Sorry Sander but I don’t mind if you leave

Maybe,
But it's funny how every player that is not a shouty, screamy type doesn't fit in here

He is a player who has his qualities going forward, he's never been a defender, he's never been a shouter or screamer, he isnt a leader.

He needs others to do that, and if nobody does it he's not going to play well.

If only he could have been part of a midfield with McCall and Brown
Berge has more class in his little toe than Monty and Booker , but they are folk hero’s

Not because of their ability or 'class' ,because of their desire and heart. You can have all the ability in the world ,thats no good if you dont show it.
Personally I dont think he has that much 'ability or class' anyway.

Now I wasn't there today, but remind me who we had in forward positions that he could make key passes to? It's all very well saying easy back pass, but that is better than just lumping a hopeful ball forward in the hope that our 847th choice striker gets on the end of it
he barely got within 50 yards of our strikers, one of whom is possibly the best player in the league (MGW played up front). Comparing his Middlesbrough performance to today is like comparing vinnie Jones to Billy Whitehouse as hard men.

He has the ability to be taking games by the scruff of the neck.

He keeps the ball terrifically well and tends to make the right pass at the right time. Often simple , sideways or behind. I suspect this is where fans frustrations start.

That said, I do wish some of our fans would understand the importance of ball retention.

UTB
He should be taking most games by the balls and saying this is mine and pulling our team along with him, I see him as a 6ft4 powder puff player who should be doing much better

A Glyn Hodges type of player. A great footballer but also bone idle on his day. If your a Sheffield United player, the least we expect is effort. When your on £20k to £30k a week WE FUCKING DEMAND effort. Been thinking about Bob Booker lately. Not the greatest footballer yes, but effort, commitment to the cause? Nobody near the bloke. This is what fucks me off with Sander. A joy to watch at times, great balance, can take a player on, so much natural ability. He thinks he should be playing with better players, I get that. But being half arsed will not help you in the long term or the team. It’s so frustrating.

He was hideous against Barnsley too. He's playing like he doesn't want to get injured and ruin his chances of an exit.
He's desperate to get out of the club, but seems happy going out of the back door.
To be honest, it's a little bit inexcusable.

Fuck me this thread is absolutely clapping us back to league one.

Hodges was a class above Berge. On an off day he was a nasty bastard, he'd leave his foot in, elbow some fucker etc. but he wouldn't hide. I like Berge when he's on his game to be honest, he can play when he fancies it but he has the heart the size of a pea. For a big lad his attitude and lack of aggression is fucking criminal.

I’d be amazed if a team higher than the championship were remotely interested in him now. I’ve been a huge critic but I don’t think he’s been terrible lately and at times he’s been very good. But he’s clearly not much more than a decent championship footballer.

Considering the money we paid, we’ve had our pants removed, with no hint of Vaseline.

He hangs around with Odegaard and Haaland but he’s nowhere near their level unfortunately.

Played far too safe today but wasn’t the worst player on the pitch.

I don't get how he is constantly being defended for poor performances as if it were the clubs fault or the fans fault in that we can't recognise class when we see it.

Based on the evidence we have so far he has played only a handful of games where he has played well and actually influenced the game.
And before you trot out that we prefer shouty players who just run about. Think about this how would you compare his influence on team performances in comparison to MGW. Or with the top players playing with any of the championship sides.

There is no doubt that he has skill but he does not demand the ball enough and plays only in spurts. He is not suited to English football because he is not athletic enough to cope with a faster game. Its alright saying he played Champions League with Genk and he is a Norway international. The Belgian league isn't that hot and getting international caps for a middling team isn't that much of an achievement.

We were apparently trying to buy John Swift but Reading were holding out for too much money.
Has Sander been any better in the Championship than Swift?

Agree. This is exactly the point I’m making. The same excuses get trotted out:

He’s out of position
He needs better players around him
Our fans can’t see quality
Our fans only like screaming shouty types
He’s been injured.

It just doesn’t wash. He’s got plenty of ability to thrive in that position, in this team, in this league, because in fits and starts he has shown it. But nowhere often enough.

He’s not the problem, but he could definitely be the solution.

Fkin idiots
Such a well thought out point.

If you disagree that’s fine. One of my best Blades mates does too.

But you’ll see most people
Gibbs-White is a quality player and looks like a quality player. In practically every game he plays he's our best player, it stands out a mile. He's definitely our most creative one.

Berge has had some good games in the last couple of months and we don't really need another thread where there are those of us who think he doesn't show nearly enough are met on the other side by those who think he's a genius.

He had been playing better but I haven't changed my opinion. My other team is in the lower reaches of the Spanish League. If by some quirk of fate he signed for them - not that they'd be daft enough to pay what we'd want - I would be distinctly nonplussed. Unless he sharpened up considerably he'd be left standing there just as he is here - and the crowd wouldn't be anything like as kind about it either.
exactly. The best players stand out regularly and look like they care. MGW does and Berge doesn’t.

He'll play at a high level in another European league. This country is too physical and high tempo for him. He needs too much time on the ball and the abity to amble around with another midfielder doing the dirty work for him. Has all the fight of a lemon.

He has got a very classy little toe to be fair

Monty is not the same type of player so it's a daft comparison, he was a battler and ball winner, made it very hard for the other team to play, so the opposition can't just walk through us like they seem to do regularly against the current side.

A more accurate comparison from that era would be Michael Tongue or Michael Brown who were both way way better than berge in terms of both ability and commitment

Can’t wait for next season once we’ve sent all the loans back and stripped the contracted talent from the squad and we can start again with a team of Michael Doyle’s

Playing like he has for us since he signed he'd never make in the Spanish League, for pretty much the same reasons he's not been doing it here.

I wonder which European League is best for him? Probably the one he came from.

I suspect, if he's played next to a Kante type, he'll get the freedom he needs. He just doesn't have a defensive side to his game.

I think he will go for around £5-£8m and we will take it to clear the wage bill down a bit

I think you know what I mean but are being pedantic

He was scoring goals in the Prem for Wilder after a slow start he started to become an unreal player, his injury derailed him.

Hecky just needs time with him and he needs to be fully fit.

Some of these posts are an embarrassment.

Berges play style looks he’s not trying, when it’s clicking for him and the team it looks like he’s a class above, gliding past players without making an effort.

When it isn’t clicking he looks like he can’t be bothered.

That’s his style.

Some of our fans also need to wake up to the intricacies of professional athleticism, and the impact of serious injuries players.

He’s also scored 3 in the past few games, how many has Norwood scored in multiple more? Or Fleck? Or Hourihane? Or Ndiaye?

Personally I believe he’s one of our better players but isn’t the type to carry a whole team, same as MGW. Yes he has off days, so does MGW and Sharp, and all the others who are seemingly immune to criticism because they don’t have an associated price tag that someone else has chosen to pay for them.

As a long term critic I’m surprised he’s been “singled out” at the moment. I remain disappointed with what we’ve got for our money, and I don’t think any of the endless excuses alter that fact he’s not going to be a top premier league player in England.

But that aside, he’s been much more effectual for us over recent times than previously, and there were far more poor performers yesterday.

I think someone will take a punt on him.
Circa £8-12m.
As you say, he's not done much at this level or the level above to justify his price tag. He's a low risk option for a PL club now, nothing more.
