I know we "sometimes" get excited about our youth prospects but something I saw against Wrexham very much impressed me. He lost the ball about halfway and he was determined to win it back even though ,I think it was Hampson, was nearer to winning the ball back. You could see in his face that he messed up and he was going to win the ball back. Remember this was the whatever it is called League Cup, not a must win. His determination made me sit up and cheer. Then the icing when he stood up to Marriott. Hope Wilder and Knill brings this fella up right and we have a Legend in the making.

I think we need Peck to be backup and give him plenty of minutes. Can we buy or loan anyone that is significantly better than Peck? This lad has the lot.

Would love him to get stuck into the Wendy. He would relish those battles for sure.

I think we're having a sliding doors moment similar to the David Brooks pre season.

I can see a similar arrangement to the Blaster Port Vale loan being useful, he could be like a new signing in Jan with 20 professional games under his belt?

Then look at a new contract in May!

If we keep souza and as I expect, sign a CM on loan - I'd loan him out to league 1 until Jan so he can play consistently. His movement on the ball and running style was very much reminiscent of Berge but with the added bonus of flying into tackles like montgomery.

I think Peck is going to be the complete midfielder.

Even if we do go up over the next few seasons, he will move beyond us I'm absolutely sure of that 😢

Let's get a few seasons out of him first 🙏🙂

Probably should have posted this here. I'm one of those people who are doing 100 things at once and lucky enough to have people at work to compensate for the fact that doesn't really work out. I wish they'd help me in my personal shizzle

2029??

Is that right??

If so, very good work from the club to tie the lad down at this age.
I suspect he may become a record sale for us for a midfielder

Has the fucking takeover happened or something ?

Really good news.

All the usual caveats apply, but I don’t think I’ve seen a midfield prospect with such physicality at that age since Jagielka. And it’s clear he can play too.
He’s miles ahead of Jags with how he uses the ball and takes a first touch into space away from an opponent.
But agree his use of his body in battles with opponents, and sprints to close down…honestly I was very impressed.

Arblaster and Peck are the best i’ve seen since Walker. Walker was something special, if they can have 10% of the career he’s had they’ll do extremely well.

Peck was good against Wrexham but I do think the reaction is a bit over the top for one game. Watched a lot of the u21’s and I think there’s a few coming through just as good / possibly better, looking forward to seeing Easton and Blacker develop.

This lad is one of those squad players that so many seem to want us to bring in, along with Marsh, Hampson, Seriki, Boyes, Brooks, RND.
Any player coming in should only be coming in if they are better than those.

We'd all feel a lot better if all of these got plenty of minutes this season instead of Hartlepools third choice striker because we've got to get the squad the numbers up

Same here. He wasn't the stand out player for the development team. Marsh and One were more consistent along with Sasnauskas. Peck was good but not great. For me he played his best game alongside Slimane when he featured in one game, where Peck kept winning the ball and giving it to Slimane, who then played it to anyone available in good positive forward positions. They made an effective partnership, but when Peck tried similar passes to Slimane he often gave it away.

Good luck to the lad, but one swallow doesn't make a summer. Let's see what he does in the Championship over a run of appearances as so far he has stood out against lower league opponents.

Everyone is well aware who he was playing,, but what he showed would be the same whoever the opponent.
Yes, against top players he’d have less time and probably less of the ball, but for so few senior games to show the arrogance to control a midfield like that and have a bit of needle off the ball to put himself about shows a winners mentality.

His range of passing with both feet, and turning or taking a good touch will again be the same regardless of who he plays and for me it is beyond doubt he will continue to improve with experience of being around the first team group and some of the quality we have.
He’s going to bring a big return on the initial investment and time coached in the academy.

Something. We likely made a profit last season and have millions of parachute payments coming in. If we couldn't do a deal with a 19 year old who has hardly played we would be in big trouble!

Peck looked an amazing talent in the U18s. He had a good loan spell at Oldham and then missed games last season due to operations on different knees.
It’s good to see Seriki reproducing some of his form from the Development teams into the first team.

Again, everyone’s in agreement he had a great game, but your sample size is exactly that, one game. I just hope if/when he does play more and he isn’t as good, people give him time since he’s now been hyped up so much.

We have some exciting looking players coming through over the next couple of years.

It did wind me up a bit that he kept Coulibaly on and didn't bring on a decent CM for him to play with. I reckon his game would have looked even better if he didn't have to cover both positions.
I don't think Wilder wanted to use Souza in this game. We didn't have a lot of other options in central midfield, although we may have had a look at Hamer in a deeper role.

Coulibaly got in trouble several times first half and struggled to recover. He improved second half. His errors stood out, but his pass accuracy (88%) was actually second best. In a way the midfield worked offensively and defensively to the extent a change wasn't vital.

You’ve either got it, or you haven’t. And there are plenty of players who simply cannot do what he did Tuesday night. He made very few errors, stats bear that out.

And having the ability is one thing, but you need the graft, aggression and athleticism to do it too.

In many ways, developing in football is the same as developing yer batting in cricket.
Technique can be practiced constantly, tweaks made to footwork and positioning, but the first time you face a ball faster than you’ve ever faced you’re buggered and have to start the practice again.

And this is the same, it takes time to adjust the higher you go. Players are faster, stronger, you get less time on the ball so you have to adjust your game to match it by improving your first touch, picking up the pace with moving the ball and not making mistakes to turn the ball over easily.
Granted the lower down you go the slower it is but it’s the amount of errors and poor decisions that stand out.

This lad was way ahead of L1 level players, he’s Champ level now and as he is exposed to better teams and players in training he has shown he has all the ingredients to take that last step up.
3 years time I reckon he’s a regular in a premier league midfield.
