Strikers

McBurnie looked far more effective than Mousset. Granted he didn't offer much of a goal threat, but he held it up well and got a few tackles in.

Our strikers are great. Still adapting to the team and the league but they're showing plenty of promise.

Also don't know if you've noticed but we're 7th in the fucking table so we can't be doing that bad
Boooooo

When you consider the club is punching well above its weight, compared to much wealthier sides, perhaps we have been a bit spoiled this season, we are near the bottom of the wages list for the EPL, yet still sitting pretty regards our league position.
We are fortunate to have Wilder engineering a terrific and miserly defence, with a cracking midfield, by EPL standards.
Either the current strike team will develop with more experience at this level, or we could be forced to pay massive transfer fees and break our wage ceiling.
Personally, I can’t see the latter happening, and I would prefer to keep adding competition for the spine of the team, and trust the recruitment team to unearth another gem in the striker department.
In recent seasons we have been cautious with spending on top championship material. Most of those have now grown into EPL players.
Buying more from the same source just extends the gestation period for new strikers. We can still pay big money for potential, as opposed to proven strikers, or we can be a bit more patient with the potential that we can afford.
Moose, McBurnie, Maupay, Watkins, Bowen etc all fit into that group with potential, and while their price will reflect that, our league and European potential is an attractive option for them.

My mum used to say patience is a virtue. Spike Milligan said, patience is for dull buggers who couldn’t think quick enough. Take your pick. 🤷‍♂️😂🤷‍♂️😂

If the ball isn't sent over to a striker what can he do. We need more play into their area. We had plenty of chances of an early cross but didn't take them.

But we still won. UTB

Been saying all season that Billy should be one of the first names on the team sheet every week.

He'd be in double figures now if he'd had more starts.

Moose let me down a bit today...but he's not really had much of a run in the team, and I think sometimes its a run of games that a player needs.
For me McBurnie is our 4th choice, I'd like to see Sharp, McGoldrick and Moose play ahead of him.
Wow, that's some statement.

I'd play pace against Norwich, I don't see them changing their style against us so it will leave space in behind. Mousset looks a completely different player to a few months ago but whether he needs a kick up the arse or an arm around the shoulder I really don't know.

Last night first half the front 2 were pretty anonymous, McG came deep a bit but it didn't really work, Mousset was just going through the motions. We looked tonnes better with Sharp and McBurnie up top. McBurnie wasn't great, a couple of stray passes after some initial good play will get the haters todgers solid.

We seem a bit bereft of options for me if Mousset doesn't pull his finger out, Sharp and McBurnie aren't a combo that I'd be worried about if I were an opposition defender as they are solid but unspectacular at PL level, I mean that in the nicest possible way. McGoldrick needs some match fitness and he might get back to early season form. Zivkovic seems to be a wild card who will never trouble the PL squad.

It’s time for Sharp n Didz to be unleashed on the world once again.

Zero evidence to suggest they aren’t our best combo at this stage. Tore the Championship a new one last season.

Price tags clearly influencing and clouding the gaffers judgement 😉.

McGoldrick needs to get back up to speed
Oli needs to focus on playing for us
Mousse needs to put 100% in
Billy needs to lose 10 years!

I don't think his judgement is clouded, I just think he's been playing the best available strikers. The goal for McGoldrick will hopefully give him the conundrum of McG v McB.

Based on overall performances this season and contribution to how we play as a team it's McG for me, that said we've had McB and Sharp in for the last few league games and are in good form so I'm not sure Wilder will change it.

We still need pace as an option and I really do think if we target Norwich's defence then they'll give us goals, Wilder gets paid to make these calls and on the whole does quite well at them so I'll leave it with him.

Would we have more goals by now / points in the bag had Sharp had more pitch time ??

Is Didz his best foil ?

Does Didz also (partially and as best as possible given other striking duties) fill the void that was Mark Duffy ??

All the questions. None of the answers !!!

I think Wilder has done pretty well in his selection this year, horses for courses and all that (obvious Donkey tap in for you if you want it?!). Games like Man Utd when Mousset was on form we used him well. Overall Sharp might have been on the end of a few more but I don't think we create them in the first place without the other strikers on the pitch.

McG is the best linking forward we have and yes he does the Duffy role as well, but he's the worst goalscorer (this season), Mousset has pace, Sharp has a knack for being in the right place, McBurnie does the ugly stuff well and has scored a few as well. If you could combine these traits in 2 strikers we'd be fine, but it would cost a lot.

I love Billy and my sentimentality clouds my opinion on whether he should play (yes he should), however the best combination this season has been McG and Mousset IMO.

Talent yes. Poor tonight... yes. Why do we think he’s exempt from someone asking why his control and reactions were so poor?
Moose has strengths and is exceptional on the break but his first touch particularly with passes hit at pace with his back to goal is shite at times.
He needs a few lessons from Billy or Didsy in this respect.

If Mousset can't get his fucking brain in order then our strikeforce suddenly looks extremely limited.

McGoldrick and Sharp is possibly still our best front two and that shouldn't be the case after spending about £40m.

Add in our general struggles to create chances and how we're having to shoehorn Berge in to the team to bed him in and I can see us having a flat end to the season.

First touch wasn't great but also in spite of our neat passing in the first half we didn't get a decent ball into him. But the OP isn't asking why he wasn't great last night. The OP is another "serious concern" thread like the ones he starts all the time and he's saying that we essentially need to do away with our current forward options.

Mousset is a cracking player and he'll do well for us. The team is in an unbelievable position right now. Panicking about the strikers is just silly.

Ravel Morrison. What a fantastic talent.

This is going to be another one of those things where I ask you to express a point that's actually germane to what I posted and then I get waffle followed by crickets, isn't it?

It’s not ideal that Billy is still getting us out of the shit but anyone who thinks £20m is big money for a PL striker is very out of touch.

Is £4m for a quality PL CB out of touch ?

£2m for a CM ?

£600k for a striker ???

Entirely missing the point.
