Step up Luke Faxon

I was half joking when I said this.

But in all seriousness, having thought on it, if Faxon ISN'T deemed better than Davies now then what's the point? He's 20.

He cannot do any worse. And he'd have the added bonus of the crowd being on his side.

If or when sorry Davies makes his first mistake on Saturday the murmurs of discontent will make him even more nervous than he looks day to day. It'll be very uncomfortable.

Is the free agent window still open?

If it is, and Cooper is out for a period of time, then we seriously need to scrape under every single barrel available and get someone in, even if only on a short term deal.

The only one I can find with a half decent track record is Fraser Forster - who has been incredibly suspect in the last few years, but if he's kept himself fit he'll be 10 times the keeper Davies is.

We can't go into QPR, and more importantly the derby with Davies in net, we simply can't.

he did look a bit rabbit in headlights a few times but agree backup keeper we have never invested in properly.

We’re likely to try and manage Cooper through the next game with the upcoming international break, but that could end up being a disaster if it affects his performance or aggravates the injury enough to keep him out for longer. If he’s considered too injured to play, then just start Faxon. I’d probably start him regardless and give Cooper the added time to recover.

As far as I know Faxon is injured

Maybe I was pissed but I’m sure I remember Vinnie Jones going in the net during a pre match warmup and trying to save penalties with his head. 🤪

I kind of agree. We can't do any worse than Davies, and if we're not going to use Faxon now then I don't see when his opportunity is going to come.

The only thing I worry about is him chucking the ball in his own net a la George Long, and the experience basically wrecking his confidence. But if he's good enough, he's old enough and all that...

Davies was absolutely pathetic in what I hope is his annual appearance for us and no more.

Couldn't do a lot about the first goal which is the fault of Tanganga and McCallum going for the same ball, leaving us a man short to defend the second ball but his attempt at getting to the corner for their second was embarrassing. Grbic would have dealt with it better which is saying something.

If Faxon is any good then him being a bona-fide number two to Cooper is the way to go. If Cooper leaves at some point then we need someone who can step up and not look out of place. Whoever we get in the cup third round, stick Faxon in and see how he gets on, its essentially a shot to nothing.

Getting to 20 and not having played any senior mens football is no good for him or anybody else. He's contracted until 2028 so unless we want another Jake Eastwood buggering about putting the cones out and making cups of tea, he might as well be on the bench ready to step in or be out on loan somewhere learning his trade.

Plenty of keepers seem to pass through our doors without getting anywhere close to the first team and its about time we either had a good one or gave some of them a chance to prove themselves.

Listening to CWs presser Davo is starting tomorrow. 😞
