Steve Bruce

It was us Vs Sheffield in the interview. Think he’d been up celebrating the ODI win for England and when being interviewed was thinking why am I not there.

One question I wasn’t sure of - Was he ever in a derby when he played/managed Sheffield ? He said he was, I’m sure he did.

Taking the piss but they’ll be a different beast on Monday, to what we’ve seen in the last 3 derbies. He’s got experience of numerous same city derbies so will know how to brief the piggies for it.

Beyond Monday, he did sound like a bloke who’s had enough of it really and it’s all a bit of a hassle. Not necessarily being at the pigs, just another rebuilding job.

Maybe he’s got a bit of the man flu, I’ve not listened to any of his previous interviews.

Tbh Steve Bruce was a good appointment for them - probably the only good decision the tuna man has made. Yes he's old school but he's steadied the shower of shit the pigs were as they were quickly becoming a laughing stock.
Sorry but this isn't right, Lee Bullen the caretaker manager steadied the ship with
1-0 win v Preston
1-0 win v Middlesboro
1-1 d v WBA
1-1 d v B'rum (Wednesday did us more favours than I remember!)
0-3 defeat Hull
1-0 win Wigan
Then along came Bruce with his string of games v the lower placed teams.
If Wednesday had kept Bullen I would have been much more nervous about our game against them.

Worth a bump in time for the weekend...

RS "Do you realise you are only six points off the play-offs Steve"?

SB: "Wow, is that right? Six points? That means we're only three wins off sixth place doesn't it? How many points for a win again?

RS: - Were you ever in a Steel City Derby when you managed Sheffield United?

SB "Yes, er I think so. Maybe not. When was that again? Do games against Rotherham count?

RS "Chris Wilder is known as a master motivator and unorthadox tactician, who will look to exploit your weaknesses in midfield. While we don't know which team he will put out, it's likely the Blades will play an attacking formation and seek to put pressure on you in possession. How will you counter this?

SB "Er...anyone know what's going on in the cricket?"

RS "Are you worried that the SWFC fans don't seem too interested in this game, and have sold fewer than 30,000 tickets?"

SB "Hang on, I just need to check my online bank on my phone. Yep, my wages are in. Anyone fancy Burger King?"

Why does he still refer to us as "Sheffield" even though he has managed both clubs and is doing a press conference for Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United? Bizarre and disrespectful to both clubs imo

As I waited for my coffee on the way to work this morning, I noticed the Stir on the newspaper stand with Reach quoted as saying they'd love to stop our promotion challenge or something.

He's done as good a job as could be expected
He's tightened them up at the back first and concentrated on clean sheets and then they've gone on to score a few goals and get a couple of decent wins

I saw there team in one of his early games and thought it was a very good championship team got enough to.give anyone a game ,there troubles been that most of these players haven't seemed arsed about playing but now it looks like they are playing for their places

Similar to when Howard Kendal joined us, although I doubt Bruce will get the team playing with the flair the Utd team did moving forward.

See that today the press have reported that he was diagnosed with melanoma in 2017. Throw in the loss of both parents and he's had a rough trot.

His Caribbean trip and wanting some family time is understandable.

He's not a mug as much as some are portraying.

As their owner has made his fortune in a business that pays by the tonne, he thinks he’s getting a cracking deal with Bruce.

Bruce has always come across as a decent enough bloke and his record as a manager is as good as they come at this level. But he has had his hits and his misses over the years and I have never been impressed with his side's style of football.

I was in a conversation with a few of that lot at work last week about how we play under Wilder compared to what they can expect. Words such as 'solid' and 'attritional' were about as good as it got for them where as we were described [begrudgingly I might add] as 'exciting', 'interesting', 'attacking', 'good to watch'....

Will he get them up? Under normal circumstances, eventually the answer could be yes. But with the FFP problems they have and with that lunatic owner, I sincerely have my doubts. Either way Bruce can't lose; if he is hampered by FFP he will have 'done his best in difficult circumstances' and it's 2 million quid in the back pocket one way or another.

What I don't quite get is what the rabbit out of the hat is going to be on FFP or P&S.

They have overspent and they totally neglected the January window to address this.

The 1867 thing will fall miles short.

The accounts have been delayed but must be delivered prior to the window opening again.

So what changes their lot? Or will it be some revised rules? After all, there will be controversy if Birmingham make the play offs then they deduct them points, but by the same token, if you are having FFP, then how can a team spending 202% of their turnover be allowed to prosper if you are looking for a level playing field?

If there is a way around the rules, you can guarantee that they will find it. At which point Chanser will be a genius in their eyes, where as previously he was incompetent and shamelessly ripping them off. And of course any other clubs who cheat will be lambasted.

It's going to be an interesting few weeks re the Birmingham situation, and a few months re the Pigs.

I have a friend who keeps sending me articles from the Guardian. Invariably a load of bollocks, particularly when it comes to sport. Actually when we played Dull in the FA Semi I though Bruce changed it around well at half time so I think this article is usual Guardian rubbish. Frankly when you look at the Wendy squad, what it cost and what their wage bill is any half decent manager should have them in the play off spots at least so I don’t think what SB has done is rocket science.
