Stephen Bettis | Sheffield United CEO Interview

I'll pop back later when someone who can bear to listen to him has summarised his business speak
Business man talks in business speak. Unbelievable. Rather he talked nonsense like any of us in a pub?

Seems hotel is waiting for us to pay for it to go forward. Training pitches should be sorted for winter with a bit of juggling until then with youth sides.

No NEED to sell is good but obviously if any big bids come in we are pretty powerless.

Very good interview from a very good CEO IMO

The talk about him been a snake I don't really get can someone point to me as to why he is a snake ?
I've never understood that either. Probably summat to do with Lord Wilder pissing off and some folk being unable to accept Chris left on his own accord.

People call him a snake & then when you ask why they have no answer.....'he didn't back Wilder'. I'm not sure he's the person to back Wilder!!

Is he a snake because he stayed when Wilder left? Presume Hecky is too if that's the case

If Wilder wasn't backed, then what was he? Spent more money than any manager in our history (probably than all of them combined truth be told).

Bettis isn't looking for mates. He answered the questions asked of him and answered them well. In my opinion.

You do know that Bettis doesn't own the club right , having a go at Bettis is like me going into the local morrisons and shouting at someone on the tills because the price of a loaf of bread has gone up

Spent all this seasons money too and nexts

There are no blank cheques...
If players move on and allow players to come in.....
Money will be spent on bringing players in during this window....
Stevens, RND and Maxe Lowe....we don't need three players in this position.....
Sander Berge, parachute money means we don't have to sell..but if the club valuation is met then decisions will be made....

A couple will leave for sure.... Berge being one of them if the right money comes in. One of the three full backs looks set to leave as well, Maxe Lowe being the one subject to interest for obvious reasons. However Slav sanctioned the loan and Hecky hasn't had a proper look at him...Stevens is hit and miss and I wouldn't lose too much sleep if he moved on personally.

If Hecky wants to move quickly in the market like he says, then the money has to be available early. If we depend on players leaving the club, then we are going to have to move late in the market again which never ends well for us.

It seems the club are keen to utilise the PL loan market again, I'm not totally against rhis option either.

I've never understood that either. Probably summat to do with Lord Wilder pissing off and some folk being unable to accept Chris left on his own accord.

Probably the association with him talking whenever bad news is confirmed. That and him being more prominent when everything went to pot (albeit beyond his control).

That and he's not local and sounds calm in the face of someone who feels upset probably won't blend well.

Fwiw I think he always seems to talk (apart from being visibly uncomfortable in one interview, well but he can't ever say what people want as that isn't a reality.

I can only assume you have quoted the wrong person? Having a go?!

One thing I do worry about what he's said is trying to get another premier league loan. I think that market will change dramatically as the prem can use 5 subs now.

You're probably right it will affect that but I wouldn't say it will affect it hugely

I agree.
He answered each question clearly, so that we are now aware of the issues and solutions. He cannot be expected to identify the exact budget nor the players they have approached.
My take is that money will be spent on players coming in, loans will be agreed and the whole attack on the Championship will be better coordinated.

But they still only have the same size premier league squad.
Players loaned out are usually not deemed good enough for their first team squad, five mins here or there as a sub may make a difference but the players we are looking at will want first team minutes on a regular basis.

I was hoping he'd be asked about the logic of moving season ticket holders and giving Forest the upper tier in the Play Off semi. Has there been any official explaination from the club?
It was an interview about the future not one aspect of the past.

...but their squads will be the same size I think.

The fact that he echoes Heckingbottom on the importance of pre-season is promising. I'd imagine they'll look to do business early if they can to fill out the thin areas of the squad (probably the permanent moves) and try and see if they can take advantage of any premier league players made available for loan later in the window

  • There is no instruction to sell anyone at the moment.
  • If an offer comes in higher than our valuation then it will be considered and put to Paul.
  • Several board meetings held with Hecky, and everyone is aligned on the positions we need to strengthen.
  • Looking to good players on loan as we had success with that.
  • Max Lowe - up to the manager no pressure from the board to sell any of the left backs. Offer turned down offer in Jan.
  • 2 or 3 positions have specific individuals identified and offers have been made to a number of players.
  • Again, all aligned to make moves early.
  • Training pitches had £6-700,000 spent on them 2 seasons ago. Not resolved the issues specifically with drainage.
  • Number of contractors involved, final stages of agreement on costs and it already has board approval to proceed.
  • Won’t be ready for pre-season but only an issue in Winter. Paul is happy with alternate pitches until the new ones are ready.
  • Training facilities not a huge issue for him, pitches is the big problem which is being sorted. Offices and gym already done.
  • Hotel - A frustration to him. No point opening during Covid and some cladding work needs to be done. First team and training facilities are the priority then probably hotel. It is seen as a something which will generate income for the club.
  • Club is being run on a sensible budget and to be self sustaining. Money will be spent this window.
  • No pressure to sell any players same as last season.
