I'll start the panic! Would they go for Wilder and if so would he take the chance to manage in the Premier League?

If I was them I would be looking at him.

If I was CW I would be wanting a lot of reassurances about the future of SUFC and the spending power available.

If we don’t spend we will end up in Barnsley’s position.

He will have seen Carloss and how successful he's been at Swansea , OMG HES OFF AINT HE :(

I don't think wilder would even consider an offer from them despite the saints being his 1st club. They've sold their best players and not replaced them. I get the feeling that they're in a similar situation to wet sham!. Sell the fans a fairytale but don't back it up with funds. A few clubs have done that including the massive over at S6. UTB

We’re safe because the January transfer window has been and gone. :)

Ye I don't think people need to worry about Chris going off anytime soon :-

Firstly say Southampton doubled or even quadrupled his wages, Wilder has no guarantee of his job security beyond 2-3 months after joining them. Realistically he has a job here for at least 2 years bare minimum no matter how our league form goes this season and next, it would take a horrendous season for the fans to chant him out. He has the love and loyalty of our supporters and he's wise enough to know that he'd need a better opportunity than Saints to leave that all behind.

Say he got sacked 6 months after joining Southampton (even the best are regularly fired at that level) - where does he go next, on the merry go round like Gary Monk and co. and just scraping by on 6 month stints from one season to the next?! Nah he'll be a legend of our club and keep his project going - UTB

But if we do spend we could end up in Wendies position.

Wilder will walk either way.

After the flack he has been getting for playing Ched on Saturday he realises that the fans have lost faith in him.

Or did McCabe force him to play Ched ?

Cant see it as in 10yrs theyve hired 2 English managers 1 was alan pardew the other Nigel Adkins

There's very little chance that a club in their situation would go for a manager with no premiership experience, if it failed, the fans would be apoplectic!

I also think Wilder might look at it and not want a potential relegation on his CV for his first Premier League post, it would scupper future moves.

more than likely to pick up one of the ball breakers to try and motivate them out of the relegation zone, Hughes would be my guess.

“The fans” which ones are they then, cause nobody I know has lost faith...

The ones that don’t go ?... that would be my guess..

Can't imagine any relegation threatened Prem League team would take a stab on a currently mid table champ manager. His lower league successes mean nothing to the big League. Once they were relegated, possibly, but most would opt for a 'proven' cliche man on a rolling contract. Swansea aside that is.

As for the question of would he go - my opinion based on no substance, absolutely. He's hungry and ambitious and for him to step up, he needs more competitive backing. Nothing suggests United will or can give him that.

Southampton would be insane to look past.

1. Mark Hughes
2. Marcos Silva

Swansea wanted Carlos for a long time, it wasn't on a whim

Southampton will be looking for somebody like Pulis who's done this exact job before.

No idea who it'll be but no way is Wilder giving up his current leverage for a 2 month punt in the Prem.

Now in the summer, especially if they go down (taking out my obvious bias) it would be a very interesting career move for him

I think Silva might be waiting for Everton in the summer and Hughes would want ££££. Not sure they'll want to commit past the end of this season

How many times do we have to speculate on this, especially given that 9/10 PL clubs will not appoint a British manager, even ones who have done well in the PL like Howe and Dyche, who would have gone ages ago if this was football in the 90's when clubs were British owned.

This again.......Wilder has less than 1% chance of managing in the PL unless it’s with us.

If clubs don’t show any interest in Sean Dyche or Eddie Howe, then
What chance would Wilder have who has ZERO experience managing at the top level
Never worked amongst top players on big salaries, with big egos and many of them foreign.
He was even a gamble for us (a league 1 club) bringing in Wilder so would be a massive gamble for a PL club,
PL clubs have millions, so have the finances to keep their gambles to a minimum.

They’ll go for either the tried and tested old names (Pullis, Pardew, Hughes, Moyes).
a sexy world famous name or popular and famous former player
or the latest trend is unknown foreign coaches that their advisors know (Calvahal, Garcia, Pelegríno).
Fortunately for us, Wilder is none of these.

Then there's Redknapp and Curbishley.

I think the man with the well heeled dog that doesn't pay tax, had a go before and took them down.

More chance of Lord Lucan than Curbishley. He really has dropped off the radar*

Wilder will be 'Chris Who' even with their own fans. Hughes to the end of the season nailed on for me.

*Nautical type term to keep the old seadogs interested.

The real question here is.....Should we consider chasing Adkins when Wilder goes to Southampton!??................................fuck off! He ain't going nowhere!
