When was last time he hit a 147?
Might be ok if we had 22 balls on the pitch, other than that I have no opinion :)

Another ex Derby.

Not done too back with the ex Derby connections so far-Davies,Brayford and Freeman were all successes and McEverley has started well. I think 2 currently in the squad so not exactly an issue

I wonder what the media spin was on this? I know a six figure sum was mentioned but was this right because I wouldn't want us to get screwed or framed.

I've heard that if he comes we get a free ambulance with him. Just read his wikipedia page and the catalogue of injuries reads like an OTT script of casualty eg "Davies ...had six operations in his three years at Pride Park, following treatment for a fractured eye-socket and cheekbone, cruciate ligament damage in his knee, an ankle problem, a broken foot, hamstring, groin and hernia problems, and an infected big toe". No major injuries I could see since then - can play on the left if needed - did so for Tranmere.

Quite a number of breaks then.
Da dum

Perhaps a move to us will be his big break. Tssshhhhh.

Will he help us go up the Table though?

There are two possible explanations for this:

Either Clough has lost the plot a bit or there is almost no money.

Crocks with patchy histories are hardly the proven quality we need

At least now we know what our board nd manager consider to be a substantial bid .and it failed so I guess 200k is our absolute ceiling

His goals per start ratio is pretty good. 42 in 113.
But he seems to have spent an extraordinary amount of time on the bench at all his previous clubs. 97 Subs appearances.
Similar to Porter in that respect but hopefully better.

I'm not sure that this is proof of the ceiling - I rather suspect it may be to do with the club's evaluation of the player (along the lines of a tried and tested scientific formula of "deduct £100k for every hospital visit and £5k for every screw used to fasten the guys head back together - combined with a negative multiplier for advancing age :p) and that they may have dug under the cushions in the executive suite to find a few more shekels for Brayford.

Need a quick, strong, direct type of forward. V worrying NC can't see this. Even more worrying he want's to buy Porter and Higdon Mark 2….

Blackpool did not do well in the transfer window so I would be very surprised if they let Davies go given their dreadful start to the season. If they had secured a couple of forwards prior to the window closing then I would have thought they would want to offload the injury prone Davies. As it stands, they have little choice but to persevere with what they have.

Rumours are he is in the frame to play the lead in the footballing version of robocop - his bullet headers race to the goal off the steel plate and 22 screws in his head.

6 figure fee offered for Davies believed to be £200k

The article says the offer was made on the Monday which was TDD. If so, then why wait until the last minute to lodge an offer?

Why not a few days before? If then rebuffed, there might be an opportunity to move on to another target

Unbelievable. One, that Clough thinks this is the type of player we need and two, that our Board has the nerve to refer to £200k as a substantial bid, particularly given all the money that has come in.to the club. The debt may have been written off but we are still scraping the barrel and showing f**k all by way of ambition.

Wait a minute.... you're contradicting yourself here. On the one hand you're suggesting this player is shit, then on the other that he's worth considerably more than £200k. If we had signed him, a player that you think is not the type of player we need, for say ... £1M ... would this be a sign of our ambition?

I think what he's saying is, that in today's market £200,000 is not a 'substantial bid' which I have to agree with, also that Steve Davies would not appear to be of the kind of pedigree to be the catalyst behind our meteoric rise to the Premier League, which again, sadly I find difficult to argue with. :(

So we're all in agreement. You also think that Steve Davies is not worth signing, and that £200k would be a substantial amount for him. £100k would be closer to his actual value. Two hundred grand is pretty substantial with regards to him.

Where did Deano say that he was worth over £200k?

Ludicrous interpretation of what was a clear post.

I was making two separate points - 1. we shouldn't be going for a striker like Davies and 2. £200k is not a substantial bid, contrary to what the Board claimed - it might be more than Davies is worth but it's not a substantial bid.
