Stuart Armstrong

I know someone that works at Southampton. They're not in the know about Armstrong's next destination but I just messaged them and they said: "Close to 0% chance of him going to champ I’d say".

Ooh, I know someone who works for Southampton. Vaguely. I wonder if it's the same chap.

When he was through on goal last night I got Oli Burke vibes as he completely forgot about the ball (controversially I didn't think it was a penalty as Armstrong basically stopped rubbing and stepped in front of the defender instead).

Typical of most centre midfielders to be fair.

Although I think it’s a stone wall penalty but so glad they didn’t get it.

I seem to be the only one, but you can't just initiate contact and expect a penalty! He basically left the ball so he could get knocked over.
I get it. But that’s football these days Sterling and Kane do it every week and get a penalty.

Not like that, he had no control over the ball, he stepped away from it. Almost like one of those amusing "shielding"/wrestling the ball out for a goal kick.

Have to agree to disagree. My TV would have a hole init if England were knocked out due to that.

glad it wasnt but thought it was a stonewall pen bbc showed that the hungarian lad clearly caught armstrongs leg as for the player think he would be a very good signing as an attacking midfielder got good physicality and pace about him just what we need on a 2 year deal

The disused fire damaged ski village is a bigger tourist attraction than any of that old art and shit they’ve got in Florence.

Sheffield has to trump Southampton though TBF.

One of the advantages, genuinely, of the new First Team training ground is that it brings it into the commutable orbit of the Cheshire footballer zone. Non rush hour you’d do it in an hour each way, but Shirecliffe currently adds another 30 mins.

I agree it wasn’t a penalty. Armstrong grabbed the defender’s arm and pulled him into him. He was too busy trying to win a penalty when he should’ve been concentrating on trying to score.

At first glance I thought it was a pen. With the benefit of replays the on field decision seems correct. Surprised VAR didn’t have a look though

Let's say their name together. After 3.

Your ready?

Ha, sadly not.

I met one of their set piece coaches at a wedding, he's married to an old school friend of mine. I'm not even completely sure he's still there - this was last Summer.

Totally agree.

It wasn't until I saw the footage from behind though that I thought that.

You couldn't even say SA was shielding the ball as he wasn't in playing distance.

I thought it was modern football in a nutshell. A striker through on goal, a chance to score the goal that sends your country through for the first time ever, huge bank of fans behind the goal, a chance for the glory and his first thought is to look for a pen.

Maybe they should just get rid of penalties unless it's a foul in the 6 yard box

In fairness to Armstrong, as my mate (Russ Martin) said on whatsapp, it was probably Armstrong's first real sprint for 2 months so he was might've been exhausted by the time he hit to the ball.

Everyone in that WhatsApp group chat thought it was a penalty mind you.

Not as bad as the Croatian strikers dive though was it?

cant understand the negativity on here with armstrong i think he would be a great signing even at 32 we cant play a team full of u23s he would easily get us 12/15 goals at least next season

Can’t see this one happening- a lower-mid table premier league club like Fulham will take him, unless he chooses to try his luck in Italy (where Scottish players seem to be flourishing recently for some reason!).
