Coulibaly got in trouble several times first half and struggled to recover. He improved second half. His errors stood out, but his pass accuracy (88%) was actually second best.
Lundstram’s 2nd season in the Prem seemed to be about improving that stat as he turned and passed back to Baldock constantly.

I agree that stat doesn't automatically mean a player's done well, but after that game I don't think I was alone in thinking Coulibaly's stat would be lower.

Has one good game and gets a contract !
Bloody ridiculous 😉 .
I know it’s a tongue in cheek comment. But it is True and true…

True that he’s had the one good game this season, as many have said (including myself), Wrexham played a weakened side and they’re League one, currently. I think Wrexham were more competitive than Preston were, they gave less time on the ball from what I could see and most importantly, amongst heavy criticism of Coulibaly and some less so of Slimane, you could also say that Peck was in a weaker midfield. Again, one game but also important factors.

His standout performance though means that he will be knocking on Wilders door for more game time. The lad doesn’t appear to be shy so I’m sure that conversation will have happened before Tuesday.

And then we have the recent issue which has plagued our club and others… players running down contracts. Ndiaye, Berge, Bogle all went for fairly low fees to what they would’ve been worth while on a 4 year deal. McBurnie and Jebbison didn’t sign new deals and left on frees, albeit Jebbison generating compo.

So it makes sense to get Peck on a longer deal, which probably means a larger wage, but should be worth it to protect the club

This was something that Wilder fixed when he came in first time around and I’m sure he’ll also have been involved in protecting the club this way since he came back this time

Another good thing from us doing this is that it would seem to indicate all those rumours of the off field issue last season have gone as we surely would not offered him this if that was waiting to come back and bite us on the arse.

A great bit of news, im convinced he will be the best of our midfielders, he appears to have it all, the future looks bright with blaster, peck, brooks, marsh ,a huge praise to our academy

It was tongue in cheek ,looks a real talent.
It's a difficult balance for clubs to retain thier talented youngsters and not allow them to feel they've already achieved it.
See it with so many young players on high wages , just lose thier desire .
I'm sure it's not the case as we won't have him on megabucks . Good decision for all I think .

I think it’ll be incremental increases either with improved contracts within the next four years or with increases and bonuses built in for him to hit targets

Very fair. His midfield compadres were certainly weaker. He carried that central midfield vs Wrexham.

And I know this sounds like pure hype, but even in his brief Preston cameo, he collected the ball and instantly played a perfect forward pass into the striker’s feet in such a natural and decisive manner it made me think hello…. A lot of players, especially youngsters, would have had the manager’s instructions in their ears and just clipped a percentage pass in behind.

That’s the eye test that stats don’t easily describe. We saw it with Ndiaye on debut too.

Anyway that’s enough of that. He’s still just a kid.

I don't think fans are overreacting.
Sometimes you can just tell when a player's a level above.

We saw it with Phil Jagielka & to a lesser extent Michael Tonge.
We definitely saw it with Kyle Walker & Kyle Naughton.
We saw it with Morgan Gibbs-White, Dean Henderson and Iliman Ndiaye in recent seasons.

These are players that physically and / or technically display traits that you only really see at the highest level.

I can't honestly say I saw a PL player in Harry Maguire, but delighted with the career he's had.

Sydie Peck has the lot to make it at the top level. He just needs to work very hard now and show a consistency that's unusual in youth players.
If he can keep working on his physique too, then he'll take to the top level comfortably. He looks like he likes to mix it, which is very encouraging.
Ollie Arblaster has it all too. Wonderfully gifted in a technical sense and physically looks quite robust.
If we don't go up, he'll be in the PL regardless I'd have thought.

Great news. Can only assume (cynically) that it's been in discussions for a while and his Wrexham performance nailed it.

He'll be in our first team by January is my prediction. Absolutely class player from what I've seen so far.

That 40 yard pass is 10/10.. up there with Norwoods pings.

Outstanding performance from a young lad, strength, skill, passing ability and the confidence to press the issue against men. Really excited to see him develop with us, even happier knowing he’s locked down on a long deal. Wouldn’t send him out on loan. He’d be in and around the team all season, and I could personally see him taking a shirt if given the opportunity.

I'd send him on loan if he's only going to play a bit part even if it's only until January. We saw it with our own eyes how playing brings players on with people like Doyle and Mcatee

Again, everyone’s in agreement he had a great game, but your sample size is exactly that, one game. I just hope if/when he does play more and he isn’t as good, people give him time since he’s now been hyped up so much.

We have some exciting looking players coming through over the next couple of years.

Peck looked surprisingly good when he came on against Brentford last season too.

What I like is that he has a good first touch, looks comfortable on the ball and can play a range passes, looks a player you’d want in a team that wants to press and retain possession.

If you want to survive in the PL you need all your players to have a good 1st touch and be comfortable on the ball, not treating it like a hot potato. Well pleased he’s signed. Think he was a good future.

He’s the natural successor to Norwood with his passing range and ability to play with his head up and see the field. He’s stood out in that respect since he first pulled on a red and white shirt.

What’s changed is he seems to have developed physically to be able to handle to rigours of the men’s game. He’ll have good games and bad games like all youngsters until he finds his feet and finds that consistency.

I’d always had him pigeon holed as that deep sitting conductor dictating the tempo of the game like I said very similar to Norwood it seems however he might have the potential to be more than that now that hes bulked up a bit he’s getting forward and getting at players as well he could be a real all rounder if he continues to develop.

He does very much seem comparable to Norwood in position and role..... but better physically, more aggressive, and less minded to look for the longer pass all the time. A different approach to the same role in the team, and an approach I definitely prefer. He's more likely to turn, link up and go forward

I think you can't pigeon hole him as a certain type of midfielder, he's an all-rounder for me ,he can hit passes long or short, looks strong physically and he's well able to get around the pitch to be involved in all areas of the pitch.
They showed a heat map of his positions on the pitch after the game the other night and he was literally everywhere.
Great business to sign him up long term.

Looks a good young player, some of the comparisons to Jagielka and Brown after one game against poor opposition seem a bit silly though.

Lots and lots of good stuff there. And it was a competitive man's game , not a pre season run around.

Looking forward to seeing this lad get some minutes through the season

Excellent performance against Wrexham and deserved all the plaudits.
However I thought he could have done better on the equaliser and should have kept closer to Dykes. Shows that he's still a lot to learn
