Didn't mind his press conference, not bothered about all the possession stats etc. Said that himself and the coaching staff need to be better, as well as the players and that's true. But as I said on another thread all talk about formations etc is pointless. Our problem is how quickly we move the ball and the lack of movement. Too many play on 4 and 5 touch and it's too easy to defend against. No manager in world football is telling there team to play slowly !! Add to that we hardly ever have players making a run behind someone, Hamer will move across , seriki does it from full back, O Hare occasionally, but for example when was the last time a central midfield player mad a run past a striker ? Move the ball quicker, plenty of movement and you beat at least 20 of the sides in this league with ease.

Like we did against Coventry. So why are we not doing it all of the time? The players that can't or won't do it, get them out of the starting 11.

I and most Blades are expecting us to absolutely batter Cardiff. They are on a real low at the moment - even their manager is slating their fans. He hasn't got long left there by the looks of it. We must batter Cardiff tomorrow to take some belief into the Burnley game which is a MUST WIN at all costs.

Moving on to the Burnley game, I don't want to see none of this negative sit back and counter attack mallarky - go there for an all out victory. Anything less is autos over (probably is anyway tbf) but the intent and confidence must continue into the play offs.

He will literally never blames himself does he? Thats noticeable

He used to (first spell), but I think the Middlesbrough & Watford sackings have made him a little insecure.
I'd have thought he'd be better served owning it though.

Doesn't have to do that. Everyone who seen us play knows what we're going to do.

But hey, so long as we have 70% possession we'll be reyt...

He'll refer to the stats when we lose, but when the stats don't suit and we're winning it's "forget the data, we know how to win games" etc.

At no point did I feel we were "in control" against Plymouth. These teams are happy to give up possession to us, we're not imposing our will.

Yep - Radio Sheffield lads won’t upset him …..remember that guy Mike McCarthy - think he upset Wilder - & he’d barely speak to him. Our Chris does not like too many direct questions about his errors.

That's the "siege mentality" thing coming out again.
The question (I think) was re: Lundstram and only reflected what most fans were thinking at the time.
He really does need to develop a thicker skin, he's not beyond reproach.

A Director of Football model could never work with Wilder, and if the new owners extend their reach into recruitment (which they've shown signs of doing) there'll no doubt be more trouble behind the scenes.

As much as I love Wilder and everything he's done for us, he isn't the future if we have ambitions to stay in the PL with a modern football model.

Did we against Coventry though. We were excellent but that was because they had a lot of the ball and we could be solid organised and then hit them on the break and the quality then kicked in. The 3 games last week and tomorrow were and will be completely different.
I expect us to win tomorrow , like i expected us to win the 3 games last week, and they will if they move the ball quicker !! That is on the players , i repeat no manager in world football is telling there team to play on 4 and 5 touch !!
We can win the last 4 and if needs be the 3 after. but it’s about mentality and urgency. We have to start faster also

Shields sounds like a drunken cockney wanker , I can barely stand to listen to his deep voiced drivel.
The rest aren't much kop either.
Instead of sycophantic shite , where are the real questions ?
How much did your selections and substitutions contribute to this week of pure farce ?
Wtf did you buy cannon ?
Knowing he's done fuck all since arriving , wtf did you start him in a must-win at Plymouth ?
Wtf did you not get a quality Soutter replacement early in the window ?
Instead of a rusty cannon whom you've barely played ?
Wtf did you bring in Holding who was miles from match-fit ?
Or didn't you want to upset your captain thugwash ?
You talk about culture carriers - who is responsible for our culture which has brought so many FA fines this season ?

Do you find anything illogical about failing to replace Souttar when he was a great defensive leader and a calming influence for half the season ?

I give up on his interviews - the interviewers fail to challenge his ramblings , so he rambles on with lots of emotion and little sense.

I usually don't bother with the pre match interviews, let alone the lengthy press conferences. I did listen to this one though, while pruning the blueberry bushes.

Wilder does not want to give tactical insights, and I think there are two reasons.
  • He doesn't want opposition staff learning about how he sees things, and how he would like to address issues.
  • He underestimates the knowledge and interest of the fans.

Agree that the journalists are afraid to ask critical questions, and if they do they have to wrap it as something that's coming from fans. Wilder wrote it off as "simplistic assessment", before ending up with "it all boils down to what happens in both boxes".

But the friendly questions are understandable, remembering what happened with McCarthy a few years ago. That was painful. We probably have to accept that this is how it'll be with Wilder. Have a listen to the post match reaction, but don't expect to get any tactical insight from the pre match chat and biscuits.

At the end of the day, performances and results are the main thing.

Fixed it

, wtf did you start him in a must-win at Plymouth ?
I think he did this expecting a free hit, if a Cannon got a few goals pressure would be off his latest multi million pound gaff.

This amounts to putting his own interests before SUFC and it backfired, possibly cost us promotion

I’m I right?

I suspect that he did think that it was a good chance to get Cannon off the mark, but surely that would be a good thing for Sheffield United first and foremost?
Getting Cannon scoring would be a great thing for the Blades. It wouldn't fit with the agenda of many on here, but it would be great for the club.
Wilder will be judged ultimately on the performance of the club, not on the performance of Tom Cannon.

What was more important playing a striker with more confidence and knowledge of the way we play and subsequently gain a very important three points or trying to get a new player a goal so that he feels better and may be able to score more in the future ????
It’s about the here and now and our manager cocked up in a big way.

It is not about the player or the club, it was about going three points and there were better players sat on the bench capable of doing that.
Stop making excuses for our manager who has messed up the last two / three team selections and tactics.

Agree - I actually think we're set up for counter attacks and thats why our better performances have been against teams who have a lot of the ball.
Its another reason BBD hasn't quite been at the level he was last year, because the only chances we got last year were on the counter where he flourished.

I'll say it until I'm blue in the face, the loss of arblaster has been massive. For all Peck performances and improvement (and I really rate him) - Arblaster's ability to move the ball quick, take the ball on the half turn and pass through the lines has been hugely missed and would've helped us against the teams who sit in. Davies another one who has more of these traits and has gone AWOL since a decent run over christmas.

Omer Riza spoke to the press ahead of our Sky Bet Championship clash against Sheffield United on Friday.

“We know the position we’re in and we’re focused on what we need to do to try to get out of that," Omer began. "In respect of how we are, they’re all working hard.

“I think everyone is aware of what the scores are when things like this happen and you’re playing a later kick-off. Again, I think it’s just about us managing our own situation and performing to the best of our ability with the games that we’ve got. We can’t afford to look at the other games and think it’s going to help us or not. We’re just fully focused on we need to try to do.

“I’m not looking at how many points it’s going to take. I think we can just deal with what is present and stay in the moment; that’s what’s important now. If you start thinking of what you need and having positive or negative thoughts around that, it leads to other pressures and other situations. We take every game as it comes and try to remain focused on what we need to do.

“Unfortunately, you have to go through these moments to become better and a better version of yourself. It’s a tough position, but I’m not shirking responsibility and I’m up for the challenge. That’s been since day one and it isn’t going to change right until the end."

Friday's opponents currently sit third in the table, but have fallen to defeat in their last three fixtures.

Omer continued:
“I think it’s the same with how we’ve tried to approach every game, and that’s to be fully focused on making sure that every player is ready from start to finish, and that every staff member has done what they’ve needed to do to make sure that every player is ready.

“I think rather than forecast what’s going to happen, talking about whether they’ve lost their last three and now they should win their fourth because their manager is going to be on them, or whether we’ve not been able to win our last game and forecast that we are to lose against Sheffield United because they’re higher up in the table than us, I think the mindset is 'let’s see what happens'. Rather than go down the route of this could happen and that could happen, we have to be focused on believing we can win the game.

“My message to the fans is always the same. We thank them for everything they’ve done for us this year. There’s a lot of travelling and they spend a lot of money, whether it’s in the cold or sunshine. We need them. They will be there again in their numbers and there’s a really good core of supporters at this Club. They are there and they know what their main objective is, which is to support the players no matter what. When you have fans like that, they’re very important to the Club."

The City boss concluded with an injury update ahead of Friday's fixture.

“Fitness-wise, we’ve lost Isaak Davies in training yesterday with a slight hamstring problem.

"Perry Ng has been out this week, I’m not sure yet when he’ll come back because he hadn’t trained all week, but did some light stuff today. Andy Rinomhota has trained today.

"Other than the long-term injuries, everyone else is available."

I’ll do what I like, thanks - I don’t take instructions from you.

I was responding to the proposition that Wilder selected Cannon in order to put his own interests ahead of those of SUFC. That assertion was all about the player or the club. I don’t believe that Wilder put the player (ie his own interests) above the club.

I was surprised and disappointed that Wilder chose Cannon ahead of Tyrese, and was frustrated at how late the latter came on as a substitute. However, Campbell looks tired in recent games, and hardly covered himself in glory with a good chance ( although at least he had one, which is more than can be said for Cannon). He’s also had a hell of a week off field. It’s just possible that Wilder is aware of things that we aren’t. Either way, we cocked up and lost a game we needed to win - and that’s down to everybody on the field, the coaching staff and the manager.

That’s my view, and I’ll express it whether you like it or not.

Agree, but as you point out if it had worked, but it didn’t and could cost us trying to prove he was right

There were two clear chances which should have been scored. Had either gone in we would have gone on to win.
However I agree that we do look lacking when in possession. Is that poor coaching or simply a lack of ability?
Works both ways. How many teams have missed really good chances against us when we've gone on to win 1-0 or 2-1.

Say what you like, you are entitled to, after all it is an open forum for debate. If we all agreed there would be no point having a forum where some of us have different opinions.
Now go chill out.

I think there's a 3rd reason and that is that he's at a stage of his career (combined with his confidence / arrogance) where he doesn't feel the need to raise his profile or create his 'personal brand' by talking about tactics. I think that, more often than not, when a manager goes into depth about tactics, it's a 'look at me' thing aimed at creating interest for when the next job comes up and it's usually younger managers who do it.

I think most managers would prefer to take the Marshawn Lynch approach to press conferences as they just view them as a massive pain in the arse. All they care about is their team and their results and giving fans an insight into their thought process wouldn't even make it onto their list of priorities.

Yes where the fuck is Davies ?
