Stevens long term replacement

Have you actually seen him play? 🤣
He’s nothing like competition for Enda. He couldn’t perform that LWB role the way we need it performing. Hence why Enda hasn’t yet missed a minute despite his poor form.

If you think Robinson is up to it but Schlupp wouldn’t be I question your sanity.

So what if he’s Liverpool’s youngest debutant? What’s that got to do with anything?
Take it you didn’t go to Millwall? Or the cup games? Stepped in seamlessly. If I was you, I’d give the crack a rest if you honestly believe what you’ve written here.

Playing against Millwall and Reading, as in the championship clubs?
I went to both dude. He played 10 minutes at the back end of the game against Millwall, and played LCB against Reading 🤣

You really believe Robinson is good enough competition for Enda next season?
Dear me, he isn’t even good enough competition for him this season 😂

Planning for the future isn't a crime no. But given that will be endas spot for a long time yet, and that we have good cover in the form of Osborn I can't see finding a long term replacement high on the priority list.
I fancy Osborn to be Fleck’s cover/competition next year and covering 2 positions with one player is dangerous. Plus Ozzy is a central midfielder not a wing back, as good as he has done there when called upon.

Signing long term replacements for ageing players shouldn’t be frowned upon, it’s what big clubs do.

Jay Da Silva ( Bristol City ) good young player & played in similar system to ours . More than competent defender & good pushing on , think he’s had his injuries this season .
And for right hand side competition for Baldock ..Marty Cash at Forest

I like Da Silva. A lot.

Cash is a toughie, he’ll cost a lot and can we really be spending big on 2 wing backs?

You think you become Liverpool’s youngest ever debutant if you’re shit at football? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Osborn was signed to cover multiple positions. As is often the case with new teams we can't afford to instantly have premier league competition across the pitch. That is built over time on a priority basis.

Excellent going forward, as you’d expect for a winger, but can’t defend for toffee mate.

Why would we even prioritise both wing backs when money is being cut back, and the only cause for concern, despite a top ten finish, is up front?

Can’t believe the negative reaction of some of our fans....no loyalty to our players. Stevens was great pre lock down.

Basically no one can be judged on these lock down matches.
The training, preparation, in game experience is so different to “normal” matchday.....agree that we should always think about the future and look to improve.

Nobody said he’s shit?
But I can’t see many saying he’s ample competition for Enda either.
He’s a clear step down to the other defenders we have.

Justin Hoyte made a few appearances for Arsenal in the Prem. Whats your point?
Just because players play for a big club in their younger years doesn’t mean they carry on that level of development. There’s plenty of examples. 🤣

‘Long term’

Of course it will be hard, no one said it would be easy did they?
But we need competition there now so if we can afford it why not invest in Stevens long term replacement rather than getting someone there purely incase he gets injured?
What’s with the confrontational tone? I was never implying anyone said that.

I’m sure the management team will have names they’re looking at, my point was there’s nobody obvious to me we could be going for currently. Not many outstanding young players for that position with a realistic price tag for us.

Aaron Hickey - 18yo Scottish LB at Hearts in the SPL. Played 24 games and shone this season, both footed and plays across RB/RCB/LCB positions too. He’s been courted by Chelsea, City, Bayern et al

If Berge continues to kick on this season we could be a very attractive proposition to young players for gaining 1st team EPL football, and he would get game time in rotation with our back 5
or Rico Henry in the event of Brentford failing in promotion

Confrontational? 😂

I’m sure they will, and no doubt it won’t be easy. They’re few and far between, so if the right man pops up this window do we not take it just because Enda might have 2 years left in him at this top 10 level in that role?

When opportunity knocks you have to grasp it for me. For example if Jamal Lewis is available for a decent price we should strike now, because if we wait for the end of next season and Norwich are coming back up it’s too late then...

We need a certain type of player. We can’t have a bog standard full back, it just wouldn’t work. They have to be able to attack as well as they defend, be athletic, quick, positionally aware and good with the ball in tight spaces, and of course be able to cross. There aren’t many about like that.

Like you say maybe it’s RND but I don’t know I’ve only seen him a few times.

He was signed as Stevens cover, Freeman was Flecks.
But Osborn has shown what he can do in his proper position, I can’t see Freeman staying, so we will need either a LCM or a LWB. Why not plan for the future whether it’s a priority or not? Much thought we didn’t need a centre midfielder when we signed Berge but the opportunity arose and we had to take it. This would be the same situation if the right player is available.

Temporary blip in form or one bad game and you’re no good any more. It’s just his turn. It’ll soon be someone else.
Read the OP. Don’t encourage the racist please.

He is (Robinson) Enda’s direct replacement. I’ll say again. Who bar a clown, would prioritise replacing our wing backs when our only concern is not scoring enough goals?

Why in that case has he played a grand total of 10 minutes in that role? And about 6 games at LCB (where he was signed for)
Osborn is Enda’s replacement. But due to circumstance had to play LCM because Fleck and Freeman were both injured...

You don’t think we signed both Osborn and Freeman to compete with Fleck surely? 🤣

In an ideal world we could plan for the future in every position. Signing your example of Lewis would dent the budget in an area we were not desperate to improve on or have backup for.

Matty Cash & Antonee Robinson (Wigan) would be my choices to push our wing backs, but I don't think the budget is there for it.

If we can't get Henderson back on loan then I think most of our budget will go on a first choice goalkeeper (£20m).

The remaining funds will probably go on

  • a right-footed, low-cost Jack Robinson type to cover Baldock & Basham.
  • another experienced operator to cover John Egan (if Jagielka's time is up).
  • someone to replace John Lundstram at RCM (John Swift - £5m ish).
  • a striker that can stretch defences (given Mousset doesn't seem able to switch his head on enough).

Total outlay, £40m(ish) offset by sales (£10-20m) of 2-3 of L Freeman, J Lundstram, C Robinson.

I agree, but if we miss the boat on Lewis can we guarantee we find a player of that ilk when we do desperately need them?
I see this like I saw the Berge transfer - do we need him? No not desperately. Is it a long term clever investment? I’d say so.

Good LWB’s don’t come about too often, you’re basically wanting an athletic full back who can defend and attack but is also positionally aware and aggressive. They need every one of those attributes or they won’t be suitable for us.

I struggle to think of names, and same goes on the right hand side too.

I think he’ll spend quite big on the defence after the debacle of Man United and generally speaking without JOC.
We are always one long term injury from a totally derailed season, I don’t feel like that in the midfield and forward areas.

I think he’s put some building blocks in place with extending the contracts of McGoldrick, Sharp and Norwood, and the signing of Foderingham, to mean we have some depth we know can definitely hack it in the Premier League (minus WF) in some capacity which is already here.

We could sign Jeff Hendrick to replace Lundstram for absolutely nothing and we’ve been linked with him before.

I’d like Karlan Grant to be our 5th forward (not 5th choice) if we’re looking at signings from the championship. Abroad? No idea.

But I think we will have enough budget to bolster the defensive ranks and I expect us to. The Post-lockdown defensive breakdown might’ve been a blessing in disguise.

If we miss the boat on Lewis? What world do you reside in? Wilder has already said funds are limited for next season and your talking about Lewis? Defence and midfield are not a problem for us. Scoring goals is the only problem we have right now.

We need to create more chances if we want to score more goals. Most of our chances are created by our Stevens and Baldock. And often they’re wasteful.
Wing backs are an important cog in our attacking unit. They’re not just ‘defenders’

Go figure...
