Watching images from someone’s phone on the John St last night, I was amazed how immense a full Bramall Lane looks from there. The “normal” TV view is from the gantry on the South Stand, so all you see is the JSS and bits of the kop and BL end. A full South Stand, Kop and Westfield Corner looked incredible – the stadium looked huge, on par with Hillsborough or a big PL stadium but more modern and atmospheric.

Given that we’re going to be on TV a lot more next season I’d love to see the TV cameras shifted to the JSS – a new press box could be created by getting rid of a couple of executive boxes in the middle. Then the existing press box that overhangs the South Stand could be turned into a small seating area similar to the Olympic Gallery at the old Wembley Stadium. Granted it would not run the full length of the stand but It would definitely make the South Stand a unique-looking stand

This is how the Olympic Gallery used to look:

You couldn't have seating in the existing press box. It's a long old slog up there (I've done it) and not particularly customer friendly!

You not realise how much money we'd lose in "getting rid of a couple of executive boxes" when putting the cameras there would generate jack shit

I've always thought the cameras would be better positioned in John Street stand too. I guess it is logistically better to have it in the South Stand however.

So have I, many years ago you need to be fit. It's almost like going up a ladder to get up there. A new staircase would need to be built.

True. Get rid of two exectutive boxes and you lose 40 outdoor seats, I think. They are revenue earners. But some of that could be clawed back from the Olympic gallery if executive "facilities" were provided. If you gutted it and got rid of all the press boxes reckon you could fit a couple of hundred seats up there

The main factor for me though is having the stadium look its absolute best on TV

the South Stand TV gantry is regarded as one of the best in the UK, plus John St has no parking for Sky TV trucks, navigating a TV truck along John St would be a nightmare these days with the traffic control measures and losing x30 executive boxes would probably be a loss of £500k, i'm sure the powers that be want MORE executive boxes not less.

With the digital technology that exists today I'm sure that Sky trucks could still be parked in the SS car park. You'd only need a couple of cameras on the JSS. If fiber optic cables needed to be run to the South Stand, that wouldn't be a huge technical challenge

I was talking about just getting rid of the middle two exec boxes on the JSS - and making the South Stand Olympic Gallery an "executive experience" (which includes getting rid of the ladder)

It's amazing what can be done with existing structures. Old Wembley Olympic gallery is an example, as is the upper tier on the South Stand at Hillsborough. Capacity at the Lane is fine for the Championship though
