Soumare, he makes me happy

Think there's a player there, but wouldn't want him permanently. Not sure he's suited to English football to be honest, but wouldn't surprise me if he carved out a decent career in Portugal.

Think that’s a fair price, plenty of potential to potentially unlock. He’s still young, wouldn’t be surprised to see him kick on next season after a year of exposure to English football. If we had the money available l would have been happy to see him as a replacement for Peck. He’s definitely a project and Wilder is after experience.

Looks like signing for Stoke

Reports of a £3.7m deal? 😮

Young player and came into a poor side with no experience of the league and English football on a seasons loan. He did ok at times, but was never likely to set the world alight given how lightweight we were for much of the season.

I think there is a player in there and with a couple of years in England, i think he'll do ok. He wasn't the player we needed last season to replace the likes of Souza, but i think if he gets to grips with the pace and physicality of the league, he should be at least be able to play consistently.

Not sure where he's got this from but I think he has potential. I wouldn't like us spending that much on him with little funds available but can definitely see him being a good long term project

I don’t think he’s Championship level.
Let’s see whether he proves me wrong at Stoke.

UTB.

Thought they'd taken it from here, but he wasn't 4th. Still not sure how the points were awarded🤷‍♂️ Supposedly he had a good a season as Seriki and 5 points more than Bamford!

He’s got the attributes and size to be an absolute beast at championship level.

Hes an absolute mile off the finish product though. We don’t have £4m to spend on him to then wait 2/3 seasons for him to (possibly) develop into that player.

I’d have been pretty chuffed if we’d been able to get him around the million mark.

Yeah I can't see anywhere where he was 4th. He barely played really

Didn't we agree something daft like 6m if we went up for a fee for him?

He might come good at stoke. They are starting their business early. Something we probably won't do.

I've always liked that twitter account's way of keeping track of our PoTY.
Each game they do a fan poll for MotM, 1st / 2nd / 3rd get points and it accumulates.
It avoids recency bias too, I think O'Hare should have ran away with it this season owing to how well he started.

As for Soumare. It's a really hard one to call. Such a raw player. A lot of interesting attributes but lacked positional discipline and always looked like a walking red card.
He has a high ceiling, but a pretty low floor too.
I don't know our budget so it's hard to say whether £3.7m is a worthwhile punt.
My gut says it's too much of a gamble at that price (if that money is all up front). At £2m, I'd have advocated a go at it.

The Bladesman account MOTM voting I’m guessing. Soumare was top for a while on account of being half decent when we were really shit.

What do you mean, develop? If we were to have bought him it would be with the purpose of him playing decent minutes in every game

Rather sign Soumare at this price than Phillips. Ones wages will be astronomical for little return, the others a young lad who’s just had his first season in england.
Not nearly injury prone enough for us sadly.
Like others have said - the fee paid looks very punchy for a project player who still needs to develop

Stoke must be using our scouting network, he’s enthusiastic enough, but he’s got a touch like Fred West and in his time with us I don’t remember him taking a sooting opportunity and not totally miskicking it?

He could potentially be a top championship midfielder.

He isn’t right now. Hes very very raw.

Hes got the natural ability, height and attributes to be really good. He needs to develop physically and in terms of experience in the English game.

By develop I mean we don’t want to spend £4m on someone who is not ready to have instant impact in hopefully one of the better teams in the league. He could do with a season out on loan / playing 20/30 mins at the end of games. Not starting high pressure games.

You must have been watching a different player to me. He was absolutely fine.

I think he was one of our better midfielders in some games and then pretty terrible in others but I was disappointed he disappeared without a trace towards the end of the season.

Typical young player inconsistency.

Some games he he moved the ball around well and used his lanky legs to break through lines.

Other games his second touch was a tackle and he was making rash decisions.

He wasn’t as polished as a more experienced player.

I would have liked us to keep him but as the parachute money has dried up, £4m seems a little rich to me. If he develops at the same rate as someone like Peck his physical attributes make his ceiling really high. Plenty of premier league midfielders in the tall unit type. Little like Onana at Villa.

Yep. That's fair. And they only get better at the level you want them to play at by, you guessed it, playing at that level. If someone has a bad game? Big deal. Far too many on here write someone off as shit forever after one game.
