Stick with what we have

I reckon we need to retain team spirit.

We can always buy new players in January.

There aren't many out there better than we have at minute.
A good manager is always looking for players to improve the squad and am sure that is what our Chris is doing.

I expect us to sign two or three more players in the next 11 days

Sorry, but no. We need to strengthen.

We have beaten Barnsley and previously Brentford both one nil whilst hanging on somewhat at the end of each game, also Barnsley were awful and Brentford are currently bottom (albeit in what I think is a false position)

Do we want to scrap and scrape to finish 18th or aim higher?

If it's the later then we need to bring players in.

hanging on today?

It's all about striking the balance between the right players and the right now players. I don't know how we'd cope if we lost Fleck. If we lost Coutts we'd be in trouble. With Stearman out we're already low on cover at the back (definitely will be if Brayford leaves).

What I don't want to see is a repeat of something like "We're desperate for a combative midfielder, let's pay over the odds and put all our hopes in Dean Hammond". We've been down that path before and it's always gone badly, paying over the odds for players who hold the club back and ultimately damage us far more than they benefit.

I want us to sign some quality, but I don't want to see us piss money up the wall again just because every other side is spending big.

hanging on today?

Somewhat yes. Not as much as against Brentford, but we found it difficult to get forward that last 15 minutes today.

With that extra couple of options of pace we would be an awesome counter attacking side in situations like today as we can break play up really well, however we had no outlet.

If your not moving forward we will be left behind. We need a few players now and a few more in January.

Ideally we want to start building a proper championship squad with good young players like Brentford who bring in Watkins with an eye on the future.

But for this you have to have even more money and without proper investment we could end up like a Preston who just survive each year and never really progress.

Many of us said this before today, but you're absolutely right... even if Barnsley were absolutely terrible
This response I find the most surprising of all actually, because it's obvious to me that Swiss is quite a smart guy.

I understand the sentiment but if we're wrong we are stuck with what we have got until January.
I don't think it's worth the risk. CH CF and perhaps Box to box midfielder for me .
But there's a caveat with that they must be better than what we've got , no numbers game , like I feel Lundstrum is .

Stick with what we have got = relegation.

I don't disagree that we need to strengthen and evolve, but do you really believe the above?

If so, I think you are way wide of the mark. Certainly the current team won't be troubling the play off spots anytime soon, but if you think that is a relegation side you need some new 'objectivity glasses'.

I'm not that smart, but thank you. Just say things as I see them

I personally don't think that much needs to change however I do think that we need time to adapt and find the best way to play.

I think we've now got that way to play at home. Duffy and Brooks look decent in behind Sharp and probably Ched

But away from home we still need to find that right way to play.

2 wins from 2 at home is great, regardless of the opposition

2 defeats away can be much improved and in reality whilst we were poor at both Boro and cardiff we should have had a draw...

I think there is so much more to come from this current bunch of players

Jake Wright looks to have found his level

I said at the start of the season with the squad we have we will be in a relegation fight with about another 5 or 6 sides.
On what I have seen so far nothing has changed my mind.
Yesterday did nothing to dispel my fears.
Barnsley were poor and easily the worst side we have played, I will be amazed if there are many worse sides than them especially up front where they were toothless, but we still struggled especially second half.
We are totally dependent on Billys goals. I said again at the start of the season Billy will do well to get 10-15 goals this season, again nothing so far has changed that.
None of our other Strikers look like they would get 10-15 between them.
If we can't score goals I'm afraid that spells relegation, also if Billy was to get injured then we really would be done far.
Yesterday highlighted we desperately need a striker and a winger with some pace.
If we go with what we have then I do fear for us, we might get away with it but it will be a struggle.

Now you're mentioning 'fight' that's quite a bit different to your earlier comment of
'Existing squad = relegation'

We may get dragged down into the bottom third and I never thought we could finish above halfway. I am certain though that there are at least 3 teams worse than us and we will NOT be relegated.

I would have really liked to take either fleck or coutts off with about 15 to go, to add some energy and tackling to the midfield. Looking at our bench we dont have that kind of player.

Like Lundstram?

Of course we need more signings. Wilder wants 4 so it's safe to assume we need at least one, isn't it?

Barnsley are a bottom 6 side at best, and ultimately it was only a tight win - should have been more comfortable but wasn't. So that can't be used to suggest we're already good enough.

All four games so far have shown our limitations. Cardiff in particular highlighted how we're lacking physically.

As it stands we're bottom 6-8 in terms of quality, and due to our lack of depth we'd do well to finish above 18th with what we've got. Too close for comfort. If we don't strengthen, or if we only strengthen a bit, then we'll be walking a very fine line. We have to aim higher than 18th.
The current team would have to play well pretty much every week to stay clear of trouble. That's a big ask.

We blatantly need another striker.

We now have no spare centre halves, so we definitely need one now, as we did anyway.

We could really do with a quick wide player, certainly if the striker we (should) sign can't play there.

Then we lack an athletic ball winning midfielder - but I don't think it's a necessity to sign one at this stage.
For me Lundstram was an unnecessary signing which will make it harder to bring in another midfielder, and Wilder has to live by that decision and go with what he's got for now. We have the right numbers there, especially with Whiteman in mind after January.

  • 1 pacey tall box to box middy - we are lacking in the height in the centre.

Brad Potts would've been a good option for that role. He looked good yesterday. Strong all game I thought. Only about 500k too. I'd say it would've been more sensible to spend that on him than Lundstram.

Maybe I should have put = Relagtion fight,
Put it down to alcohol.
You might be right there might be 3 teams worse than us, Barnsley (although are they really that bad, didn't they beat Forest) Millwall and Bolton spring to mind.
But I would feel a bit more confident with a few additions especially upfront.
