Not sure i like the shape our squad is taking. Technically gifted young players shipped out in favour of journeyman cloggers.
What?

Outs since Jan 1st:
McNulty - prefers lollipops and the company of his NED mates to knuckling down and making the most of his talent
Alcock - 28 year old third choice right back
Freeman - young, technically gifted but with the concentration and positional sense of a one eyed goldfish
Dimaio - young, technically gifted but not taken his chance
Khan - ditto
Higdon - not young, all the technical gifts of a cement truck
Wallace - young, technically gifted but about as robust as the bog roll in the Kop khazis. Unsurprisingly out injured at the moment
Cockerline - will never make a first team appearance
Evans - see Cockerline

Dirty Bob and Scougs would be in my first eleven every week, given our current squad. They're two players that possess ability we sadly lack. Scougs has a good touch, a bit of pace and a mindset that encourages him to drive towards the box when he has the ball. With the possible exception of Adams, nobody else we have does this, and Adams' first touch is atrocious.

Harris gets forward well, is easily the best crosser of a ball we have and he gets stuck in. Yes, he's prone to an error or two, but which of our much maligned defence isn't? Having a full back who offers an attacking threat would, to some extent, negate the complete lack of threat we pose down the wings by playing four central midfielders. Giving him and Brayford freedom to get forward was a key part of Clough's successful first season.

Taking nothing away from McEveley, who has been decent lately, he doesn't have the pace, stamina or crossing ability that Harris has, and is equally as error prone defensively.

Agree to a point but disagree that's the case with Scougall. Clough's system last season was set up to help him flourish and he was wank all season with a pitiful return of goals/assists.

Did anyone play well last season? It was such a struggle. Scougall had a few injuries and Clough almost completely neglecting the height/strength issue didn't help. If Scougs is going to play there must be other players that compensates for his weaknesses. In a well balanced team I see no reason why he shouldn't regain the form he showed in his first season here.

Our record with and without Scougall starting this season:

Those stats tell us absolutely nothing about Scougall's contribution this season.

He's played 10 league games, and had a positive impact in one of them as far as I can tell. Game by game:

Gillingham (a) lost 4-0 - came on with 20 mins to go, when we were already getting hammered. Looked like a boy amongst men.

Chesterfield (h) won 2-0 - played wide. Went off after 69 mins. The consensus was he was our poorest player, though played out of position

Peterborough (a) won 3-1 - went off after 19 mins injured

Colchester (h) - lost 3-2 - came on after 84 mins

Burton (a) - drew 0-0 - came on after 62 mins. Took some poor corners and did little else of note

Rochdale (h) - won 3-2 - went off at half time as we reorganised. Indifferent performance

Oldham (a) - drew 1-1. His best performance. Laid on Done's goal with a clever pass (his only league goal or assist of the season). Missed a simple chance late on

Crewe (a) Lost 1-0. came on after 79 minutes

Walsall (a) drew 1-1 - came on after 72 mins. Didn't do much

Coventry (h) won 1-0 : came on after 55 mins and got kicked in the air a lot.

So that's 10 games, of which only 2 lasted more than an hour, and only one other lasted a half. He has one assist and no goals. He has played well once.

I see no case for a first team place for him.

Deja vu! ;)

He offers some attributes that we are crying out for, has done well before at this level and shouldn't be at an age where he's past his best. Why wouldn't he be able to recapture the form he showed in his first season if we got the balance right? In my opinion he's not adapted very well to a wide midfield role, shouldn't be a part of a central midfield duo and unlike some I don't think "no 10" is his best role either. His best position is as one of two box to box midfielders in a 4-5-1 (4-3-3) formation.

In terms of statistics and a player's effect on the team I would include cup starts, but wouldn't take too much from sub appearances. Obviously, looking at the team's overall balance is more important than isolated stats.

Its a sign of how far we have fallen, that we think about Scougall as one who could make a difference.

Fact is, your summary shows how shit he has been this season, his body can`t take the demands of pro football, and when he does get on, he very rarely, if never makes any difference.

Adkins can only go on what he`s seen this season, which is fuck all.

Think Scougs would work in a 5 man midfield of:

----------------------Long

-------Beard -------- Edgar---------Jay Mc-------

----------------Hammond

Coutts -----------------Bash------------------- Done

---------------------Scougs

----------------Adams---------Sharp

These are current players obviously

Adkins is yet to see him in his best role in a well balanced team, maybe apart from the Notts County 5-1 win.

i like scougall & cant understand why we are playing him he was brilliant in the 18 months he was here & even this season in the few cameos he had he probably the only midfielder along with baxter who willing to make a attacking runs in to the box & support the strikers

he's done as much as baxter and more than woolford, hammond and sammon then..what worries me is that Adkins is shipping all of the young kids out and bringing in old journeymen mates. ok they might not have been good enough but they never had a go.. they can't be any worse than the three loanees i listed
edit: sorry IOM i just repeated what you'd already said :D

Where do you get that conclusion from ,he's already stated more than once that he is creating a pathway for young players to come through, and also said he's looking for young hungry players to sign.I think you need to review your conclusions again !!.or are you like a number of blades who want us to go chasing another new manager which starts this crazy process all over again. GET REAL!!.

'Scougs' is not or never will be the answer. His contribution last season was diabolical. Something like 1 goal and 1 assist over the course of the season? He played in most games when fit as well. He runs around a lot, looks lost a lot, gets injured a lot, gets knocked around a lot and doesn't do a lot else. Cannot see the obsession some blades have with him. Ship him out.

i don't advocate a new manager actually although i find some of Adkins decisions a little puzzling.. dimaio scored already i see

Where does he get that conclusion from....where do you think....who signed Hammond, Sammon and Woolford ? If you think they are the answer you are sadly mistaken !

Another one who should have his phone taken off him until he learns to use it properly.
According to a friend who was chatting with an unnamed United director, the reason he didn't go anywhere in the transfer window was because on the last day his phone wasn't turned on and nobody could get hold of him. So it would appear that he really is incapable of using it properly.

I seem to remember a rumour on here that Everton were lining up a £4m bid for the wee man and that we should resist. I presume that was bollocks? If not we're laughing.

I though he was decent under clough.
Not played enough under Adkins to judge him this season.

But, but, he favourites peoples comments on Twitter when they say nice things about him. He therefore must be a really good player. Same as McNulty & Kennedy.

Pompey still after him

Whether the Baxter farce will stop this who knows, but he's way down the pecking order now.

I think if he was going to have any sort of chance of getting back in here then it would have been at the weekend. Putting Cuvelier on the bench ahead of him, despite him having been injured for the whole season, shows to me that Scougall is finished here under Adkins, barring a miraculous turn around.

we had Chengdu blades now with portsmouth we have South Coast Blades, more sheffield united players in the team than we will if we get 2 more loans in

I was a VIP guest on Saturday, we were in dressing room & Scougall & Collins came out of treatment room, I asked a so called Blades legend stood with me what was up with Scougs, a recurring injury problem was the reply.
