Ludicrous interpretation of what was a clear post.

I was making two separate points - 1. we shouldn't be going for a striker like Davies and 2. £200k is not a substantial bid, contrary to what the Board claimed - it might be more than Davies is worth but it's not a substantial bid.
I agree with what you;re saying fella but it could be argued, in defence of the club, that they meant £200K is a substantial bid for Steve Davis which I think is true. So whilst I'm too unsure why Clough would want him, I think the club's position stands scrutiny.

In the end the worry is, though many would argue it's Clough's target, he's clearly doing that wit his budget in mind. So whilst the club keep saying they are trying to sign the players Clough wants, it's clear that Clough wants the players that fit a very limited budget.

I know it's unfair to quickly wiki a player and judge him...
I know he's been in the championship and I've heard he's had a bad injury too, but...
He doesn't score much- that shit always worries me when they're a number 9

The fact that Davies is down the pecking order in a woeful Blackpool team - 0 points in 5 games - hardly inspires confidence.

Clearly Clough is hampered by our tight-fisted, unambitious Board - but his taste in strikers is a little worrying.

If the club only value him at £200k max, this is as good as an admission that he isn't a very good player. I'm not sure of his contractual status i.e. Is it coming to an end? Good players tend to be worth more than £200k unless they've fallen out with their club or their contract is up in 6 months.

He would be another on a growing list of underwhelming recent signings.

It is if he's only worth £100k.

Another on a growing list of players who have yet to recover from serious injury problems or who have fitness worries. We are still waiting on Wallace to play a full game, Higdon and McEvely have been thrown into games with no pre season training and numerous other players such as Flynn and Scoogall have played while not fully fit or when carrying knocks. I don't know what the hell the players have been doing over the summer but there should be no excuses for unfit players at this stage of the season. Adding to that list and paying money to do so is at best a gamble or just plain folly. Put it all together and it cries out that we are once again doing it on the cheap because the transfer kitty is tiny not that we are being sensible with substantial funds.

If it is true that we were/are after him then I'm lost for words.

I appreciate that the "20 goal a season" striker may be out of reach given where we are currently. So that aside we at least need someone with some pace. This alone would give defenders something to think about and should open up space for others.

Mr Clough, I do feel that you have the potential to be one of the best managers we've had for 20 odd years, but I thought I should tell you that that you are allowed to look for players other than at Derby and ones that you have managed previously. If this is the boundaries of our scouting then what exactly does Simon get paid for?

Ok I'm not in the "game" but surely if you've been in it as long as Nigel and Simon you have more contacts.

Still think everything will be ok, but, as I say, bit concerned if the reports are true.

At least now we know what our board nd manager consider to be a substantial bid .and it failed so I guess 200k is our absolute ceiling

Astonishing how much nonsense one can get into so few words, isn't it?

If we could get him fit then we would have a decent player on the books. But I'm fed of of us signing (or attempting to sign) players with lack of fitness or bad injury records.

Don't our physios have enough to deal with?

Are we also the place were Derby rejects end up? (Brayford doesn't count as he went for a big fee to Cardiff)

As far as I can see we have just two ex derby players in our squad.Which one of Davies or McEverley(or both) would you say are rejects and would have in the squad.?

Brayford freeman bennet and davies are all ex derby players

We didn't sign Bennett.

Brayford,Davies and Freeman all improved us last season as have Davies and McEveely this season. Not exactly poor players yet fans don't appear to want them as they are Derby 'rejects'. We only have two in the squad. Hardly concentrating on ex Derby players is it.

We have signed or tried to sign six ,all four In my posts are players we have tried and failed to sign who were at derby under clough

Given the risks with player ego, personality, team ethic etc, it makes sense all things being equal, to sign players of a known quantity. As Bartman says, the Derby players we've signed have improved us.

are they good players ? If so,the club they are at,or with previously, is irrelevant
Not saying Its a bad thing just that our scouting network seems very limited
Scotland blackpool and derby reserves
Which given the size of the bids we are putting in for players is understandable

Funny, Clough's Dad was of course known for raiding his previous clubs. Wherever he went, John McGovern and John O'Hare would soon follow.

Derby are in a higher league than us so I don't have any problem signing their ex players if they were any good, though I can live without Steven Davies as his injury record a even worse than Wallace's

Not sure how I feel about this player but his goal scoring record for Derby and Bristol City isn't the worst I've ever seen. I remember some Bristol City supporters telling me he was quite good but he seemed to lose his way after that.

Imagine if we had signed a teenager from Hartlepool (who were proper shit then ) who didn't kick a ball until he was 17 and made him captain. That player went on to captain 2 different clubs to win the league and one team to the European cup twice ,even then he never got capped for his country. The point is never judge a player until he has played a few games for your team ,for every John McGovern there is a Barry Hayles too.

An excellent post, although I would have said that for every John McGovern there are probably about 10 Barry Hayes and a couple of Luton Sheltons too.

It's about as inspiring as a situation where you find out that Katie Price is on your team for something like Eggheads

I'd quite like to get Katy Price settled on my love eggs...

People were peeved on here only last week when we didn't sign Hartlepool's striker. Hartlepool are in the league below us yet people are still peeved when we try to sign players from the league above.

We can't win.
