moore
Freeman O'Connell Wright Lafferty
........Basham Coutts Fleck
.............Done....Lavery
...................Sharp

But not my choice as I would consider changing Billy for Clarke.

Who's choice then? Not Wilder's.

O'Connell and Wilson are the wrong way round for a start and have we played 4321 at all? I'd expect either Coutts or Fleck to play a bit further forward if he's going for that selection of players.

4 x 6 footers isn't really a lot. It's probably less than average. We could get out-muscled.
I'd expect at least 5 of the 10 outfield players to be over 6ft if we're going to mount a serious challenge.

That means Wilson, O'Connell, EEL, Basham and Clarke starting every week.................. ain't going to happen. We are doomed captain
