SUFC Women - worth a watch?

Under the radar obviously because of events up in Newcastle, but the ladies u21s won the u21s cup today beating Chelsea 2-0. Quite an achievement.

Considering Chelsea are the number 1 womens team in the WSL that is indeed some achievement. Club should get the ladies on the pitch before the Florist game. Success should always be celebrated and in this aberration of a season this brings a little cheer to anyone wearing red and white.

Good old Princey. Starts a women's side can't run it correctly.

Just a thought but maybe it’s a policy decision due to any possible takeover. You know, just like the men’s side. Bit out there l know. For some.

Read this earlier and if true (it's the mail) it's a fucking worry and a shitshow indeed.

Even if some of these details aren't true (Kathryn Batte is a really good reporter on the women's game so no reason to suspect otherwise) it's still a shit situation - we're the only club in the league not to have published their released / retained list (turns out that's literally because we haven't decided who we're keeping, although meanwhile two of our best players have already left) and it's 5 months and counting without hiring a managerial replacement.

I wrote this about it the other day if you want to see it laid out - whole club is basically in stasis: https://womenofsteel.substack.com/p/united-in-stasis

It would not surprise me at all if the powers that be at The Lane had totally forgotten about the women’s side when calculating a budget for next season.

He's well and truly checked out hasn't he. Doesn't want to put another penny into the club while this takeover is going through the motions. It just baffles me that there doesn't seem to be any direction whatsoever. Everyone at the club ses to be in the dark
the owner is treating the fans with utter contempt .

Who have left?

I may well sound bad at this but in my opinion the sufc women should be a total seperate entity from sufc, they should be allowed to use the name but should have a total seperate funding and playing stadium / ground, this way it has no repercussions against us and anyone who wants to watch / support them would be helping just them.

I don’t doubt it’s true but is anyone genuinely surprised or triggered about this when exactly the same modus operandi is already in action for the men’s team?
One poster writes an interesting opinion while I suspect the women’s side of the club has only today become of interest to some others.,

Is it a shit show, obviously because without a takeover we really are in a mess squad wise, but the need a few have to effectively make the same point sometimes several times a day across a range of threads is pretty pathetic as well as being boring as fuck.

Can not see any player resigning a contract with so much uncertainty surrounding the club . It is like a rudderless ship drifting towards the rocks . God help us if this take over falls through

As i understand it, the club has so few people for business administration and i know that they are working hard, but the priority, presumably has to be with the most lucrative part of the business and there aren't enough people to manage that... and this is whilst the investment is going on in the background.

That's if there is a takeover taking place ' Have we heard anything official from the club that there is one?Serious question can not remembering any statement .

Could be curtains for the united women going on this, Blackburn players on £9k, Reading going to the wall, I though the women's game was going from strength to strength, record crowds, tv coverage etc

I doubt it’s curtains unless the takeover falls through and Princeypops decides to cut everything to the bone. We’re not there yet.

Respect your opinion but I think this merits as much attention as it can get. United Women went full-time last summer which for many of these players will have been the first time they could realistically think they could make a career out of the game we all love; now that's potentially being thrown up in the air again.

Totally understand that it's the same situation as the men, where the club is kind of on an administrative pause. But would it really have been that hard to have at least the bare-minimum of operations continuing? I should also say it's five months since we sacked Jonathan Morgan as manager and we still haven't hired a permanent replacement - perhaps if we'd moved that along more quickly then decisions on contracts would have been made before this takeover even reared its head.

I can see some people aren't interested in the women's game but I am, particularly at my club, and it's a pretty depressing situation.

Not denying any of your points, totally agree with what you say. I was however wondering if any of our fellow members concerns had manifested themselves before today, or whether it was just another chance to weigh in, despite many many threads covering effectively the same subject.

At least give the regular starters new contracts ffs. Minimum.

Club captain and head of academy Sophie Barker has just announced she's leaving too. I'm presuming she has a nice role lined up (I was wondering if she'd be our next manager; apparently not) and it's more about that than United's current situation, although hard to imagine that's not at least a small factor. Sad to see, the U21s results speak for themselves under her leadership.

whether people knew about this situation is one thing, should they not be concerned? Should people not be concerned that the office staff won’t be paid etc etc.

These women have livelihoods and won’t be financially be able to live like this, but your concern are the thoughts of forum members

Office staff aren’t getting paid? Link?

I said members concerns, not mine.

I have no concerns about totally - and daily - negative members who as usual have their agenda to promote. We have the can’t see anyone resigning comment which is where my concerns come in for the players. Some, at the moment may not have other options. To me that’s bigger thing than being able to shake a fist at an owner.

If you try to twist my words, at least try to put something cogent behind it.

And l’ll ask again, office staff not being paid?

Sorry I worded that incorrectly. That was if the office staff were not to be paid.

Should we not shake a fist at the prince whilst being concerned. Who should we shake a fist at?

l’d have the same concerns. Someone said today the club was a shambles top to bottom, l asked what those at the bottom had to do with the current shit show because they come in day to day, do their jobs and probably go home wondering if a redundancy notice is coming. Same with the women’s players. Which is what the thread is about, ie the reality for them. Didn’t need expanding to a “what if” scenario for effect.

Some people are fine with embargos, seasons without even a slim chance, points deductions, weak squads with weeks to go until pre season fixtures starts and now the women's side in a mess and would rather we cheerlead instead 😉
