Something unfair here....

Did I read that right. Even as a home team, we have to give 50% minus costs directly to the football league!!!

Is that a bloody joke! Also, why do Brentford and Swindon get a cut of our gate receipts!

Who negotiated that deal!! Jesus H Christ!

If united want to charge a tenner surely the league could do nowt about it.
Not getting a penny from me this year

But the play-offs are an invention entirely to make money (i.e. ponce extra cash off supporters). The basic unfairness is that the third best team in the division hasn't already taken their rightful place in Div 2. Why would anyone expect the distribution of money to be fair?

Entrance should be entirely free with the TV money shared amongst the participants.

My idea to make the play offs fairer are this;

the team that comes 3rd goes directly into the final.

the team that comes 6th is away to the team that comes 5th in a one off game. The winner of that game is away to the team that came 4th and then the winner of that game plays the team that came 3rd at Wembley.

This will never happen though as it means there are fewer games and fewer games means less tv money for the FL.

I'd do it a bit like they do in Aussie sports:

3 v 4, 3 at home - winner goes to final, loser to next round
5 v 6, 5 at home - winner to next round, loser out

loser of 3/4 game v winner of 5/6 game - winner to final, loser out.

I think this system handicaps teams perfectly, and places 3 to 6 actually mean something.

I've been discussing this with a few mates this week actually. We all agreed that it stinks. For the other 3 teams in the play offs, it is a boon for them having United in there. Just as it was last year, and when LUFC, NFFC and even SWFC in 2005 competed. United could generate 3 times the income of some of these teams in just one match, and yet we manage to keep fuck all.

We've now had the playoffs for 27 seasons, which is more than twice as long as we had a straight 3 up 3 down between the top 3 leagues - that was only between 1974 and 1986 inclusive.

id do the play offs like this:

team who finished 3rd gets automatic promotion
teams who finished 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th have a play off to decide who gets all the other teams best players for nowt.

that sounds ridiculous.

if it were me, id sell tickets for £500 each (so nobody buys one) but have an offer where if you buy a programme for £10 you get a free voucher for the game!

if yeovil sell the full 6000 at £15 its still only matches the tv rights money of 90 k for the game
and its divided up , its lunacy

So does the gate money they get from us count towards their turnover for FFP purposes?

As above - I'd change the play-off system so the team that finishes 3rd has more of an advantage. We finished 9 points ahead of Huddersfield, but started as equals at Wembley.

Not sure we started as equals at Wem, at Wem.. at W... that shit hole

BTW - Proper Avar lad - proper :D

When is income profit , if we still have the same overheads , but have to divvy up and give away the gate money surely it detracts from our profitability .
