As has been stated here there have been a number of official and unofficial supporter's clubs for some time. Who is in one and what do you get out of it?
The main questions I have been asked about the one I'm in are "How many away coaches do you run?" and "What do I get out of it?"
Well, as far as away coaches, we've not run one for quite a while. Why? It's too hard to get a bunch of tickets for so many people now the loyalty points system is running. (It's the fairest way of doing it in my opinion though.) Also the cost of coach hire has shot up in recent years.
Secondly, what do they get out of it? Not, it seems, a hell of a lot.

How many of you are in one, and what do you get out of it?

Not in one, wouldn't know whats out there.

As stated on another thread, i think the club could get some favour back with the fans by launching a new supporters club, a proper one, that everyone knows about and that the fans can get input with.

Nope.

Anyway, what are we if not an unofficial supporters club? :)

You don't have to pay us subs, we don't have silly committees and as for meetings, does the Golden Lion ring a bell? :D

I reckon it's a damned good arrangement. The only possible down side to it is that their is no "official recognition" from the club, but as has been stated in other threads if you write a polite letter to whoever you want to reach at the club it will get through, and very often you get a reply.
As far as what I get out of it, that's easy. I've met some good people, and the away trip to Southampton last season was easily one of the best I've had, with the comedic value of the Chuckle Brothers in my car.

If ever anyone wanted some points raising with the club and a consensus could be reached on the points and questions people wanted answering, I would be more than happy to write to the club on behalf of us as a message board.

Rabble-rouser I am not however, and I don't think gobbing off gets any answers.

I think that is an excellent idea. I'm not in favour of gobbing off either, reasoned debate is all good. I think a quarterly letter to Mr McCabe would be a nice thing to do. Especially if we get some responses.

I shall set up a thread then in Comments, Suggestions and Problems for a letter to go out at the end of February. If anyone would like to have any input, head over there :)

The thread is HERE

As I said before elsewhere, I am very loathe to get political. If you want pressure groups to force the club to act your way, then I am not prepared to put my name to that.

But feedback, both bad and good... I have no problem with.

I'm part of official supporters club, Sportsman Branch. We run coaches to away games, usually only one coach but occasionally two. You get the usual crew on there, but you do get the odd other person who joins us.

We're covered by club's insurance at away games, we get discount in club shop, we get priority on tickets... and we get chance for tickets at the Player of the Year awards!!

There's a few branches: Headquarters, Sportsman, Woodseats, Harthill.... sure SV can top up that list

I'm a member of SUDS (Sheffield United Disabled Supporters), we try to organize a coach to most away matches depending on who wants to go and how many away tickets we are given (some clubs don't give us that many :( ). The cost of the coach travel is usually subsidies from the money we make from raffle draws and selling refreshments in the community hall on John Street. We meet once a month, have an annual dinner and dance each year just after Christmas and go on day trips. Most of us can usually be found in the community hall on match days having a drink and debating what tactics blackie is going to use next! ;)
Everyone is welcome to come and say hi, you don't have to be disabled, we have able bodied members too and we don't bite........usually! :D

There used to be a supporters club at Swinton too. Don't know what happened to that though.

There's a coach runs from there isn't there? Or there was. I remember seeing it last year.

Did it used to be called BUDS? This isn't a piss-take, I'm sure my wife's aunt was/is in BUDS. Or is that yet another of the supporters clubs?

No BUDS is a seperate supporters club that was set up after SUDS was formed by former members of SUDS after they had a disagreement regarding the allocation of tickets for away matches. :)

Senior Blades

The Sheffield United Senior Blades Club was founded in 1981 for senior citizens sixty years of age and over. The club has progressed considerably with a membership consistently over five hundred. In August 2006 a celebration dinner was held to commemorate our Silver Jubilee. We are indebted to the late George McCabe for his wisdon in suggesting such a club along with our President Derek Dooley MBE who were the co-founders.

The schedule of events for the club is as follows:

Sunday social every fortnight in the Platinum Suite commencing 7.30-10:30pm

Members meet every second Tuesday of the month which takes place inthe Platinum Suite commencing at 12.30pm. This includes a three course meal which members have to book through our Treasurer or Secretary (price £8.50). A speaker or entertainment is arranged for 2.00pm which members can attend if they do not wish to take advantage of the meail. The meeting usually closes at 4.00pm

Two day trips are arranged during the summer months which are very popular.

September involves a bowls tournament which is very well supported.

During December a Christmas Dinner with entertainment is held in the Platinum Suite for members and friends. This is very well attended and enjoyed by all.

The club is indebted to the Board of Directors who give the Senior Blades Club their full support. This is very much appreciated.

For more information on the Senior Blades, please contact Mike Webb, Honourary Secretary, on 0114 236 6754.
