I see it this way, £12 for 2 hours of entertainment from 2 live bands that would easily outweigh a game of football, entertainment wise. Or, £18 or 1.5 hours of drab football. I know what I see more value in. For me, the only real value is an early bird concession season ticket, which I have got. If I'd have not got the early bird, I'd not have bothered.
Edit: £18 would be for an adult. £14 for me but the point still stands.
I don't think you're comparing like with like. Live bands are indeed good entertainment (and who doesn't love a bit of prog rock, right?). But a band will practice their set over and over and deliver it (hopefully) perfectly every time. You know what you're going to get.
But we don't go to football primarily to be entertained. If we did, we could have 'em under the Trades Description Act. Entertainment is always a bonus. No, we go to the Lane because we want to / feel compelled to support the team. It's a completely different beast.
