According to Ollie McBurnie, there's no animosity between the strikers at the club, and it sounds like, as a group, they are encouraging of eachother. McBurnie's interactions with Mousset certainly seemed to support that too, the pair seem to be forming some kind of understanding together.

That's great too, as McBurnie (in my opinion) is increasingly showing signs that he will be a success for the club, and is beginning to justify his price-tag in terms of both performances, and goals. You can see him starting games more often in the second half of the season.

So the question is - are those two players a viable partnership long term? I'd say our most effective and dangerous partnership has been McGoldrick and Mousset, but with McGoldrick's age, how long can that last?

For the rest of the season, you could see it being McGoldrick with one of Mousset or McBurnie, depending on the opposition, and Mousset's fitness, but what happens beyond that remains to be seen.

I know we want a replacement (or should I say heir?) for McGoldrick, but does that player even exist? If so, what would they cost?
Would it potentially be easier for McBurnie and Mousset to play, and attempt to pick up the creative work McGoldrick does as a pair?

Clarke's exit is seemingly imminent, one would think Billy's influence/usefulness may not last beyond the season and McGoldrick won't last forever either: there will be strikers coming in over the next 18months. However, if £20m gets you McBurnie or Wesley, and double that gets you Haller or Joelinton, it doesn't seem reasonable to expect that any new recruits will walk into the team.

So when McGoldrick's influence on the pitch inevitably wanes, what will our striking partnership be? I think there's hope for a McBurnie/Mousset combination.

For me that was McBurnies most impressive game, I thought he ran around and chased a lot in the first half without much reward but second half he seemed to take a step back and play with his intelligence rather than his emotion and looked a proper player, we might might not see the best of him consistently this season, but I think we have a real player on our hands.

They looked very good as a pair the link up play when Mcburnie steps over and leaves it for Mousset chance was incredible play.

I believe we may have be expecting Mcburnie to play a different style to his size and stature but he comes and links play very well rather than a target man.

I do think Didzy needs a mental break for a game and would be happy with those 2 starting up front.
As the OP states Clarke will leave Billy time is coming and Didzy coming to an end over next year or so. But I can see us trying to bring another top striker in, in the summer.

it’s a slow process of turning over the players that we are carrying from league one and would almost say carrying championship players. I believe in the summer a number are out of contract which should allow us to bring in even morequality.
