Let's be brutally frank, we have 6 strikers and none of them seems to work in a partnership with anyone else. You have to look long and hard at the management and recruitment team and ask them what they're doing. Can our two most expensive strikers play together? It would seem not.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason behind which two we send out every week. No logic and there have been so many different combinations it smacks of desperation.

It's no wonder none have been able to form a partnership.

Hi Stegosaurus here

Fact is, Wilder for whatever reason doesnt like Sharp. Then blew his load on two players who arent proven in the prem. Then chops and chsnges his front two so often. He should have signed Troy Deeney or Pukki. Given our form last season, we could also have tried to snag Chris Wood from Burnley instead.

But since he didnt, our front two should be our best player (McG) and best finisher (Sharp).

The choices seem to be largely around who’s fit enough to play. Sharp and Dids can’t consistently play 70 minutes each game.
McBurnie will always start when fit, and for next season I’d suggest it’ll be with Brewster. For the rest of this year it’ll be who’s not in the red zone and able to play.

You mean like a 39 goal championship partnership that got us in the PL in the first place ??

Said it b4. Again now.

Incredibly naive of the management team to leave it 18 months before giving this proven pairing a shot at it. Particularly so when the new recruits at the top of the pitch had not exactly torn it a new one !!

I would tend to agree. Probably the position where you want to keep most constant after the keeper is ur strikers.

It's no wonder none of them can get into a rhythm. If it was up to me I would be playing Burke and Brewster up front for remaining games

If that's the case, why has he signed two players (Burke and Moussett) who aren't fit enough to play 90 minutes let alone two games in a week, knowing he has two aging players who can't? It's not like he's given the Brewster and McBurnie partnership ample chance and the rest are just back-up.

As has been pointed out many times on here, this season who the strike partnership is largely irrelevant. When you offer zero service to them and the majority of touches are coming outside of the final third or just hit towards your head, you have no chance.

Earlier this season Alan Shearer thought he wouldn't score in this team. I'm inclined to agree with him.
Whenever we concede, ramsdale gets blamed, don't score and it's the strikers. I'm more inclined to look at the other 8 players. Particularly the midfield 5, who have offered little defensive protection and still created nothing.

Oh sorry, you're right I shouldn't have included Burke in the "fit to play list", I think he's generally fit to play, it's just a question of if it's good enough at this level at the moment. I think Burke could play most games if selected.
WRT Moose, if he was fit he'd start alongside McBurnie, but he just can't seem to get fit. Clearly that wasn't the plan when he signed.

Hindsight is a wonderful tool to have with Moose - just think we took a gamble and it's failed. He seems a very troubled person.

There was a reason he made 50+ appearances for Eddie Howes Bournemouth of which only a few were starting places. Howe got rid at a decent price, but I reckon Howe knew exactly what he was doing by selling him to us. He has issues, one of which is injuries as you suggest. I remember CW saying quite early about Moose - " He needs to feel the love" - well for me there seems far too much baggage surrounding Moose culminating in the latest episode with the lambo. Moose is finished at United - just doesn't seem to have the "can do" attitude that CW insists players have as a given. Remembering him for 1 goal v Man U is not what we should expect from a player. He's just another example as to how we have sadly got strikers wrong since getting promoted - but then we all knew with what quality costs this would be our biggest problem.

Or...

Seeing as whichever of the 15 potential strike partnerships we deploy seems to fail, surely the common denominator lies in something that remains constant? Such as...

Formation
Shite midfielders behind them
Continually chopping and changing personnel

Our long term partnership is McBurnie and Brewster.
Play them.

Play Dids behind them whenever possible for the foreseeable future too.

Billy from the bench, Burke on a wing when we go to 4-4-2 and get Moose sold.

not a mcburnie fan but if hes staying he has to be paired with brewster for the rest of this season to see how they work together personally i would prefer burke with brewster

True, but regardless the last point stays true. Strikers can't form an understanding if they don't play together regularly. The chopping and changing feels a bit like desperation.

Let's try playing without strikers. A 3-7 formation with the midfielders charging about like headless chickens would really confuse the opposition.

Well it's a thought.

Get rid of Moose and replace him with Adam Armstrong to play alongside Billy with McG behind in a 4-3-1-2 .

I dearly hope that Wilder will spare both us and himself the embarrassment that is 5-3————2 in next year’s Championship but I’m not holding my breath .

he needs to be given a chance were down only good can come out of giving him a run in the team and if he shows nothing pull him off after an hour but lets not just leave the lad sat in the stand game after game

Jebbo and Iliman are on the same wavelength.

Jebbo and McB I think would work.

Can't comment on Osula but no reason he and Jebbo might not work.

Billy dosen't work with any of them.

Brewster is irrelevant this season.

Going back to that preseason in Portugal
Jebbo & Osula looked the business, hopefully Osula can push on after a few decent games at Derby

This season?!
Brewster won't return and destroy defences . After the length of time he'll have been out it will take a while, which he won't have. Sander is still finding his way back and he was out for a fraction of the time.

Only saw a couple of Derby games where he played, mainly the early rounds of the FA Cup so it’s difficult to judge as there’s an obvious change in levels, but I did notice he played quite well with his back to goal. Jebbo, imo, needs balls played in front of him to run onto, that’s his strength so Osula, if he can step up, offers something a little different. Difficult to assess though based on a couple of games.

What about Louie Marsh…. We raved about Lankshear but Marsh is banging them in at a similar rate for the U21s. Could be online with a debut in the cup with Osula and Jebbison out.

Totally agreed with the above. The additional substitutes now can work in our favour if we need to switch something

Do we assume that we have accepted the red card for Jebbo, as you would have thought the appeal would have gone in straight away.

I reckon so, although it grates me, he did "kick out" off the ball, so any appeal would likely fail.

Shame the 4th official on that side didn't see Bogle get slapped in the face eh!

As bizarre as it seems at least having the replay means one less Championship game it has affected. If the equaliser didn't go in, he would have missed the 'boro at home match too.
