Why thank you! 'Perceptive' is one of the nicer adjectives that have been ascribed to my many musings
I should point out at this stage that my comment probably came across as being more acerbic than intended. In no way do I intend to denigrate Derek Dooley, who was by every account a thoroughly decent man, and of course served us well in his role at United.
But being a nice bloke who was on the clubs board for a bit doesn't warrant being immortalised in bronze. It's a slap in the face to the many figures in the clubs past who have served us in a far more tangible way.
The Dooley statue is clearly a concession to a man who is a prominent figure in the city of Sheffield itself, having being connected with the other lot.
But when it comes to putting up statues of people in the Bramall Lane car park I have no interest in those who represent "the city", I want to see somebody who represented Sheffield United exclusively. We already have a road named after him, a statue in our car park is inappropriate as far as I'm concerned.
I won't reel off a list of the great players or managers who should take its place as I don't want the thread to turn into a debate over their respective merits, and besides which, any one of them would be a preferable option.
So to summarise. I'm a "down".[
